Hairbenders, in the heart of the quaint town of Paia on the North Shore of Maui, is a fun place to get your hair cut and colored. Based on years of experience Gary and his staff are expert - like, really know what they're doing - and turn out perfectly layered, easy-to-wear cuts leaving you prepared for good hair days ahead and selfie perfection.
The vibe is warm and at the same time chill - step off of Baldwin Ave. and relax in a really freindly family atmosphere. Hairbenders also sells apparal and jewelry that Gary picks up in his travels in addition to styling products.

They take cash or credit card (Gary himself only takes cash, but there is another stylist besides him).
Gary's shop is so adorable! On left side is a gift shop & the right is where the hair magic happens!!
They do cuts, trims, highlights, full dyes!
He sometimes does walk-ins, but you should make an appointment.

Can't recommend this place enough!! Lani was so amazing -- I made the appointment a few days before when we got to Maui, as my now husband and I were eloping at Leilani Farm Sanctuary in Haiku. I wanted some curls and flowers in my hair, and Lani was simply amazing. It was super windy, but she made it work and made all the flowers stay in my hair. :) She suggested tuberose and told me where to find it (at Mana). She was so fun and cool, too, and said I could use the rest of the tuberose flowers for a bouquet which was a great idea and one I hadn't thought of. She then went and got some

This place is great! I can send my two boys over for cuts while I'm working at Hula Girl Tattoo Studio without having to worry. Gary takes care of business! I pop in to have my beard wacked every couple of months when it gets away from me and I'm in and out in no time! Although, the stylists and barbers there are pleasant enough to want to spend the day with. haha! Go get your hair done at Hairbenders in Paia! :) Aloha!

Last time around Candy was in Kihei and did a fab job on my highlights and color. Even though she's over in Paia now it was totally worth the drive to get a haircut. She is great with curly hair and had my dried out mop of hair back to their curly goodness in no time! Thank Candy - you da best! Hairbenders is a cute little place and I got a rad t-shirt for my BF and bonus - it's across the street from Mana Foods so I got my shopping in on the same trip. Win!

I was at the Hookipa Lookout when I got Maui Fever and thought to myself, I really need to shave my head. I hopped on Yelp five minutes later, saw that Hairbenders was in nearby Paia, then headed on over and was in a chair 30 seconds after walking in. The vibe was chill and friendly, the stylist Suzy Kussner was awesome, very communicative, and had great attention to detail. I was in and out and on my way to getting a sunburn at Makena Beach 20 minutes later. Yay, Hairbenders!

Hubby needed a haircut, so we popped in to this little salon in the town of Paia. Debi Janiga did a bang-up job, and the price ($35) was right on. As a former stylist, I consider myself a pretty good judge of haircutting prowess, and she definitely knew her way around a pair of shears. With 30 years of experience, she has probably never met a head of hair she couldn't tame. She told us that she also does color - so feel free to visit for some sunkissed highlights as well.
Thanks, Debi!
