Fat Tire Farm
Since 1985, Fat Tire Farm has been THE mountain bike shop in Portland, Oregon. Yes, we've got a large inventory of the best mountain bikes and service parts, but what makes the Farm special is the crew working here. Every last one of us is crazy about mountain biking. Every day we want to share with you the stoke we get from riding trails. That goes into every brake we bleed, shock we rebuild, and every bike, tire, handlebar or anything else we sell.
Services
Gravel riding offers a bit of roll-your-own style, but these types of races and rides favor light weight over bump absorption, so most opt to leave the suspension at home. This is where the new Santa Cruz Reserve 22 wheels really shine. Reserve wheels are built on the highest quality carbon rims on the market.
Reliability meets simplicity-running smoothly day-in and day-out. The 350 hub was developed according to the credo: Reliability meets simplicity. The simultaneous engagement of the ratchets and the resulting large engagement area provide reliability. The plugged construction allows easy maintenance without the need for tools.
Power up to trail riding's next level and dominate any and all trail monsters-the Turbo Kenevo Super Light melds the legendary handling and all-around big trail prowess of the Enduro with our Super Light electric support to deliver indomitable capability, light weight, and power to conquer more and bigger trails.
The Wheels Mfg BB30 Outboard bottom bracket will give you all of the same benefits as their other Outboard style BBs. The two machined aluminum cups thread together ensuring the bottom bracket remains stable in the frame, increasing bearing life, and simplifying maintenance. This means no more creaking, smoother operation, longer bearing life, and really quick bearing replacement.
Durable, high-performance riding shorts purpose-built for wet weather conditions. The Resist short borrows styling cues from TLD's popular Moto short but ups the ante in its protection from the elements to create the ultimate water RESISTant shorts on the market. Teflon EcoElite nylon/spandex fabric construction offers 10k breathability/20k permeability water resistance, so water stays out but sweat can escape.

I ordered a frame from FTF back in February of 2021 in the height of Pandemic supply chain cluster****ery. Chris at FTF patiently put up with my constant pestering of "Is it here yet? Is it here yet?". The delay in getting it was purely due to factors outside FTF's control. But last week the day finally came. NEW BIKE DAY!
A clean shop with knowledgeable people that care a lot about mountain biking. If their parts cost is higher than internet sellers, keep in mind you're paying for their knowledge and experience. If you're asking questions from qualified experts, don't expect the same price as

They sell nice bikes and may be good for full-service treatment, but not the place if you want to buy some parts to do things yourself. If you have any DIY in you, don't expect quality advice and expect strong up-selling for their service. Last time they wouldn't lend a simple screwdriver to install brake pads they sold me. I want to love them and re-try every couple of years.

I bought a mtn bike in the 4-5k range. Not a high end bike, but not a Huffy either. Staff was fairly helpful, but a bit condescending at times. What I wasn’t told until I got to the counter to pay, was that they ding you $200.00 to build the bike. If I had known, I would have either bought it online or better yet, just had them sell me the bike unassembled. A frame up build is not that tough. I have built up full suspension bikes before.

Very cool people here. I came in for a tune-up with my beater bike. They explained that their charge would likely exceed my bike's value, but they sent me to another bike shop, and those guys fixed me up for free. I'll be back when I can afford a better bike.

They have a good stock for being during quarantine. This is unfortunate because they have some of the worst customer service I’ve seen. I have gone in twice looking for advice on their inventory, stating I was looking to buy a bike. The response I get is almost annoyance that they have to help me. They are annoyed to bring any bikes out, which is difficult because they won’t allow anyone in their store to see the stock. I would like to buy from a local place, but I would expect better customer service for a $3k+ purchase

Helpful and friendly. I am a total newb at this thing and went in with nothing but questions on Friday 3/26/2021. Based on what I want to do, my size and what is in my budget, they were short on inventory but that didn't stop them from spending time and humbly explaining everything. I've been to other places where it seems they only want expert customers but not this place. A truly great and welcoming customer experience. I highly recommend FTF for your cycling needs.

I got into mountain biking after a really long time. Bought a used bike and am having it serviced here. Kurt has been really helpful and has been very patient about my queries and concerns. Definitely a great experience so far. Pretty confident about their ability to service well and build if someone needs those services!

Very good experience with buying a Status 140 here, they said that deliveries of status orders were going quickly, so we expected a month or so, but I got it in 2 weeks. It can set up perfectly, and I am very happy with it. Good job Chris!

We stopped by randomly on a Sunday and they were pretty busy (pre-COVID), but wow they are SO. ATTENTIVE.
My bf was looking into a mountain bike and wasn't very versed in all the other brand bikes. The dude that helped us was so friendly, made sure to answer all our questions, and overall so awesome!
We went to another shop prior to this stop, and decided to get a bike here because they were too amazing.
I recommend them to all my friends and definitely would come back for all my bike needs!

Super cool shop. Huge selection of mountain bikes and a wicked awesome and knowledgeable staff. I came down from Seattle to check this shop out and I’m glad I did. They also have a huge selection of components on hand. I’ll definitely be making the drive back to this shop.

Great shop and very friendly and helpful guys working there. They noticed my rear shock on my new Enduro didn't sound right so they took the bike back and swapped it out on the spot.and had me hitting the trails within half an hour. I wish we could have entered the store but was off limits due to Covid-19. We had to window shop 😁

Best MTB shop in Portland. This is the only place I trust to work on my ride. Super honest mechanics who never oversell you on anything. They go out of their way to give you a range of options and services - all to get you back on the trail as safely and quickly as possible. These guys treat your bike like a pediatrician cares for their little patients. Calm. Encouraging. Everything's gonna be alright. I bet they'd even give your bike a sucker after a checkup. There's zero bro vibe and everyone makes you feel like the only customer in the world. They keep extensive records of the

I walked into Fat Tire Farm yesterday with the hopes of getting my first mountain bike. I was greeted at the door by a bunch of friendly dudes. I ended up being helped primarily by Jason who spent hours explaining everything to me (I'm a total rookie) I test rode a few and ended up with the bike of my dreams. Jason fine tuned and customized everything on the bike for me and was super thorough. I was laughing and having fun the whole time I was in there and the entire crew they've got working at Fat Tire Farm is awesome. I would recommend this spot to anyone, and people of all riding abilities

Just purchased my first mountain bike and Patrick was extremely friendly and personable. He asked what I wanted to use it for, budget, etc. and found the perfect bike for me. He then spent time picking the right components and special ordered the bike I wanted without just trying to sell me the most expensive bike. Bike shops can be a bit intimidating, especially when jumping into a new style of cycling and the experience here was tip top! After I made the purchase I was even more stoked when they told me they would custom fit the bike to me, offer a complimentary 30 day tune up, and all minor

Awesome group of guys. Always willing to help me out anyway they can when I'm in need.

Met a lot of them through riding and racing, Patrick is an amazing dude and knows more about bikes than most. Would recommend talking him or to anyone when you stop by the shop.

They do a ton for the bike community as well, they put on some fantastic races during the summer. Would and do recommend to a lot of friends. By far the best shop in Portland

These guys know there stuff and got me into a bike that was right for me. There was no pressure or attempt to upsell me during the process. In fact, during the final inspection they noticed that the rear shock didn’t feel right ( I’m certain I would NOT have noticed), so they installed a new one before letting me take delivery of the bike.
Local, good, knowledgeable service matters...and these guys have it.

It will be a day before i can afford a sweet bike from these guys but they have lots of other great accoutrements to outfit my bike and body. Purchased a Troy Lee Designs helmet from them the other day and on… my first test ride, i barely noticed it was there. So comfortable. They carry a wide range of helmets with good variety of style, price, and color. I have a large head with tons of hair and need to kiss a lot of frogs when it comes to making helmet purchases. Lots of kind and helpful sales dudes. Sometimes you have to feel good about purchasing yourself the best in the business and
