Mosquito Cafe
Remarkably, the Mosquito cafe has been reviewed in over twenty-eight articles from Dallas and Forth Worth, San Antonio, Houston to Lake Charles, with no negative reviews. The upscale eclectic menu has created a cult following among locals, nearby medical professionals and visitors enticed by the originality of the grilled, roasted, sauteed and steamed dishes and any others tired of hush puppies, poboys and fried shrimp combos.

The Mosquito Cafe is open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner and breakfast on the weekends. There are both indoor (non-smoking) and patio choices available. This urban American cafe is clean-lined and uncluttered in sharp contrast to the Victorian gingerbread that surrounds it. The menu is just an unusual for the island, showcasing salads, trendy grilled sandwiches and deep bowls of pasta.

Before coming here I read through quite a number of reviews, but many of them left out certain specifics which I'll point out. First of all parking spaces are few and you may have to find parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Within the establishment there is about 16 four top tables and 8 to 10 more outdoors. I was pleased to see that they have turbinado sugar on the table and apparently they use real maple syrup not the fake stuff. They have a small craft beer selection mostly of Galveston Island Brewing beers. Their wine selection is more varied. Like many have said, you have to stand

Great Mimosas, Breakfast was decent, the kids loved their big fluffy pancakes, Buttery cheesy grits, & eggs. I think this is more of a Intimate Cafe, and our big party of 10 was a alot. Substitutes were hard, they didn't have any chicken or turkey options as my family don't eat red meat but We made do with sides like potatoes & crab/ shrimp. I Would definitely come back with just Hubby & I because the staff was so nice and accommodating.

Only reasoning for taking a star away is bc when you walk in, you have to order before you sit. I felt rushed and overwhelmed so I just ordered something basic. Once I sat down(after ordering) and looked at the menu, they had so many other great options that I wish could've been ordered. Other then that, the food and drink was great and will go back and maybe order something better.

Food was on point. Seriously. Everything was fresh, tasty, and pleasantly served. Service on the other hand was very disappointing. First I understand their seating policy. Order at counter THEN get your table. That way people who have ordered food get tables. BUT a bit of situational awareness would go a LONG way. Two families in line to order food and four open tables. Let the parent with kids sit while the other orders if there is a surplus of tables. Again, two people in line and there were FOUR open tables but she made us get up with our kids and wait until we actually placed our order before

This place was so quaint and wonderful with pretty good food. We enjoyed everything we had.
We were in town for a wedding and decided to stop here our last morning in town. While it was a Sunday brunch time frame, the wait wasn't bad at all and well worth it!
We had eggs that were perfectly cooked, bacon that was nice and crispy without being overcooked.
We enjoyed our food out on their porch, which was enjoyable and very pretty. Everyone dining and working there was pleasant and we absolutely enjoyed our meal.
If you're stopping in town or a resident, this is definitely an

Great place for breakfast. Been here more for dinner over the last few years. Chinese chicken salad is well balanced and filling. The few soups I've had were very good. Thai noodles (side option) are awesome.

First time here. Sunday afternoon off season. Small wait in line to place order. Service good. Plenty of seating. Ordered has tacos. Very good could be hotter eggs were ordered over easy cane medium and cold. Mom ordered huevo ranchero's. Good but cold. We like spicy food so not spicy enough for us had to add hot sauce.

I'd come back one more time to see if food is hot.

The place is very popular, there was a significant line when we stopped by on Sunday. But the service was organized so well, we started eating very soon. The food was very good, and the stuff was really friendly and helpful.

We arrived 20 minutes before closing on a Sunday! The staff greeted us and we ordered at the counter.
Mom and I both got salads - she had the house with grilled ahi tuna. And I ordered the Caesar with grilled shrimp. Both orders came out lovely and the 7 year old liked both the tuna and shrimp.
Cute spot with kitschy local art on the walls. The menu is extensive so consider previewing it before you go.

Fantastic find on Yelp!! The line to get in was a bit long but the food comes quickly. O had the big breakfast (eggs, bacon, wonder cheese grits and toast) The wife had the shrimp and grits... both wonderful. We will be coming back when we venture down to the island.

Stopped in on a whim, and was more than impressed at this little shop. Great food, good service, and sad we didn’t get any dessert. Will have to come back for more. Come to this place if your looking to shake up your Galveston routine and need some good family friendly food!

It was really good, I had a chicken salad salad. I wanted the chicken salad sandwich but I think my boyfriend ordered the wrong thing. It was still good. They had a patio my dog was able to enjoy in the shade and they even brought him some water.

Great way to do Galveston tourist experience while supporting a local mom and pop style spot. I came in hungry so I ordered the Mango Slaw to come out first. It's a very chill quirky vibe, but the menu will impress with it's variety && specials.

I wish I had been more adventurous. You'll see on their menu more of the Galveston specialties. However, the pasta dishes pictured were great, fresh salad and yummy bacon on the bruschetta. The cake to go was moist and not too sweet, felt homey.

This cozy Cafe has the most unique menu and recipes. It's all delicious and save room for the sweets cabinet. Take out is fine.

It was ok. Nothing fancy. Our food all tasted good but nothing to write home about.
The fruit was super fresh and delicious as a plus with the French toast.
Will give it another try

Stopped here for lunch with my amazing man. There were a few people waiting outside in a line. They were busy which, come to find out, is very normal for this place. There was a hostess that would open the door and let people in as the line inside moved forward. The line moved quickly and we waited maybe 10 minutes. My man and I placed our lunch order and another employee was very helpful in finding us a table. Everyone was very nice and accommodating!

My guy ordered the bagel with lox platter and he was very happy with his selection. The bagel was fresh and there was a huge pile of lox

A trip to Galveston isn't complete without having a meal at Mosquito Cafe!

Covid-19 safety protocols are in place. The food is always reliable and there is a wide variety of choices.

Today we dined on the Far East salad and the Plain O'burger. The burger was a little overdone and on the dry side. Salad was huge and as tasty as it looks. The biggest decision comes down to what dessert to pick!?! You can never go wrong with a slice of the Lemonade Dream cake! So refreshing and big enough to share!

Sometimes I will order one of the specials and have never made a choice that I regretted

This is a hidden little "gem" of a place, and I will emphasize little. I would recommend either planning ahead of time, or coming during their "off" hours to beat either the breakfast or the lunch rush.

The food was good, nothing that really knocked my socks off, though. The menu is really big, and with a walk up service counter, it is almost hard to choose what you want. This is not a sit down, take a look at the menu, relax, and then place your order type place.

We sat outside on their patio due to limited seating inside and our party size ... I do with the patio was a

Went in to grab some "to go" sweets. been wanting to try their lemonade dream cake for a while.
got the cake, a lemon bar and a chocolate toffee cookie...I nibbled each and OMG! fresh and delicious!
Yum!

October 17...lemonade cake had great lemon flavor (which I crave...so, yeah!) it was dense and very sweet...be ready! Ha!
Lemon bar wasn't as lemony, but still very good. Chocolate toffee cookie moist and chewy just the way it's suppose to be but, I didn't taste too much toffee. Oh well, still loved it.

All their baked items are made next door at Patty
