The food was just okay, and I was disappointed after hearing a lot of people hype this place up, especially since it's been open for so many years. The chicken in my general Tso chicken was that basic battered kind most Chinese restaurants seem to have, and the sauce didn't have any heat at all much to my dismay. The fried rice was also just okay. I meant to order wonton soup but I'm glad I didn't as I don't think it would have been that great either.

Did you know that the good ol’ Silver Star Cafe has been servin’ up good ol’ Chinese treats ‘n’ eats in a funny little corner of a funny little midcentury strip mall on good ol’ South Flores since 1965 - that’s 57 years(!) - and that I’d never even heard of ‘em before today(!)?
Well, they have - and I hadn’t!
But let me tell you, that’s not the case anymore - that changes TONIGHT.
And now the good ol’ Silver Star is one of our very favorite new (old) eateries in all of good ol’ San Antone!
Ya know, there ain’t a whole heck of a lot of these funny ol’ (and) family

Pick up lemon chicken lunch portion today, chicken looks old and dried up. Too much breading and small amounts of chicken. Went to this location based on Yelp reviews but I would not recommend to get lunch there on a Monday since food is not fresh.

This is the freshest, most delicious Chinese food I've had in San Antonio. The service is quick, the portions are huge and the place is spotless. I can't remember having such good fried rice. I will be back!!

Hoping to find a Chinese restaurant we could depend on for good food. This is not it. Two stars because of large portions and polite service. Ordered Garlic chicken and Mongolian beef. They were edible. Not spice, bland, flavorless.

Been coming here for over 25 years and it's the bomb.com. My picky boyfriend even loves it here. Lemon chicken, three freshes, And fried fish is my go-to. Along with won-ton soup the service is great too! Great people!

Disappointed, Lacked Flavor, Coconut Shrimp was dry.
Was my first time trying this place. After reading all the good reviews I was optimistic this would become a favorite.
The coconut shrimp had almost no sauce. Lets just call it fried shrimp. It was the most expensive plate we order and was the least flavorfull. It tasted like plain fried shrimp.
The sesame chicken was just OK. It at least had flavor but it was kinda chewy, and the sauce was decent but missing something maybe more green onion, i tasted some in one bite which tasted better.
The general chicken was a little mushy, the sauce

Good fish, far from where I live at, worth the travel of its tasty flavor. Would recommend this place, it's also a Mexican food place with a Asian flavor

This place is the definition of a hole in the wall restaurant. You wouldn't see it if you pass it by, and honestly if you do it's your loss. This place has quality Chinese food at GREAT prices. The lunch menu is very cheap and you get a good amount of food and the same for the dinner. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good Chinese spot.

I would drive by this place on a daily basis and always thought it was a scary place to eat at because of what it looks like from the outside. Then I finally started reading the reviews and saw the food was good according to people who ate there. One day after church I asked my family if they wanted to try it. Well now its one of our favorite places to eat. It looks disturbing on the outside and the inside may be old, but the restaurant is clean inside and the restrooms are kept clean. The food is really good and they give good portions too. I like the sesame chicken. The noodle soup was delicious

Hidden Gem on the Southside. Recently moved out to this area and was looking for some really good Chinese food. Let me tell you this place does not disappoint. Service was awesome. Tea was the perfect amount of sweet. Tried the Kung Pao chicken and it was amazing. Also wife had to pork fried rice. It had huge chunks of pork. Amazing food and experience highly reccomend for the curious craving alittle more out of their new year. 5+ Stars

Been coming here for over 20 years. The owners have changed hands and some recipes might have changed but it's still the best Chinese restaurant in the south side. I love the hot and sour soup and beef fried rice. I always bring my friends from out of town to this local legend.

Someone invited me out here to eat lunch one day. I arrived feeling a little surprised at the run-down exterior of the building wondering what to expect. The wait staff was very polite. I ordered a fried rice dish with beef and it reminded me so much of mom's cooking! I was savoring every bite.

Talk about hole in thr wall if I've ever seen one. This place Ive passed a million times having lived in the area and never knew about this place.

Outside looking in (literally looking at the building from my car) I was a bit hesitant about eating here but I am glad I did. The food was delicious.

I ate the beef & mushroom plate and added in tofu with fried dumplings (pot stickers) for an appetizer. The portions are well worth the price and I was able to tell that nearly everything was made from scratch.

Love silver star. We eat here at least once a month and anyone on this side of town will tell you it's one of the best places to get Chinese food. Their sesame chicken is one of my favorite dishes. But I've never been disappointed no matter what I get. All the soups are awesome. The inside of the restaurant doesn't look all that nice but don't be fooled. And the service is great.
