At Mackey Vision Center, each member of our vision care team is selected by Dr. Benjamin Mackey based upon his or her experience, professional demeanor, and dedication to providing personalized care to our optometry patients. Our entire Corbin optometry staff is committed to ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of each and every patient.
In 2002, Dr. Benjamin Mackey joined his father in practice and expanded the services of Mackey Vision Center to include medical and surgical eye care. In Spring 2015 the practice experienced exponential growth and it became evident to Dr. Benjamin Mackey that growth was going to be necessary in order to keep up with patient volume and to continue to provide the highest level of patient care available.
Dr. Mackey was born and raised in Corbin and attended Saint Camillus Academy. He went on to Transylvania University and then to medical school at the University of Louisville where he graduated with honors in 1998. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University in Washington, DC where he served as chief resident.
Dr. Kayla Lankheit graduated from College Of Optometry in Memphis, 2017, after finishing her undergrad biology degree from Northern Kentucky University in 2013. Since her graduation, she has been with our Mackey Vision Center Team. Dr. Lankheit is certified to diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions affecting the eye.
Cataracts are the leading cause of visual loss in adults of age 55 and older and the principal cause of blindness worldwide. A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. The lens is mostly made of water and protein. The protein is arranged in a precise way that keeps the lens clear and lets light pass through it.
