The personalized nature of nutrition is increasingly disregarded. Oversimplified concepts and misinformation drive food trends and diet fads. Inequities and social comparisons perpetuate feelings of shame and guilt about our bodies and health status. My intention is to provide inclusive nutrition care that respects and values the complex, unique needs of each client.

I specialize in helping folks who are experiencing disordered eating, especially when complicated by digestive health conditions. When appropriate, I help with weight-neutral, therapeutic diets for medical conditions, like Low FODMAPs for IBS. I also help endurance athletes and ethical vegans to evaluate nutritional adequacy.
Services
Before I became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I had a stressful career in finance. I worked long hours, survived on business meals and caffeine, and traveled between Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. After exhausting all other options, my doctor recommended the Low FODMAP diet. That experience helped me to understand both the benefits and complications that come with this type of recommendation.
Call your insurance plan in order to verify your coverage and benefits for nutrition therapy / counseling. Many clients find it helpful to have a notebook for taking notes, along with a list of questions. Upload any additional paperwork that you feel might be helpful (e.g.food/symptom journal). Nutrition therapy sessions are a time for us to talk about your needs and nutrition goals.
I ask all clients to verify insurance coverage with your insurance company, even if I am a network provider. Coverage depends on your specific plan, not my status as a network provider. For example, I am a network provider with Cigna, but that company typically writes insurance plans that only cover 3 sessions in your lifetime, unless you are diagnosed with an eating disorder by a licensed physician or therapist.

Johanna is phenomenal; both as a person and as a nutritionist. I came to her unsure of what I needed exactly, all I knew then is I really wanted help. Having PCOS & dealing with postpartum, she was the best person I could have found. If you want to have a life long shift with your relationship to food, health, nutrition, and your body then get in contact with Johanna. There is no 90 day meal plan, there is no goal for your scale to reach, this is real *actual health and well-being*. I’ve been with her for 6 months and the change in me has been drastic. Her effect on my life has been extremely

I'm super grateful for having worked with Johanna. I started using intuitive eating for about 6 months before I reached out to her. I had read the book and completed a lot of the workbook but I felt like I was really struggling with the balance I had hit (might have done a bit of a 180 from trying not to eat "junk food" to deciding that anything that might have been delicious but also diet friendly was off the table). Our sessions really helped me see these patterns, find some balance, and get to a place where no foods were off limits.

I cannot put into words how much Johanna helped me through my nutrition journey. I started seeing Johanna over a year ago, and the amount of changes and improvements throughout those months have been incredible. She pays great attention to detail and is eager to help with your individual needs. She's not only a great nutritionist, she's also one of the kindest people I've ever met. I'm truly thankful to Johanna for all the coaching and help that she has provided. I recommend her 100%.

I had an IBS flair up at the beginning of quarantine and put myself on the FODMAP diet. Problem was, I didn't know how to get myself off of it. Johanna walked me through re-introducing foods and provided me with sound, evidence-based information along the way.

Johanna is so incredibly sweet, talented, and educated. She’s very trauma informed and I can just tell she treats everyone individually from a strengths based approach! She makes things seem normal instead of abnormal. 10/10 would recommend everyone to see her

Johanna Richter has been a huge help with my relationship with food and my body. I have been seeing her for less than one year and I have grown so much! I look back on how life was for me before seeing her, and I can see how much she has helped coach me through some really difficult stuff. I recommend Johanna to everyone! I cannot say enough about how much she has done for me.

Johanna is a queen among peasants, and by this I mean she has walked with me patiently and gently through living with an eating disorder. She is non judge mental and inspires me to continue to understand what intuitive eating means and how to love the skin I’m in. So grateful for this human.
