Phoenix Bikes has supported local youth in the DC Metro area since 2007 - providing a safe, nurturing and educational environment that reinforces teamwork, hard work, and entrepreneurship through bike maintenance education programs.
Phoenix Bikes harnesses the power of bikes to help youth build passion, purpose, and a place in the community. We celebrate and embrace the diversity of everyone who walks through our doors and strive to be an inclusive place that cultivates compassion, expands perspectives, and grows the future stewards of our collective community.
Phoenix Bikes is located in the Arlington Mill Community Center, one block up Columbia Pike from the Four Mile Run and Washington & Old Dominion bike trails. CAR: You are welcome to park in the Arlington Mill Community Center public garage behind the building, accessible via 9th Street South/S. Arlington Mill Drive (first 4 hours free parking).
For Youth: Our August Classes are in full swing, and we're gearing up for a great season of fall program offerings. I went there twice for breaks and tube/tire repairs and the store is great.
1. Today I learned that they work with 12 non profits and help them with getting/fixing bikes!
2. The service is great and both times they stopped the work to assist me. (I mean they didn't ask me to leave the bike and come back etc.) they did the work imminently.
3. Very reasonable prices.
4. I asked them if they sell pumps. The guy told me they have extra one and he just gave it for free to me!

I bought my first bike here over 2 years ago and got a good deal. I bought another bike online last year that needed work, but due to new baby couldn't visit. I came today to get the bike serviced and their work and professionalism is great. They have the best prices for service in the DMV area. Their bikes go quick because they prices are so low. A good backup place to purchase would be Old Bike Shop in Arlington.
I love that they teach kids to service and build bikes. It's a nonprofit and their mission work is amazing. I'm happy to support them always.

These guys are awesome! I bought my current road bike from them a year ago and it’s been working great. They helped me install a bike rack at no cost and gave me great deals on bike repair tools. This is a great little place with friendly staff and good vibes. Plus I feel like my money is going to a good cause.

Phoenix Bikes is a community bike shop that can handle all of your biking needs. They sell refurbished bikes, parts, and can help you customize your bike to all of your needs.
Beyond that, they serve 500 youth, ages 12 to 17 teaching them bike mechanics, business, retail sales, book keeping, and more. Kids build a bike that is distributed to local at need community organizations, then can earn a bike for themselves. They can also become certified bike mechanics and they have an amazing job training and placement program, including resume building and references!

It's bike to work day. Great to see all the riders in the rain! I normally work on my own bike, but didn't have a spanner to tighten a loose headset. At the Shirlington Pit Stop the great folks at Phoenix Bikes were there with a spanner to fit! Now that baby is tight. Thanks, Guys. Trust a donation is coming your way. Keep up the good work!

I stopped by their bike sale at Impala with my heart set on finding a bike, and I was thrilled with my experience. The staff was friendly, patient, and worked really hard to help all the people that had showed up.
They helped me choose a great bike for commuting, gave me some good pointers for adjusting to city biking, and even installed a rack for me.
They were super approachable and made it really easy to ask questions. I've been really happy with the bike that I purchased and I would absolutely buy from them again.

By far the best bike shop I've found in the DC area! I tried a number of shops in DC and was consistently disappointed by the prices and long waits. Phoenix installed a new chain, front and rear derailleurs, and shifter cables on a used bike I'm fixing up in 2 hours, and it came out to about $30. Amazing.

If there's ever a business model to copy or emulate, this is it. I have the utmost respect for Phoenix Bikes and their dedication to the community and love for bikes. The staff here is friendly and they teach local kids how to fix and refurbish old, donated bikes. In return for their volunteered services, kids can "earn" a bike for all their volunteer work. The shop also offers fixes and affordable tune-ups to the public, but there can be a backlog in the summers. Go off peak. I took a few free workshops from Phoenix (one was fix-a-flat), as they partner with WABA and the women

Tell you what, these guys are the real deal. Cannot understate how awesome it is to have a place like this in my community. Totally hooked my young son up with a sweet ride for cheap. He couldn't be happier, and everyone you meet here is super friendly and helpful. A++ would give a sixth star.

This is the perfect bike shop for people who love to bike but don't own spandex, fancy jerseys or thousand-dollar road bikes. The people who work here are extremely friendly, helpful and down to earth. They know about bikes but aren't snobs about it.
True, they are only open twice per week, and yes, the selection of stuff can be limited, but it's a non-profit shop working for the greater good. I feel like the money I spend here is going to a good cause.

If you like to bike, welcome home. Full of shop nights, weekend bike sales, low cost repairs, extremely friendly workings, a great non profit, helpful bimonthly lessons, cheap bike parts, and an excellent atmosphere. Be forewarned that if you have never been, you may want to check out their website for specific directions because you may get lost. Other than that it is totally worth checking this place out because they can provide new and experienced bikers with bikes, parts, and teaching. Their main goal is to help local kids learn to build bikes and gain friendships and leaderships skills, but

So very glad to have found this place, but a little surprised that it's DC's only bike shop working for a greater cause. You see, in other parts of the country, nonprofit bike shops are almost the norm. They promote healthy transportation, while simultaneously investing in the capacity of the immediate community.
Phoenix Bikes does this perfectly. They fix up old bikes (recycling!) and run a simultaneous youth program (investing in the future!). The kids have a place to go after school, and in the process, learn a useful trade.
When I visited back in March they had a fine selection
