We are named for John Carroll, the First Bishop of the United States. He sought to build up the Catholic Church in the new nation and to highlight a particular call to civic engagement for members of the universal church. Cardinal O'Boyle, who oversaw the founding of our school in 1951, chose Carroll as our name and "pro deo et patria" as our motto.
It's hard to believe that we are weeks from the first day of school. I am both grateful and humbled to continue to serve as President of Archbishop Carroll High School. It is truly a blessing to have been afforded the tremendous opportunity to return to my alma mater to partner with you and your child as we begin a new school year.
Archbishop Carroll is a Catholic school run by the Archdiocese of Washington. As our patron saint, St. Augustine, says, "our hearts are restless until they rest in You, O Lord, " and our faith formation of students focuses on the prayer, scripture and knowledge that can provide unique comfort to students.
Archbishop Carroll High School is owned and operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. As the only archdiocesan high school in the District of Columbia, Carroll is an important education ministry of the local Catholic Church. The school is a separately incorporated entity of the Archdiocese of Washington.
