Lewis & Maese Auction
It is easy to find a variety of beautiful furniture and trinkets at one of today's major household stores, but they lack the authenticity that makes an item truly valuable. Lewis & Maese recognizes character in custom furniture and understands what sets "finds" apart from the rest. Many of our items were once treasures to someone else, and they can become treasures for you, too.

Gather your friends for an evening of socializing over food, wine and antiques. Or, visit the auction alone so you can focus on finding the perfect pieces for your home. Lewis & Maese auctions are entertaining and offer a special kind of shopping experience you will truly enjoy.
Services
Lewis & Maese Antiques & Auction specializes in consignment. People (also known as consignors) bring us treasures to sell on their behalf. Beautiful items arrive every day. Part of the excitement of buying from Lewis & Maese is finding a treasure that's just for you. We rarely buy pieces outright. Consigned items are priced based on our many years of experience in the industry.
The great advice "if you don't know the answer, make sure you know someone who does" applies to Lewis & Maese. Savvy in the art of location the perfect compliment to any decor, fearless in breaking tradition and mindful that good taste is often in the smallest of details. Lewis & Maese assists designers - from single rooms to entire houses.
Lewis & Maese is conveniently located in Houston, Texas just south of Interstate 10 on Sawyer Street. If you are interested in consignment with Lewis & Maese, please upload your photos and be sure to include pertinent information about the pieces including age, provenance, location or purchase, etc.

Excellent job, excellent help once arriving & this old lady couldn't fit items in her car.. so polite & helpful. This has been my 2nd purchase in the last couple months. Both times I have been so pleased. I've been going to auctions for 40yrs. Internet & pandemic haven't been a problem for me.
What a nice group of people there!

Lewis & Maese misrepresented a sculpture as a bronze when it was a mass produced piece of iron junk. They refused to cancel the transaction after they were the ones who made gross misrepresentations as to the quality of the item in their item description. Charged my card without my permission and after giving them the opportunity to take the high road when the whole thing was because they misrepresented the item as more valuable than it was. Credit card dispute time!

I consigned 13 items here in October 2018. I have not heard back regarding any of them. No sales, no returns, nothing. When I email about it, they respond with "we will look into it" and then nothing. They have a huge warehouse and I don't think any clue on how to track anything. If you want your items to go into a black hole of no return, take them here.

No recommendation. How they handle pieces and furniture is embarrassingly terrible. Even a good piece that goes through this auction house should get a mark down because of the damages that the item incurs through Lewis & Maese.

Absolutely horrible. I've been waiting 2.5 hours for my lot and was actively bidding. Was shown the green button I was in the lead and they skipped to the next lot. No warning the lot was closing. And they retracted my bid apparently? I was approved to bid 2 weeks ago and was waiting for these lamps. I've called three times in the 5 minutes after the lot closed and they're declining calls. I would have paid at least double what they show they went for. Complete waste of time.

Short story: I probably won't purchase from them again.

Long story: I bid on a few lots through one of their online auctions. I am local, but I wasn't able to go to the preview, so I relied on the photos of the items. This will come up again later.

When the auction ended, the items were marked with an ambiguous message "you may have won" and since there was also a live auction, I assumed others may have been bidding, so I waited to be contacted.

In the auction agreement, it states you will be notified by phone the next day if you win. I never received a call or email, but

Should have called police.
Called to schedule an appointment to look at my items for consignment. They put me at 10am Saturday morning. I drove 40 minutes to get there. They looked at my items and showed some interest in some snuff bottles but not others. The items were put all over the desk. The lid from one of my teapot from 19th century dropped to the ground and completely broken into pieces. I was shocked and didn’t know what to say.
Before I can say anything, he accused me of not coming in normal business hours that is why they have to do it so rush.
Come on! They picked the time, not

A year after consigning a chandelier and not hearing anything from Lewis & Maese, I went into the shop to find the status. The accounting lady found my contract and THANK GOODNESS I had a photo of my chandelier. The chandelier had sold 5 months earlier and lucky for me, was still hanging in their showroom. They had my chandelier listed as another consignor's merchandise but had not paid either of us. I was charged an insane amount to reassemble a chandelier that I could have put together in 10 minutes. Bottom line - After all of the above, I walked away with $375 on a chandelier with

My first Auction. It was awesome. I had a silver set I needed advice about. Earnest told me in seconds what kind it was and what era. This stuff is old and very beautiful. And fun fun fun to watch the bidding. Items sold for really cheap. I was floored. Wish I had done my homework before it started! I’ll be back!

This is not an auction house as they reserve the right to create artificial bids against customers to get at least their reserve. Also, they don't post this information online. In other words, they can bid $1000 on any item prior to an auction and you will think that the item has intense bidding going on, instead of just having a reserve.
Since this is a retail store using the auction house model to inflate prices, and not an auction house, I will give them 1 star for their business savvy of trying to lie to the public in order to inflate prices. If anyone is ever able to win a civil court

David Lewis runs a top notch auction house. The prices are great and the quality is high end to low end which offers opportunity to a wide spectrum of interests.
The fees are in line or lower than market and those who complain are obviously not familiar with how auction houses work here or abroad.

STAY AWAY! I have done business with Lewis & Maese many times in the past, mostly from 2010-2013, and while most of the items I bought were not anything special & bought on impulse, for the most part they were described somewhat accurately... Or I just didn't want to deal with it.

BUT, lately it has been a nightmare. I registered to bid in their January 11, 2017 auction, #239, and have had nothing but major issues. First, I bid live on their site on an antique sofa covered with silk velvet. I called in advance to get additional information & after bidding, it said that my bid

Won an item via LiveAuctioneers, which was described as in "perfect" condition. It arrived to me with a 2" crack in the glass. Because the vase has heavy iridescence, the crack is not immediately apparent, so it was either not originally seen or occurred in handling, whether it was preview or when the shipper (The UPS Store #1733) picked up.

The piece was double-boxed and the packaging in perfect condition, with no indication of impact, crush, etc...no dents, dings or even a mark to the box....so I discarded the packing...and then found the damage.

I called the auction house and

Participated in an online auction with them. The auction part went fine. The problem is shipping. First they did not send any shipping info until i contacted them! It was not in anything i was sent or could find on the online auction service they signed up for. Second, this auction house has relations with only 2 shippers both of which have a $75 minimum charge even to ship the smallest items. The shippers know this and act accordingly. I buy from all over the country and this place has the worst. The bottom line, until the auction house steps in to insist on better shipping rates

Don't like to say it, but buyers beware. They are selling 'Andy Warhols' and 'Keith Harings' with - to my opinion - a very questionable background. First, the Certificates of Auth. are from a company with a horrible reputation (google their address in Europe). Then, the signatures don't even look much like Warhols late work. Compare it yourself. And ten to twenty of those items...per auction...at low prices? I am an experienced buyer.

My online questions to L-M on this remained unanswered.

They do have some nice furniture every now and then. But don't just

David Lewis and Ernest Maese are two of the finest gentlemen I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. They are experts in their knowledge of antiques and collectibles, and they know how to conduct an enjoyable auction where bargains can be made. I have been going to their auctions for several years, and I always walk away with great stuff at a decent price. Wine and cocktails are complimentary, and they usually have an assortment of snacks (pizza, tacos, etc.) to purchase. The location is very convenient (located on Sawyer St. near to Target Store) , and they have valet parking. if

Hmm...not that great. I think the free wine gets people buying some less than stellar items for high prices. I agree with the other reviewer who said that the auctioneer often misses people in the audience. Also, parking is a beast.

They get great stuff, but the auctioneers miss people who are bidding and sometimes mistakes are made. I was told that my bidder number was the winning number at the price I had bid online, but then at the end of the night, someone else seemed to have bid much higher and got the item. Mistakes get made. I expected David Lewis to apologize, and he did at the next auction. That definitely shows character. I have to admit, I enjoy going there most of the time, sometimes there are bargains, sometimes not. The free drinks are nice, so bring a designated driver.
