Actinic keratosis is a term derived from the Greek roots: actinic, meaning light; and keratosis, meaning a thickening or roughness of the skin's outer surface. These appear as small persistent reddish-brown or gray, rough, scaly spots. Sometimes it may be easier to feel them than to see them. Sometimes the lesion will sting or burn, and sun exposure may heighten these symptoms.

Dr Neil Fernandes is an excellent and exceptional dermatologist that I have ever been to. He is very knowledgeable and quickly helped me with my problems which several other doctors couldn’t! The way he listens and pays attention to every detail is extremely commendable! If I could give Infinite stars I will give it for him. I am that impressed!

I have been a patient for more than 15 years, and the patient care and bedside manner of the facility have decreased greatly in the last few years. Communication is terrible. Front office staff in their Mohs Surgery Center are less than thrilled to be at their job. No explanation of what to expect with the surgery ahead of time, and the after care explanation was non-existent, had to go back multiple times, which was never explained upfront. The last visit was dismissive, and rude. I will no longer be using this Dermatologist.

I have been a frequent patient over the last 10+ years and love them. I have hit the trifecta having all 3 types of skin cancer, all of which they expertly managed from diagnosis through Mohs and follow-up. Routine follow-up is always thorough and very professional. As a retired Oncology Nurse, there isn't much I haven't seen. I have had care at both of the offices and it is the same high standard at both locations. To protect patients and staff, scheduling this past year has required booking early to ensure staying on schedule with follow-up....to be expected as COVID has impacted all aspects

The staff is welcoming, polite and patient. My experience with PA Hillary has always been positive since first seeing her a few years ago. She is professional, caring and listens to my concerns. She has never taken radical measures when addressing concerns but approaches it with reason and caution. The Skin And Cancer Center also have a good online site which is comprehensive and allows you to fill out forms before arriving for an appointment and pay bills online without difficulty.

At 55, I'd never had a full body evaluation for skin cancer in spite of bad family history. Based on a spot on my scalp, my family doctor sent me here. I was happy with the check-in process (nice salt-water aquarium) and I was taken to an exam room on time. The doctor was thorough, and explained the various categories of bumps and spots on my skin. Finally, he prescribed a topical solution that has nearly eliminated the scalp problem that started this.
This is Arizona. Skin cancer is common. If you notice something unusual, see your doctor. If you have your choice of referrals, choose this place

Dr Ryan Owen is an excellent Doctor Who has been in the field for some 5+ years now. The advantage of someone with his experience is knowledge about the latest and greatest techniques that skin care have to offer. Some of the older doctors seem to be more set in their ways as to where Dr. Owen is open to learning new techniques. I would highly recommend him as an excellent dermatologist.
