Steppin' Out Dance Studio began in 1995, evolving out of the historic Betty May Dance Studios which served the children of the Mission District since the 1930's. Together Angela Rose and Avilee Goodwin continued the Betty May tradition while expanding her vision. New dance styles such as hip hop, creative movement, and contemporary have been added to the repertoire.
Through our history, Steppin' Out has striven to offer the young people of the neighborhood a place to learn dance technique, improve grace, poise, self-esteem, and gain performance experience in a nurturing atmosphere. We give children and young adults an outlet to express themselves freely through dance.

Came here for a class taught by Chris Bautista and it was amazing. My friends and I took the Cardio Fit/Hip hop fit class? that Chris was subbing for and man, was that a workout!
We really didn't know what we were getting ourselves into, but everyone was super inviting. Chris is an amazing instructor, too bad he doesn't teach this class regularly. Although the pace was quick, we were able to pick up the steps and choreography. It doesn't really matter honestly if you get the moves down or not, just keep moving and dance! The class involved a simple dance piece with some fitness (pushups/squats

Steppin' Out is a great dance studio for the littles and a true community gem. My daughter loves the preschool-age class. We started taking her when she was 2.75 years old and it was the cutest thing you've ever seen. She has wanted to continue going to dance all this time. All the teachers we've had are wonderful, including our newest teacher, Dora.

My daughter loves Steppin' Out Dance and my entire family loves, Angela, the owner. Angela runs the studio with the perfect mix of, warmth, patience and dance background. She is professional and has a strong knowledge for how to teach children how to dance. Instruction is kept fun and playful but the technique is being taught and the kids are getting a solid foundation of dance principles whether it's ballet, tap, tumbling. the annual dance performance is the perfect way for the kids and families to celebrate all that they've learned and accomplished.

Angela, the director of Steppin' Out, is a natural genius with children. She is so patient, enthusiastic, and respectful. Her classes are all about self-confidence and joy. I have two daughters, both now 20-somethings, who grew up with Steppin' Out. Angela's influence on their lives has been enormous. And if you happen to have a child with a disability, as I do, check out her classes for children and young adults with special needs. You will be blown away!
