Mountain Stream Budo
Mountain Stream Budo is a unique martial arts school specializing in karate, kobudo, jujitsu, and iaido. You have the option of training in any of these arts, or expanding your martial arts knowledge by enjoying several, or even all four of them. We are the only martial arts school in Westchester and Putnam Counties that offers these four distinct arts under one roof.

This art consists of throwing, rolling, joint locking, choking and defense against armed and unarmed attackers. Okinawa (Matayoshi) kobudo is a martial art that consists entirely of traditional Okinawan weapons. If it is necessary to cancel classes due to inclement weather, we will place an announcement on www.cancellations.com.

Jujitsu (literally translated as "the science of softness") is a traditional Japanese throwing and grappling art. It is the predecessor of modern judo and aikido. This program focuses on throwing, joint and bone locking, choking, controls, and self defense against armed and unarmed attackers. Classes generally consist of a brief warm-up, followed by break-falls, rolls, body movement drills, and rank curriculum.
This 2 -hour private or semi-private workshop is geared toward individuals with no prior martial arts background, and who don't have the time or desire to commit to a long-term training regimen. It will consist of an overview of self defense theory and concepts, and will include many basic techniques, focusing primarily on releases and controls, as well as pressure points.
If you arrive to class late, bow onto the mat and assume seiza position until a sensei acknowledges you and invites you into the class. Kobudo students should either bring their weapons into the dressing room or lay them horizontally on the mat against the wall and out of everyone's way; do not lean your weapons against the wall or against anything in the observation deck area of the dojo.
These days there are many different types of martial arts schools to choose from. Some are more like gyms than traditional dojos. Others are "belt factories" where you earn rank simply by showing up and paying the required amount of money. I have been studying and training with the senseis at Mountain Stream Budo for about 25 years.
