Services
We understand that members sometimes leave early. That's why our early termination policy is as fair and transparent as possible. For our group training memberships, we require members to pay for the difference between the discounted monthly rate they have received as a result of their longer commitment and the rate of the next longest commitment term they have completed times the total number of months the member was with us.
Athletic Lab is the premier sport science research and athletic development facility located in North Carolina led by renowned coach and sport scientist Dr. Mike Young. We provide sport specific training for athletes as well as CrossFit training for adults looking to get in the best shape of their life.
Athletic Lab is primarily a coach-driven training facility but we have allotted a limited number of Open Gym placements for members who are not interested in participating in our classes. Outside coaching and independent contractors are prohibited from providing instruction within Athletic Lab facilities.
Our Sport Performance programs offer elite coaching and world class training for youth through elite professionals. The Athletic Lab Scholastic Prep program is designed to follow best practices for Long Term Athlete Development. We don't just treat young athletes as miniature adults. We stress movement competency and building a wide ranging movement library for young athletes to build on.
Our Scholastic Prep program offers developmentally appropriate athletic development for youth athletes. Youth athletes are not just miniature adults and shouldn't be trained as if they are. To maximize both talent and engagement, youth athletes require training specifically catered to to their growth and developmental status.

I had Athletic Lab on my radar for one year before I finally joined and my only regret is not joining sooner. The facility is big, spacious, and clean. The equipment is top-notch. The coaches are friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do. Athletic Lab has given me the opportunity to finally realize my dreams of pursuing competitive Olympic weightlifting. The training is excellent. I've improved more in the 6 months I've been training at AL than in years of training at other gyms. If you're thinking about joining, don't hesitate! No other facility compares.

Have been working out here for almost 7 years, predominantly Crossfit and CrossFit Endurance classes. Good mix of classes for early birds or after work and a few lunch time offerings to most most people's schedule.
The main plus is the amount of space and top notch equipment they offer. Plenty of Olympic plates and platforms for lifts, med balls, wall balls, sand-bags. The training offered provides lots of experienced guidance under certified trainers. If you think your gym workout program is working, come try a class here to confirm it.

So almost two years ago I fell in love with Crossfit. There were times I knew it was a one-sided relationship. But I kept pushing through and we worked on our love affair. I even committed to meeting his parents, the competition WODs. Oh we were thriving. Then I got offered a new job out of town. I was for sure that our relationship could weather that storm. Crossfit is everywhere, Omnipotent even. But this move drove a wedge between us. I couldn't believe it, we were having trouble connecting in our barely 14 mo old relationship. I struggled to find a place where Crossfit and I could be together

I don't have many CrossFit reference points with which to judge against, but I can say that I couldn't be happier at the Athletic Lab ("AL"). I came in (Sept 2013) with the limited goal of improving my overall health and physique beyond the significant amount of long distance running I was doing. I now have many more goals I hope to achieve.
ADDICTIVE: CrossFit itself is an addictive training regimen / sport. The varied workouts + the chance to compete against yourself and others gives me a reason to work harder. Honestly, this aspect is the best thing you can get from

I was introduced to this facility over a year ago by a friend. I drank the Kool-aid and I love it. Staff is extremely knowledgable and attentive. They have a wide variety of programs to fit your needs. I attend the cross fit classes and have taken some if the Olympic lifting classes. my job requires a physical fitness test annually and they have helped me shave off 4 minutes from my time. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking overall fitness.

I've been training at the Athletic Lab for 6 months now and I cannot believe how much it's impacted my life. I had been working out at O2 fitness where I liked the group classes, but after a year there, the classes no longer challenged me. My fiance had joined the Athletic Lab so I tried it out with him - definitely a challenging workout! I was winded on the warm-up. I was also impressed with the attentiveness and knowledge of the trainers - they are still always giving me pointers and correcting my form. I'm probably in the best shape of my life.

The environment at Athletic Lab is nurturing and they really try to coach you versus pushing you to beat a number at the expense of proper form and your health.
Classes are held several times a day - I like the 6AM they have on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. But they also have a mid-morning class 11AM on T, TH and a Noon Class on M, W, F, and of course many evening classes - finding a compatible time won't be a valid excuse for you not to get a workout in. Bonus: Sunday's are open hours for folks to come in and just work on whatever they want.
Things I enjoy about Athletic Lab:

SO MANY GOOD THINGS TO SAY. Where to start... I bought the Groupon deal before I even moved to the area. I knew I wanted to at least try a box (I've bought deals before but never actually bought a membership.).
I called to schedule my first class ASAP. They were very attentive on the phone and set me right up. I logged in online and all the classes were full! I was really aggravated and emailed them to ask if they had any suggestions/alluded to the fact that I may just want a refund. One of the co-owners emailed back promptly and said he doubled the class sizes and trainers to accommodate

This place is AWESOME!! I love working out at Athletic Lab, they have a fitness program that can cater to every fitness level/age/ability. The work outs are challenging and you feel amazing afterwards. Not only is it fun and rewarding, but the staff really knows what they are doing. Last March I tore my ACL skiing in Jackson Hole, WY and decided not to have surgery until the end of the spring semester. I was worried that I would gain weight and loose fitness, but thanks to Dr. Young and his knowledgeable staff I've been able to continue working out and stay in shape while not causing

I first found out about Athletic Lab (AL) when they relocated to NC August 2009. I secretly stalked this place for a few months to keep up on the AL happenings (shhh...don't tell them that). I STILL STALK them but work out here as well. Some people would say I LIVE HERE!!
I started training consistently with Mike Young at Athletic Lab in October 2010 and recently was crowned the AL Pull Up Champion in January 2011!! I went from 3 pull ups (in 2010) to 8 pull ups (in Jan 2010) to 20 pullpups. STRICT PULL UPS no Kipping!! Now when I google my name Ruby Bost I actually come up. :-

I moved here from Southern California and was really worried I wouldn't be able to find a fitness program that I liked. I originally tried Life Time Fitness but it was horrible. I don' t like the huge corporate gyms that are there just to make as much money off you as possible by trying to sell you services that you don't need and by people that aren't qualified.
I found Athletic Lab and couldn't be happier. Mike Young and the entire staff is amazing. There is a good range of class times, the people are fun and encouraging and it kicks your butt!!!! Everyone works out
