Baxter & Cicero Sailmakers of Newport Beach was founded in 1937, as Gardiner & Baxter, by two corporate executives-Bud Gardiner and Bill Baxter. They wanted a sailmaking facility for their yacht on the West Coast. Saint Cicero was brought into the company upon fulfilling his WWII military service. Saint was an active Star class sailor who also sailed aboard the schooner, Goodwill, and many other yachts.
Eventually the company name was changed to Baxter & Cicero, still the firm's name today. In 1982, Baxter & Cicero, Inc. was purchased from the remaining Cicero family members by Henry P. Services
Baxter & Cicero makes all types of canvas products, not just canvas for boaters and sailors. For some products we recommend acrylic canvas; for others we recommend cotton duck canvas. We typically manufacture boat canvas and outdoor use covers with acrylic material such as acrilan or Sunbrella. In the trade, these products are called marine canvas.
Baxter & Cicero marine canvas products are well known by Newport Beach boaters and sailors. Marine canvas products in Sunbrella or acrilan are durable, water-resistant, and retain their color for years. We also make marine canvas products for business and homes. Custom marine canvas covers are a staple of our business.
For its water-resistance, durability and good color retention, we recommend Sunbrella, an acrylic canvas, for many covers and marine canvas products we fabricate. We use UV-resistant white or black polyester thread to build marine canvas products. We tend to use black thread on darker fabrics and white thread on lighter colored fabrics.
We fabricate padded blade bags for dinghies, one-designs, and daysailors. We build these board bags with quality zipper and handles in your choice of acrylic canvas such as Sunbrella. If we don't have a stock template for your rudder, centerboard, daggerboard, leeboard, we can certainly measure your gear in our shop!
Boat awnings reduce your yacht's exposure to bird droppings and the elements; they keep your boat cleaner so you can enjoy it more. Building a boat awning in sections facilitates put-up, removal, and storage. Sections of boat awning are easier to handle than a single bulky, heavy canvas. We recommend boat awnings of Sunbrella synthetic canvas because it offers good water resistance, dimensional stability, and color retention.

I took a c320 mainsail in for some minor repair work and to add sail numbers. I did not ask for an estimate or a time line. B & C checked over the whole sail, fixed a few problems, and had the sail ready in just 3 days. The cost was below what I expected. Fast, friendly and reasonable service. My head sail is in their loft now for maintenance and I've requested a quote for a new headsail. The owner answers all technical questions and gives great advice.
