Dr. Christine Semenza, a behavioral optometrist, is a graduate of the State University of New York College of Optometry, located in New York City. Dr. Semenza received special training in vision development in the Infant Vision and the Vision Therapy Departments of the College. She was an intern in the Optometry Department at the Gesell Institute for Human Development in New Haven, CT.
The examination is conducted by the doctor and is one hour in length. Visual health and the need for glasses is assessed, as well as important binocular and focusing skills and eye tracking. We are handicap accessible and are experienced in evaluating patients with special needs. A more in-depth vision examination is offered to those concerned about their own or their child's visual performance.
Vision therapy, or in very simple terms, eye exercises, is a program of treatment designed specifically for an individual to help with his or her vision problems. Vision therapy can improve difficulty with binocularity (eye teaming), accommodation (focus), and eye tracking. Common binocular problems that benefit from vision therapy include amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (eye turn).
One out of every four children struggle with learning and reading because of an undiagnosed vision problem. Therefore it is important to know the signs of a potential vision problem that can interfere with a child's ability to learn and read. Vision screenings in school and at the pediatrician's office usually only test distance visual acuity.
The fitting of contact lenses is a specialty of our practice. Following your vision evaluation, and using the latest technology to map the front surface of your eye, we will recommend the contact lens option that best fits your individual needs and lifestyle. Daily disposable and planned replacement soft contacts for nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.

Saw so many positive reviews, so wanted to share my negative experience. My 4 year daughter had 3 visits, with minimal improvement in vision. During the final visit, Dr. Semenza requested that she needed another 1 hour appt to do a thorough exam and then a 45min review with the parents.
To me, this seemed strange, and so I took her to pediatric ophthalmologist up in Providence, and on the first visit, she was able to correct the vision with confidence. She dilated her eyes and used tools to arrive at the correction. Needless to say, my daughter lit up being able to see clearly. The correction

The doctors, therapists and staff at Semenza Behavorial Optometry are always professional and friendly. Dr. Christine Semenza, the doctor that we see on a regular basis, is very thorough and patient. She always allows time for questions and explains things in an easy to understand manner. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone, but especially to those who require vision therapy.
