As a teenager, Shante would watch her grandmother in the kitchen and become fascinated by her abilities to make delicious food from scratch. Many nights Shante would sneak and experiment in the kitchen while her grandmother was sleep. Through those sleepless nights, Shante developed her love for baking.
She started developing recipes and using her family for tastings. It wasn't until her studies at UMBC that Shante gained her entrepreneurial spirit. One day her classmates encouraged her to bake for a holiday party, and when they tasted her baked goods, they started offering to purchase them. It was then Shante knew she had something good, and SophistiCakes was born.

All inquiries will be returned by email or phone within 72 hours of submission. Please Note: To ensure the availability of your date, we recommend that all orders be placed as soon as possible. At a minimum, we require a two weeks notice for most orders. At times, we may able to accommodate last-minute requests; however, an additional fee will apply for those orders.

What a shame, have been a customer since I can’t remember. Birthdays, special occasions, holidays and now 6 days lead time is no longer adequate for someone who has always trumpeted the quality, service and enjoyment of their baking and products. I guess all things change and loyalty is just a thing of the past. I knew that there was great demand for their cakes, etc but it’s not like I’m calling Friday for Sunday. Oh well onto my search for a new place for cakes and baked goods ❗️Zero Stars ❗️❗️I wanted to give ZERO STARS but the site wouldn’t allow it ❗️

Cathy and her team at Sophisticakes consistently deliver deliciousness in everything me/my family have ordered from them. Their customer service is wonderful and they're always willing to do what they can to meet demands. My most recent order was for a baby shower and they helped me determine the size of the order based on the headcount. I ordered a 12" double layer round cake that was chocolate chip with a buttercream frosting and 25 cupcakes of varying flavors. They were able to customize the cake decoration to match the shower invite AND added matching fondant stars to the cupcakes to bring

Goodness! I must say I was not ready for the overall deliciousness that is Sophisticakes. We ordered because they were a local bakery that could do the number cakes we wanted specifically for our dad’s 75th birthday party. The cakes were soooooooo good. Everyone raved on how good it tasted. The design was amazing. Customer service was top notch. Can’t wait for the next excuse to visit for another masterpiece.

I rarely get the opportunity to enjoy the immaculate confections this business has to offer. When ever I stop here I'm greeted with a brownie and a smile.

The specialty cakes that I ordered from this bakery were spectacular. I traveled from Carolina just to get these cakes from this bakery. They were recommended by my daughter. Not only did they look fantastic, they also tasted delicious. I would definitely recommend this bakery to anyone looking for quality. The staff were friendly and always professional. My guests could not get enough. I will most definitely order from here again. And yes, the drive from the Carolinas was worth every mile!

I don't even eat cake (because I drink beer) but I thought a review worthy from this weekend's 16th birthday festivities at my house. Over the course of the weekend, two of these SophistiCakes cakes came through our house and the supposedly were fantastic in taste but I was just in awe of the artistic aspects . . . obviously there is a lot of dedication coming out of this bakery and I would recommend it based on my own review of the aesthetics everyone else's review on the taste . . . No wonder it is so well known in the area. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic local bakery - Sophisticakes has become my go-to whenever I need a special cake. They've beautifully designed all the ideas I've thrown their way, have fair prices and are easy to work with. Plus, the cake is delicious--always a hit! The pound cake they specialize in is wonderfully moist and the buttercream is rich, without being too sweet. I always pre-order, but they also offer a daily variety of sweet treats and cakes off-the-shelf.

Shante was so wonderful to work with! The cupcakes are beautiful, delicious, and an INCREDIBLE value for the price she offers. Just ordered these for a friend as a birthday surprise- I got the red velvet and they were delicious! Shante responded responded to my request quickly and let me put in the order only 3 days before delivery. The delivery fee was also only $5 which was awesome. I wish you could customize a dozen with more than just one flavor but other than that it was perfect!

This place is AWESOME! The owner responded promptly to my email about ordering. I wanted to send my son a dozen cupcakes for his 21st birthday (he's in school in Baltimore and we live out of state.)
She went above and beyond and even delivered them ON his actual birthday which was a Sunday. And not only that she texted me a picture of the cupcakes. She is so sweet!!
My son LOVED the cupcakes (and he is a self-proclaimed foodie) and so did all his friends. I ordered chocolate with vanilla frosting. They had some sprinkles on them - looked AMAZING. She had it packaged super cute too.

I have ordered from Sophisticakes twice. Both times the cupcakes were DELICIOUS. The first order were the Chocolate Reeses Cupcake that were so moist and incredible. The second time was the Oatmeal Cream Pie cupcakes. They tasted even better than Little Debby!!! NO LIE! The business owner is so sweet and willing to work with you to get any flavor you desire!!
