Blue Door Urban Winery
A journey of taking an idea from the garage, carrying it to a local vineyard, discussing it with other winemakers, and continuing it into a commercial boutique winery. It's a journey that we're still on, and one that we're eager to see where it takes us. Come join us, there's good fun to be had. Go behind the scenes at Blue Door here and sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the page.

Our winemaking philosophy and the techniques we employ at Blue Door follow a straightforward approach - keep it as simple and as natural as possible, then always fill it with passion and commitment. Find our new urban winery location on Morena Blvd in San Diego. Just an hour's drive from San Diego, though some 4500 feet higher, is the backcountry town of Julian.
Services
Our winemaking philosophy and the techniques we employ at Blue Door follow a straightforward approach - keep it as simple and as natural as possible, then always fill it with passion and commitment. Yes, we seek out exceptional fruit and yes, we use natural fining techniques whenever we can. Of course we scrutinize every barrel our wine goes into and without exception we don't bottle and pour a wine we're not proud of.
Come on by to check out our spot on Morena Blvd! We've got plenty of parking, plenty of space at the bar, and of course plenty of fantastic vino! This is a full production facility so depending on when you're here, you'll be able to watch (even help) the winemaking process. This will be especially true during the fall when harvest will be in full swing.
Just an hour's drive from San Diego, though some 4500 feet higher, is the backcountry town of Julian. Nestled in the local mountains, this wonderful little town boasts fresh water fishing, waterfalls, forested hiking trails, old gold mines, cute B&Bs, and perhaps most famous of all - apple pies. Lots and lots of apple pies.
Our Morena Blvd location is available to host your event, be it a company party, a retirement, an engagement party, you name it. We offer very reasonable rates to close off the bar to the public so you and your group can enjoy wine and food among the barrels. Drop us a line and we'll walk you through the process.

Love this cute, charming winery in Julian. Blue door is located right in town. They have a large outdoor front patio area with tables and umbrellas. We took our dog with us. We did two flights of their wine and you can pick what wines you want to try. They also offer premade charcuterie plates. There is street parking.

Nice urban winery that focuses on reds, which I love the idea of but their reds just weren't to my liking. The night I went they only had three reds available and we wanted to do a tasting. So for $15 they let us try all three, choose a 2nd tasting of our favorite of the three and then a sample of their sangria. They had a merlot, cab sauv and syrah. The one i liked the best was the syrah. I think all of the reds came across more herbaceous? Or there was just a taste to them that I wouldn't normally associate with the grapes they listed.

The space is really nice though. A good amount

Local urban winery with wonder big, no apology, red wines, friendly staff and owners.
Right now they are punching down the wines and it smells so good to a wino.

My daughter and I met in San Diego and she had found this place online. 1 hour drive but well worth it! Owner Cameron was so friendly and the wine was super tasty! We “shared” the tasting and then had a couple cups (filled to the brim) of the wonderful Sangria! Cameron was so personable and came outside when things slowed down and chatted with us! We had her take pics of us and she was happy to do it! We also met the Mr. and Oliver! Great time had w really cool people! Great wine too!

To put it simply, it's the hidden wine heaven of San Diego. "Amazing" is an understatement. For those looking for an experience of what San Diego really has to offer in terms of wine. Give this place a try

Such a great experience here! James was so attentive and let us get the room set up for our surprise bridal shower. The sangria was great and we were able to bring in outside food and champagne ( small corkage fee). It was a beautiful venue and can't thank James and blue door enough for a great time!

The sangiovese was tasty, bought a bottle to take home. Received a free cheese and cracker box with 2 glasses of wine. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be going back. Great place to stop on the way to shop at Costco, Mellos your mood before the Costco scramble..

Was excited to visit this place, unfortunately it was far from a welcoming experience. Hardly greeted as we entered, not given recommendations. Bartender became more engaging and chatty after we were paying; seemed like he was more interested in a tip than providing actual service. Save your money, much better wineries elsewhere.

Super cool interior, great wine, and nice people. James offered us samples and chatted with us for a while. They don't have a kitchen but he gave us a takeout menu for the Italian place across the street called isa.bella Artisan Pizzeria. They delivered the food to us and it was some of the best pizza and pasta we've ever eaten, along with some of the best red wine we've ever drank.

Who knew? This whole little Bay Ho neighborhood is full of surprises. We're signing up for the wine club next time we stop buy.

Blue Door Urban Winery truly is a hidden gem. There's a parking lot right around the corner. The one person that was working there when we were here was super friendly and helpful. Try the sangria. It's the best I've ever had and I'm considering buying a jug next time to share with all my friends.

If you're in the area, I do highly recommend stopping by here for a quick and some games.

This hidden gem is walking distance from my new house. My roommates and I walked down to Blue Door a few nights ago (not knowing what to expect) and we had a blast! It is such a cute, laid-back atmosphere with friendly staff, great wine, and some games on each table! Needless to say, we will be back.

Oh, and did I mention there are paint & wine nights? There's also speed dating nights (...I hear there's a waiting list, so it must be good?) haha! I love this place. Will definitely be recommending to friends. :)

Incredibly impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the wine (all reds)! unlike many of San Diego's urban wineries, this one lacks all pretentiousness. The benefits of the wine club outperform as well: a complimentary glass of wine anytime you come in and three outstanding bottles of red a quarter for under $100. Great value!

A quaint little winery tucked into a row of businesses alongside Morena Blvd.

It's a nice place to hang out and sip on a few glasses of wine. They allow dogs and James the bar tender is really friendly!

They only usually offer 5 wines and Sangria, which keeps things simple and true to the wine they make. Each of their wines have Smokey undertones and offers unique flavors you don't usually find in certain varietals.

They often have events such as comedians or wine and paint nights, as well as a membership where you pay and get certain perks (including one free glass of wine for you

Not a big wine drinker. I like sweets and cold and such. This place did not have those. It was a very nice lil spot to drink wine, have some cheese and socialize. They do however have a very delicious Sangria, which I had 3 glasses. Staff is friendly, and they allow dogs.

Fun place to hang out. 5 tastings for $12. It can't be hard to find from the road, just look for the hanging wooden pallet.

We have been Wine club members from the beginning. The owners Marc & Kam are the greatest and all their wines are fabulous. Wine bar attendants James & Leilani are great. But Leilani, who was a doll just left and her replacement Sam is just as Awesome, Sweet, Adorable and just the perfect balance of Personality & Attentiveness. We really love it when Sam is there to serve us and visit. Anyone who has not stopped in for a wine tasting really must, you will quickly join their wine club.

It was our girls 33rd birthday and she wanted to do a little bit of wine tasting. We didn't want to go too far but also didnt want to do a restaurant scene. So after browsing through the trusty yelp app. I found Blue Door!

I love love this place, I first spoke to Leilani about having a very small shindig/birthday. She was so kind, took my name, put it on calendar and just asked to confirm the day before. So easy peasy. I left there thinking.. that was it? The day of the event, James was so much fun! He was so helpful! The extra table was out for our food. and the tables were reserved. Music

Great winery great wines love the merlot and Syrah. They get the grapes from elsewhere like Santa Barbara and make their wine here in San Diego and bottle it here too. Mark and Cameron are awesome! Leilani is an awesome host!!

BayHo now has a winery and it is awesome.

This is one of those places I don't want to tell you about because I don't want it to be crowded. BUT, I also want it to be successful, so...

Going to CostCo last night I saw some sort of fire heater by the sidewalk. I said to my girlfriend "What's that?" and she said "Kitchen 4140."

"No, it's not... I don't think..."

So on the way home, we look again and realize it's Blue Door Urban Winery! Of course, we're on the ramp back to Balboa and home to Crown Point, so what could we do? Well

There are two Yelp listings for here, so I'm leaving a review for both... Not at all a fan of red wines or anything that isn't sweet, but tonight I had a 2013 Zin (Peaceful Oaks Ranch) that I definitely liked. It had a nice, smooth finish, and the peppery taste of the Zin wasn't at all overpowering. Certainly a bottle I could see myself purchasing.

Service was very friendly and it's perfect to stop by for a quiet drink.
