Services
Wake Forest Dermatology specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of common and complicated skin conditions in people of all ages including children. Removal by excision, cryosurgery, electrosurgery or other methods of benign and malignant growth removal including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
If you are looking for an easy solution for smile lines, crow's feet, or frown lines on your face, forehead, and glabella, then Botox(R) or Dysport(R) may be the best solution for you. Over time, the movement of facial muscles will cause folds and wrinkles to form on the face. Botox(R) or Dysport(R), both highly purified muscle relaxants, when injected into the offending muscles, allow the skin to relax and the folds to soften or disappear.
Wake Forest Dermatology proudly participates in ePrescribe through our Electronic Medical Records system. If you need to refill a prescription, simply call your pharmacy. Your pharmacy will then communicate this request to our office for you, providing an efficient, safe, and streamlined approach to managing your medications and treatment.
I have been going to Dr. Matheis for a few years now. Even though you have to be proactive on future appointments and wait for a while in her office when you have appointments. I feel that the positive ways out the negatives. She is a state of art facility and truly listens to me and any concern I may have.

First review, but it was a close to perfect visit. First appointment was great. The wait time before the appointment was kinda bad but it seemed to be pretty busy. Service was great and the meet with the doctor was quick and easy.

Met with this doctor and after a quick look she diagnosed me with psoriasis. Started telling me I needed labs and should be on methotrexate. She was way wrong, went to another doctor and was a whole different diagnosis and it took longer than a glance to identify the issue. This doctor does not know what she’s doing.

As a former patient, I called to get an appointment for a checkup. That was four (4) days ago and no one has bothered to return my calls (Four so far). The administrative service at this practice is by far, the worse I have ever experienced at ANY medical practice.

SADLY here I go joining the crowd of nay-sayers who are just sick of not having their phone calls taken, waiting endlessly in the waiting room, not being cared for thoroughly, etc. Yes, they are too busy here for you. Ignore the FAN CLUB of 5-Star reviews and read the ones from patients like me who are just done. updated my post to one star. Another bill, for a visit 4 months ago. Oh, I didn't mention your insurance will never cover the inflated costs of these visits ? Over $3,000.00 billed to my insurance for a 15 minute visit - that's $1000.00 per scrape. Yikes!!

I am an 84 yo retired MD. Dr Mathias is my 3rd dermatologist in as many years. I had Dr Laurinda Queen as my dermatologist for many years and I loved her dearly. To my sorrow, she retired b/c of health issues. I was about ready to give up on an adequate replacement for her. I finally made an appt with Dr Mathias. I was ready to be disappointed, yet again. I was late for my 1st appt, a TERRIBLE way to start with a new DR.
When I was 10 minutes from the office, I got a phone call to check on me. I expected to be given a new appt.
But no, I was warmly received and the office staff were wonderful

I was seen by the Dr. on 6-3-2021. My wait time was minimal and I was happy with the Dr. . However, they never ever have answered the phone and have only returned one message out of about 7. I have yet to get any results from my biopsy. They need to be more organized. An office manager would do wonders.

I’ve been a patient of Dr Matheis for a ver long time. I am Leaving her practice because I can’t deal with how poorly the office functions. Getting through is difficult and phone calls are rarely returned unless I follow up repeatedly

I had been a patient for Dr. Matheis for a few years. I didn't mind the long waits, billing issues and prescription mix ups because I was certain she'd saved my life when, pretty much annually, she'd remove multiple "pre-cancerous" spots (but somehow could never remove all of the spots in one visit. One spot= its own visit). It wasn't until I had another dermatologist tell me how unlikely it was for her to need so much time for scrapings, not to mention the volume of removals I get per year is high. I was then asked if I was a patient of Matheis and the look I got was an "I know about her" eye

I went for the first time to Dr Mathias I was kept waiting for quite awhile which isn’t a huge deal. She looked at me and stated the type of psoriasis that I have and said she was starting me on a pill regime then she left. She was with me for 5 minutes total maybe, and I never saw her again. I had given her a list of all my medications which I don’t think she even looked at. Turns out one of the meds she prescribed doesn’t mix with one of my regulars. Then 2 she had sent to another pharmacy (3 total) and 2 of them the pharmacist said could not be taken together. I had questions about my

My son worked here part time for a few days. It only took a few days for them to 'hire someone full time'. No one bothered to tell him, he brought all of his signed 'working papers' in (he was so excited to do this, he's 17 and this was his first job (filing).

He was screened and recommended by a program at Wakefied High, so they had never seen him before the interview, where they took him around and started him working.

He's an honor student and super industrious so we are just assuming the reason he was let go so abruptly and so hurt fully. Kids have to learn

If I could leave 0 stars I would. This place is a scam. I had an 8:30am appointment, was not called back until after 9:15. Once in the room I waited another 20 minutes for the doctor to come in. I was charged $350 for the visit. I asked for an itemized receipt and was not given one, just cc receipt saying $350 on it. I called and left multiple messages (because no one ever answers the phone) asking for an itemized receipt and for someone from billing to call me back. Still to this day haven't heard back. My appointment was July 27,2020 and and now on October 14, 2020 I received another bill in

I think the Dr is good, the front desk not so much. I had two appointments on the books.. went in today only to be told that I didn't have an appointment today and I must be mistaken... blah blah.. After consulting the records I was given some nonsensical explanation that the second appointment would actually be the first and thats when I would schedule the second. know what? I'm so frustrated I can't write anymore. Cancelling appointments and switching dermatologist

Ok, so, like a dummy I'm back. 35 minutes in lobby waiting followed by 15 minutes waiting in exam room and

I have been a patient of Dr. Matheis for years. She is very good at finding even small potentially cancerous spots. That being said, 2 years ago at my yearly check up, I requested, when I made the appointment, to not just have any spots scraped for biopsy, but to please go ahead and cut out whatever might be needed to get clean margins, because my mother had a stroke and I didn't know when I'd be back in NC. During the appointment, she only did scrapes, told her my request, she said she didn't have time for the other and knew nothing about it. That was frustrating. (Background

Updated my review as of December 2019:

My husband, myself and my daughter have all been patients of Dr Matheis...my daughter was prescribed two prescriptions by Dr Matheis. Both medications were about to run out and had zero refills.

So far, I've left THREE voicemails requesting refills. No calls back and no medication refills called in.

Also, I've called Wake Forest Dermatology EIGHT times today alone... the phones go unanswered and go straight to a useless voicemail hole of despair.

I'm pissed. My daughter is out of her meds, the office doesn't even answer the phones

I am on the the fence with Dr M. I had my first appointment last week. It took me 2 weeks to get an appointment. The waiting room was full. I was taken back near my appointment time. I waited a while longer in the room. She rushed in and introduced herself. She quickly glanced at my rash and said 'oh, you have psoriasis.' She then went into a rapid fire list of supplements and creams that I needed to take (over $80 worth) and then she added 2 medications-- methotrexate and Tazorac cream. She explained that I would take 1 methotrexate pill and have a blood test done a week later

This is not my first visit with Wake Forest Dermotology, however it has been several years since my last visit. I think the office manager must have heard your reviews, because everyone I delt with was awesome! The nurse even found me some glasses to use with the bright lights since I had just come from the eye doctor and my eyes were dialated. Such great service. One elderly lady needed help getting up from the chair and the nurse was quickly willing to help. Great service from everyone involved!

Hi there folks... I had a great experience with the Wake Forest Dermatology team a few months ago. I was scheduled for an appointment and I was called back approx. 5 minutes after I arrived.

Dr. Matheis spent approx. 20 minutes with me discussing my condition and placing skin samples under the microscope as I waited in the room. She also pressured my insurance company to provide the expensive medication I needed to clear up my skin.

Having a Dr that is kind, prompt, knowledgeable, and fights FOR you is just what I wanted. I got great service and encourage you to do the same.

WARNING... Find A Different Dermatologist! HORRIBLE!!! After a six week wait for my appointment I went to their office. My appointment was a 2:30 and I arrived at 2:15. At 2:25 the lady at the front desk approached me to inform me that Dr. Matheis had a meeting get moved to my 2:30 appointment time so she could not see me and they had to cancel my appointment. NO JOKE This really happened!!!... UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE!!! And NO I didn't reschedule with them. 10 days later I had an appointment with Audrey Echt and they were great.

If you choose to see this dermatologist, please be very mindful of what your insurance will cover. I was informed that a laser treatment on my face would only cost me the $50 copay by the doctor. Because I was a little nervous about this, I called the billing person at Wake Forest dermatology later to confirm if this was accurate. She reassured me that there would be no payment other than the copay for this procedure.
Then I get a bill for an additional $170. When I call, the billing person tells me that unfortunately my insurance wanted me to meet a deductible first. I remind her that I called

I am only giving them one star because zero stars is not an option.

Over a week ago, I requested an appointment online and filled out all the online paperwork. I was referred by a friend and had heard good things. The next day, I called and left a message requesting an appointment and mentioned the urgency of why I needed an appointment, and expressed my thankfulness in any help they could give me.

I never got a call back, never got an email confirmation, nothing. I had to visit urgent care in the meantime. Have since made an appointment at a different dermatologist. It's a shame that businesses

Thought I had found a 21st century doc with a solid web presence. I made an appointment and completed all the paperwork online. Guest what? I still had to call for an appointment. Then, I get to the appointment and they tell me their system "glitched" and I will have to re-enter my medical history again. Now where in the world is my HIPAA data?! Needless to say I cancelled my appointment and will not use this organization. I urge anyone thinking about using this doc to consider how they mismanage your medical information.

I've been here twice now and each time has been quick and efficient. Dr. Matheis is professional and friendly as well. Nursing staff is as well. Each time I have overheard conversations about insurance issues, so I will advise you to have everything squared away so the waiting room doesn't have to overhear the discussion or arguments, unless you don't mind others hearing your business transacation. Other than that it is fairly quick to get an appointment and they usually run on time.
