Lenaea High School Theatre FSTVL
Inspired by the Lenaea Festivals of Ancient Greece, Dr. Carl Thomas, then Chair of Sacramento State College's Department of Theatre, initiated this program in 1955. His desire was to establish an event that would support and encourage high school students with an interest in theatre.

Over the ensuing 60 years, Lenaea has seen many changes and has grown tremendously into a multi-programmed event offering students the opportunity to enter into the following categories: One-Act Plays, Student Directed One-Acts, Student Written One-Acts, Musical Theatre Solos, Duo Scenes, Monologues, Set Design and Costume Design.
Services
The Lenaea High School Theatre Festival believes unequivocally that Black Lives Matter. Systemic racism has oppressed Black people for generations in every sector, and the theatre is no exception. We can never again ignore the violence and injustice that threaten Black lives and wellbeing. As theatre practitioners, we know that theatre is a change agent.
We are undertaking an alternate scoring process for the 2021 festival, as we acknowledge that the traditional scoring process cannot be used uniformly in a virtual environment. Consistent with past practice, respondents use a performance-based assessment rubric to score competitive categories.

Performances and presentations are scored using a category-specific rubric and a standardized point scale of 1 to 10 for each of the elements defined on the rubric;.Scores for each element are added together and any penalty deduction is subtracted to determine a total score.
