Services
The fare is authentic and prepared with much pride and creativity. The appetizers make you think you're catching a breath of that stale yet sweet swamp air from the Atchafalaya. The Cheeseburger is an old Cajun recipe that produces a thunderous taste blast. Upon pain of decapitation, I can't reveal to you the secret.

My husband and I had the shrimp po boy lunch special. I had the fries and he had the red beans and rice. The sandwiches were very good, although they could have had a few more shrimp on them. The beans and rice was tasty with just enough spice. The fries were pretty average. The beer selection was limited. Our total bill, including alcohol, was under $30. Overall, a great dining experience.

Got takeout the other day for lunch - the #5.. poboy and gumbo cup.
I was disappointed by the poboy. The bread and was somewhat stale and the ingredients just didn't seem fresh or substantial.
The gumbo was alright, but, like the poboy, didn't seem particularly fresh either.
Given the popularity of the place I still think it's worth another try, especially for dinner... Just looking at the pictures makes me hungry!

All I can say is WOW this place is a hidden food lovers dream if your into good old fashion Cajun food. I was so impressed and I travel and eat at many places but this one is recommended. Nina was my server and she did a awesome job with a genuine smile which is hard to come by these days. Shawna the manager on duty was delightful as well. The food was hot, the gumbo is authentic with great New Orleans style taste. I loved the ambience and people who both worked there and clientele. I will definitely be here as much as possible.they are very reasonably priced they should go up on the prices, I

A humble cajun restaurant with some outdoor seating (+bees), decent food, and friendly service. It was a bit busy at the end of lunch time, so service was a little slow.
As for food, the gumbo was not memorable, except that the sausage was pretty tasty. The grilled shrimp po-boy was not bad, since it had a good amount of protein in it, but the Evangeline (thousand island) sauce overpowered the flavor. For $9 it's a good deal, but my overall experience was just average.
I may come again for a quick to go lunch.

The best and most authentic of Cajun/Creole food I know of in Austin. My wife and I lived in the New Orleans area for about 5 years and can speak with some authority. Pick your favorite Creole or Cajun dish and you will not be disappointed but the crown jewel for us is the Pecan-filled pistole for desert. I would go to this restaurant for this alone. It is just about the best desert (for my money) that you can buy in Austin. Go there if you know what real Creole/Cajun cooking is all about and you won't be disappointed. A restaurant in Austin to put on your short list.

Food quality has gone from 5 stars to 2 Stars... We were here last night and left saying "Wow, dinner was Meh...Big Let-Down!!"
+Chicken & Sausage Gumbo: Very very watered-down, half a 1 chicken, didn't see any Sausage. And Zero Flavor guess it was just too watered down. But lots and lots of white rice.
+Seafood Gumbo: Also very watered-down, 2 pieces of possibly 1 shrimp, everything else must have disintegrated into nothing or it was too small for the Eye to See!! And again...no real flavor. Too much liquid added to the roux. IDK
+Stuff Pork Chop: Overcooked, very dry. No

I grew up with Cajun neighbors. They were Shrimpers so if it's from the sea, I've eaten it and regularly cook it. Any time we are South, we try a Cajun restaurant. We have had awesome meals at Evangeline and were anxious for another. Today was disappointing. I read the reviews so it's surprising.
We (4) ordered Chicken Gumbo, Seafood Gumbo, Étouffée, Red Beans & Rice, Fried Shrimp & Fries and Fried Catfish & Dirty Rice. You can do the math.
Chicken Gumbo was ok.
Seafood Gumbo was very bitter with little Gumbo flavor.
Étouffée was blond which is ok, but I prefer the darker version with more

I have been eating at Evangeline's since it opened in 2003 because it opened the same time I moved here from Boston. My husband played bass there for many different bands.
While going through chemo, staff made food I could actually eat. It was a community and it's my hope this review reaches Curtis.
I moved before the pandemic and this made it stressful for me to just get across town. Now we're in an increasing struggle for all restaurants. I had seafood gumbo with one shrimp and six oysters, the roux was bitter from scorching. My fries were cold.

We've been eating at Evangeline for many years. We thoroughly enjoy Monday nights with Charles Thibodeaux and the Cajun Aces And can't wait for their return to the corner "stage". I am giving a five star review because Evangeline is five star capable and striving to return to the top of their game. They have slugged it out with Covid-19 for fifteen months now. The day they had to shut down inside service, they attended to our need for a Cajun Food Fix at their outdoor patio. But, the stress of the "slow times" had to take a toll.
We ate there yesterday and ordered

Evangeline's is the place that we treat ourselves to, our little dining reward. It's the place we take out-of-town guests to when we want them to have a meal that they will remember and talk about.
New Orleans is an 8-hour drive away but this restaurant serves the same great food and it's just a few miles from home.
We've enjoyed the Boudin sausage and fried alligator. The jambalaya and gumbo are great, too, although I wish that the portions were larger. We had a guest who had a cosmic experience with their stuffed pork chop.
Last night we finished a great catfish meal (also

Now this place is a hidden gem in South Austin! If you like a variety of Cajun food then this is the spot for you. I had the Cajun style drum with a cream white wine sauce that was delicious! The gumbo is spot on too. The place is pretty festive with a nice south Austin vibe. All in all an excellent place. They also have gator bites and frog legs for those that are a little more adventurous.

Eating here is like being teleported straight back to Acadiana where I grew up. The smell that greets you when walking in is so familiar and comforting. The decor is 100% Louisiana.
I had the Alligator bites, fried to perfection. I thought the sauce on The top was a little unnecessary, because the alligator tasted perfect by itself, but to each his own.
The etoufée was almost 100%. The only suggestion is to add a little more flour to the sauce to thicken it up. Not much, just maybe 10% more flour.
I'll definitely be back.
