A great pilates practice starts with inspirational trainers who understand the work. The teachers at this studio have a deep appreciation for what Pilates himself was after and translate that into their insightful instruction. It is so cool that they all work so hard in their own journeys. Students at alotapilates have a unique opportunity to grow long and strong in the classic tradition. Feel better, look better, have fun!

I was skeptical of paying for a workout that didn't make me sweat. That's the only way to tell if your body is working, right? Apparently not.
I worked with Caryn on both the reformer and the mat in private and small group sessions, and she is phenomenal. She took note of my body issues and limitations and adapted whatever movements I couldn't physically do. While I only made it into the studio maybe 10 times before moving out of town, that time made me more aware of how my body moves and what I need to do to make it work better.
The price is higher than for the more typical

I've been going to Alota Pilates on and off for quite a few years. Starting at their old location in one small room, I attended a variety of mat classes taught by Caryn and really enjoyed them. I have some body issues stemming from injury and flat feet (thanks dad) and caryn not only was respectful of them but also showed me how to modify certain stretches and sequences so as not to hurt myself or cause discomfort and also get the maximum stretch and strengthening.
This morning I went to my first mat class (we had a private "family" class with my mom, me, our friend and her daughter

Here's the scoop - the reformer (which PR person came up with that name?) classes usually have 2-3 students so you really get a lot of attention from the instructor who constantly checks to make sure you're breathing right and have the right posture. Without these two things you could do a lot of Pilates and have nothing to show for it. The classes feel close to having a personal trainer - I haven't ever had one though - who gives you exercises to do at home and helps you stretch afterward. This is based entirely on my experience with Tia.
