Beautiful hotel located inside the gates of West Point Military Academy. They have a couple restaurants and rooftop bar if you're wanting to just stay close and chill.

Service was good and the hotel is very well maintained.

I was blessed with the opportunity to stay there at no charge because our son got invited to take a tour there, so the Academy took care of all the reservations and fees.
I believe the hotel can fill up pretty fast especially if there a special events so if you're interested I would advise to call and book ahead of time just to be safe.

I would avoid this place. The advertising and what is claimed to be offered is not quite correct. What is portrayed own the in room TV doesn't resemble what actually is available.

At present, they are only "open" Thursday-Saturday for meal service with a mediocre breakfast offered on Sunday (buffet). The MacArthur Restaurant is not what it once was, they have cut corners, food is average at best and the prices are beyond what you get for the money spent ($144 for two). They also had a wedding (lots of them and meetings and all disruptive) in an attached open room thereby making

I ordered the filet and spinach. Both super salty especially the spinach. Waitress was super inattentive. Asked for a salad took 30 min to get it . Had to tell her about it. Then my guest ordered a glass of wine and she took another 30 min . Had to remind her again! Mind you it wasn’t even busy for her to forget. I don’t recommend this place to eat . I recommend eating elsewhere for better service.

Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, The Thayer Hotel dates to 1926 and was built to accommodate United States Military Academy personnel and their guest. The Thayer Hotel is named after the first superintendent, 1817-1833, at the academy, Colonel Sylvanius Thayer.
Built in Gothic style architecture, the stately granite stone hotel sits high on a hillside overlooking the beautiful Hudson River. Historic preservation took place in in the late 1990s. Chandeliers, beautiful leaded glass windows and massive carved wooden ceiling beams are just a few of the interior features of this

Their brunch is absolutely, hands down, the BEST! The views are spectacular, service incredible, and food just amazing. So much variety, and their Bloody Mary bar is such a treat!

The hotel itself is amazing. Historic and grand in all aspects. Had dinner in the restaurant for a large group. Over 20 folks. Had a pre fix menu. Thought that would be a dead giveaway to a mediocre meal. Wrong. I had the Monk fish. Unbelievably good. Everyone that ordered that was just as glowing in their feedback of the meal. Wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable and friendly. Very glad we are here for the group.

Loved this historic hotel. Room was comfy and I was surprised at how sound proof it was. Honestly, we got to the room and I said to my husband "oh great, we're right above the bar" (the whole backside of the hotel is) but I could just barely hear it!

We were part of a large group and the catering for different events was wonderful. The Zulu bar had awesome bartenders and relaxing seating areas. Only downside is that because of the noise ordinance they have to shut down the music at 11 pm.

A few suggestions, please take out the carpet in the gym, it's slippery and unsanitary

Overall the hotel was in great shape. The historical bones remained but the rooms were upgraded to mostly modern amenities. The toiletries were ok but not put to par to the standard but the sheets and rooms sizes were top notch. The food was also below par for this restaurant. I was here for 3 days and would say the food was the worst part.

Rooms: 4 out of 5 stars. upgraded with nice finishes. Room sizes are large. Getting to your room may require stairs which is a pain!!

Fitness center- 2 out of 5 stars. very basic fitness center and not enough cardio equipment. There was only two treadmills

This could have very easily been a 4 star review vs. a 3 star. They bill themselves as a luxury hotel but that's really stretching things. I'd say if you are here for the history ... You are in the right place. The hotel is inside the West Point campus (you have to pass through a military-guarded checkpoint to get into the lot) and as the hotel mentions, it has been the host to many US Presidents, military leaders and world leaders visiting campus.

The hotel has a castle-like feel. From the outside stone structure to the giant lion and eagle stone gargoyles. The inside has flags, beams

Hotel located in the land mark that is usma. I'd say this place is a solid 3 star hotel in location where there isn't much else. The service is super friendly.. What makes this unique is that quite a few of the rooms are decorated with memorabilia and information of past graduates and what they have done.

My friend had his wedding reception here which had the lake side view and the food was as expected.

It's a historic hotel. Choice of Hudson River or Academy view from your room. The hotel is on the actual base. You will go thru a security gate and be required to show ID.
Given the age of the hotel, it's in good shape. Rooms are oddly shaped. Heating/cooling system a bit spotty in terms of temp control. Beds are okay but not super comfortable.
It's an interesting bucket list type experience staying there. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Honestly there is not a traditional Marriott type hotel nearby. Many budget motels. So The Thayer is a standout for the area.

I stayed here with my fiancé for a night. First approaching the hotel, you'll have to stop by the front gate to let the guard know you are staying at the hotel. Not a big deal and it makes sense for security reasons since the hotel is located on the West Point Army base. All he did was ask to see our ids.
From the appearance of the outside, the hotel looks like a castle on a hill. It has a semi-steep drive up to the hotel door. The parking lot is located just passed the front gate on the left. The hill may be difficult for elderly to walk up, but they do offer valet service, if needed.

I was in and out of this hotel for close to 2 weeks. I was with a group that used one of their conference rooms. The hotel both inside and out is spectacular. The details and views are amazing!! The place looks like a fortress.

Now the minus: it was liking pulling teeth getting the front desk and housekeeping to get standard things we needed for our conference room. The first two days we went without a coffee and breakfast spread. And it was a daily challenge getting them to clean and vacuum the room after each day. When we asked for things they were very slow to service the room. They also sporadically
