We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you and your family and respect the trust that you have given us regarding your health care. It is our goal to provide comprehensive quality care to our patients in a professional manner. All the doctors at SAMC are trained and Board Certified in Family Medicine.

Our specialty is directed to diagnosing and treating a broad range of medical problems, focusing on holistic prevention, and the integration that family and community play in our health and in our illnesses. The goals of SAMC are to help you keep yourself healthy, and to be available if you do become ill.
Services
A group of physicians trained and Board Certified in Family Medicine, who take their time to listen and explain concerns and treatment options.

Services covered at SAMC include preventative medicine (immunizations, physicals, ), urgent care on the same day (including minor trauma such as broken bones, lacerations) gynecology; dermatology; pediatrics (from 5-days old); geriatric medicine, orthopedics, dermatology (including skin cancer surgery) and general internal medicine.X-rays are available on site.
Henry Dittert, MD founded South Austin Medical Clinic 51 years ago. There were five physcians at the time and the office was located at 2222 Western Trails Blvd. In 2002 the clinic made the transition to electronic medical records (EMR). By 2004 there were six physicians practicing at SAMC. In the summer of 2005 the office was remodeled.
SAMC draws labs for our patients only. We cannot draw labs ordered by another doctor. If it is requested you fast prior to having blood drawn, please do not eat or drink anything other than water for 12 hours prior to being seen. I understand the clinic normally uses CPL.

If I or my insurance company prefers another lab, it is my responsibility to inform a medical staff member before the specimen is being taken so I am not billed for having lab work processed by CPL, instead of another preferred lab.We draw blood in our office as staffing permits. There is charge for phlebotomy and specimen processing.
All the doctors at SAMC are trained and Board Certified in Family Medicine. Our specialty is directed to diagnosing and treating a broad range of medical problems, focusing on holistic prevention, and the integration that family and community play in our health and in our illnesses.

Dr. Weidmann graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, College of Engineering and then earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1985.He joined SAMC in 1989 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice. He is recognized as a "hands on leader" in the application of technology and data systems to patient care and medical practice.
We are very sensitive to the cost of medical care. We strive to contain costs where we can by keeping your health, avoiding costly Emergency Room visits, using generic medication when possible, and limiting expensive testing and referrals to when we feel it is truly necessary. You will receive another handout on office policies and procedures for your signature.

I like this clinic. Dr Canon is knowledgeable and gives good insight into what test results mean, and the role one has in maintaining their health.

These folks can't be bothered to answer their phone and they damn sure won't call you back. Looking for a professional medical group? Don't look here.

Low rating due to 2 factors:

1- Doctors: I have seen 4 different doctors at SAMC over a few years as I could not stick with one because of scheduling - one can not predict illness to make appointments way in advance, no?- None seemed to care (except one doc) beyond just giving you something to treat symptoms, no through examination, in and out in 5 mins... instead of taking the time to understand the patient or ordering some tests to investigate before simply slapping a "web doctor" diagnosis based on verbal complaint from the patient.

2- Staff: bordering on rude while making appointments

I don't understand all the negative reviews here. I've been going to SAMC with Dr. Canon as my primary since I moved here in 2013. I've received nothing but courteous and professional treatment from him and his colleagues. Yes the staff is overwhelmed but the staff and doctors respond same day if you use the patient portal system. The phlebotomists (blood drawers) are great - I've fainted in the past from having my blood drawn at other places but here they are very efficient.

Terrible service. I'm no expert about how other medical professionals operate but this can't be near the standards of operation

Got an appointment? Wait and hour plus after before getting in. Have a question or need to schedule and appointment ? Get a rude/short answer from Erica or maybe she'll just tell you to just go somewhere else.

Dr Martin has good bedside manners but this lady who just gave me a test seemed like I was ruining her day by merely existing and wasting her time. Oh and she had no finesse, care, or caution while ramming a cue tip up my nose.

Front desk staff is rude. Doctors aren't any better. Went there because I thought it was LGBTQ inclusive and the doctor ended up just being rude and cutting me off before addressing my issues. Attempted to change doctors to fit my new insurance and there was a woman doctor in the office I was excited about seeing but I was unable to make one of the old visits I called they said no big deal and moved on about my day. Never told me that would be considered a "no show". Fast forward to my appointment today that I missed due to me attempting to pass a kidney stone and if you have ever

Horrible customer customer. They will bill you for services you didn't receive. Dr. Ian Alward is also a doctor I would recommend staying away from based on my experience because he doesn't care enough to provide adequate care.

My family has been going here almost 20 years. The practice has gone DOWN. Look at the reviews the past two years, this isn't one dissatisfied client. On my last visit, I watched a front desk staffer be dismissive to an older man who was struggling with English. I was so sick I could barely stand, and my treatment wasn't much better. You may have heard great things, I used to recommend this place--but I suggest you look elsewhere for quality medical care. Dr. Servin, you were terrible, but you had a framed card in your office suggesting that clients leave a YELP review. Done.

Never thought that I would ever have to write this but after having a terrible experience at a time where doctors should be as helpful and accommodating as possible here I am, I wasn't feeling well and I called to get tested for COVID-19, I was told that in order to get tested I would first have to schedule a telemed appointment so I did and after 5 minutes with doctor alward he said I had COVID-19, never tested me or was he going to test me. I made another appointment at an urgent care and immediately was tested for Covid, flu and strep. Don't waste your time or co pay, they won&apos

My husband went in for an annual physical and at the end of the visit the doctor asked if he had any questions. So my husband mentioned about his sleeping problems and diarrhea. They then charged him for an office visit. Their reason being it wasn't related to the annual physical. My husband didn't even mention those concerns until the doctor asked. Very fishy. The way they conduct business is very untrustworthy and unreliable.

Dr. Rie is the best. Great bedside manner, knowledgeable, determined, and takes his time to answer every single question- silly or not. Doesn't make you feel bad or stupid.

Dr. Cannon is not that way... I went in for urgent care, and he made me feel bad for asking follow-up questions and just put his hands up and said look I'm telling you what I think, didn't even fully answer my questions, and I did not feel comfortable. I sent him a message on the portal asking if he saw X and he just told me to make an appointment with my regular doctor... He's the one that examined me

This "Doctor" is one that is more concerned with CYA. Her medical documentation of doctor/patient conversations fails to match the actual conversations that take place. My daughter was medication poisoned and this doctors lack of experience and beside manner is not only immature, it is down right disappointing.

Dr. Easterling has no respect for her fellow woman or what she is going through. Horrible experience. Incredibly aloof, doesn't seem to care. I have been a patient here for years, but I had such a bad experience with her, I am beginning to shop other clinics.

The front desk staff are very hit or miss. Some will treat you professionally, but most will sigh out loud, make faces or be short with you on the phone ensuring that you are well aware that your question or scheduling conflict is inconveniencing them.

Almost all of the nurses I've met here have been professional and pleasant

To whom it may concern:
I scheduled an appointment on March 28, 2019 at the South Austin Medical Clinic, PA.
Dr. Micheal Rie was rude, insensitive, and unprofessional.
He entered the room and let me know that I had in fact had strep throat. He sat at the computer, not once looking at me, and he asked if I ever had strep throat before. I answered, then proceeded to express my concern with my immune system because I had been getting sick lately. Still not looking at me, he replied, "I simply do not have time to answer that. I can prescribe something for what you came in for today. You can

Good luck getting Dr. Todd Canon , or his clinic, to refer you to s specialist if you need a referral for your insurance. Furthermore, the office manager is unprofessional and insensitive. I would give them a negative rating if I could. I was me with an avoidable scar at his hands instead of referring me to a qualified dermatologist. Despite calling to let his clinic know that I was not healed 1 month out - despite his prognosis that I would heal in 3 days- Dr. Canon did not return calls to follow up, nor did he or his office express medical concern.

Dr. Rie is my family doctor for three years. He has provided excellent care. He always takes time to listen to me. When I came to him I was suffering from a lung disorder. His knowledge and expertise enabled me
to return to a high quality of life; I can breath!!! His nurse is also very friendly and helpful. When I call, Dr. Rie or his nurse always returns my call. The front office staff are professional. However, I had to give South Austin Medical 4 stars only because every time I get put on hold, I am there longer than 10 min and sometimes no one ever picks back up. I will say that they always

I, my husband and my 5 year old just recently switched to dr. Easterling as our primary care manager. We LOVE her! She's nonjudgmental, friendly, considerate, kind and overall, a gem of a doctor! We are very happy to have finally found a doctor the whole family loves.
Dr. Easterling's nurse is friendly and great too, and so is the clinic's staff. There was virtually no waiting time and the front staff is polite and helpful.

Without a doubt, THE worst. I called today, requesting an appointment for a pulled back muscle. I was told the soonest that I could be seen is July 16th - SEVEN DAYS FROM NOW!
After being a patient for literally DECADES, I will be forced to find another doctor.
I asked if they had anyone they could refer me to - I received a call from Cassandra, the medical assistant for Dr. Cannon... her message said I would need to make an appointment with my primary care physician.
Thanks for nothing, Cassandra!
