Mindful Mountain Yoga is excited to be the first (and only) dedicated yoga studio in Amherst County. Our name comes from how we practice, being mindful, and from who we are, the Blue Ridge is in the water and in our DNA.
The studio offers opportunities for group yoga and tai chi classes at all levels of experience for students interested in maintaining overall health, as part of athletic training, and for improving injury, illness and loss of conditioning which comes with aging.Our classes are a safe, supportive community where we can laugh at our own foibles without worry or judgement.

We practice a personal yoga style, suitable for anyone beginning with yoga or having an active practice. Mindful stretching, balance and breath awareness considers individual limitations, with modifications for challenging postures. Encouraged to test our abilities through physical effort and mental focus, classes are taught with humor, able to smile at ourselves, without being judgmental or competitive.
This graceful standing movement practice developed thousands of years ago, Tai Chi and Qigong class is exercise that calms our mind and strengthens our balance. The flow and shift of gentle movement centers our attention, keeping it present. The meditative aspect of our classes is key to sensing balance.
Hand drums, traditionally the djembe covered with goatskin or congas with cowhide skins, and modern versions made of fiberglass, are the core of our drumming. Learning base, tone and slap sounds, we practice simple beats. Tone, tone, base. The dundun, struck with a small mallet, keeps time. Other hand drums can also play- ashikos, bongos, plus a variety of other percussion played in time with our beat.
Group classes are an ongoing, rewarding personal commitment to a regular practice by offering 10 class, 5 class and single class options at an affordable price. Tai Chi / Qigong has an additional "only " option with bonus private instruction or bodywork massage. Single class attendance is a great way to familiarize yourself with practice or attend as a guest.
