Ed is the owner and Optician of McLoughlin Family Eyecare. Originally from Brooklyn, the Mcloughlin's moved to MA and purchased our sister store, The Newburyport Optique, in October of 2001. Since then, Ed has watched his dream of caring for people's eyes brighten, opening McLoughlin Eyecare in 2003.
Ilara has over 20 years of experience in optometry. She graduated from the PA College of Optometry and completed a residency with local MD's in a busy practice (including a retinal specialist and a cataract surgeon). In addition, she was an Associates Professor at New England College of Optometry. Dr. Donarum is passionate about serving the underserved.

Kids under 18 receive lenses for FREE with the purchase of any frame, and a premium anti-reflective/scratch resistant layered treatment with new Blue-Light protection for only $50. Blue light is high energy visible (HEV) light, found in LED lights, the sun, TV, computers, tablets and cell phones. Overexposure can lead to tired eyes, headaches, insufficient visual contrast, and EYE/RETINAL DISEASE.

Uninsured grad student here. I could tell my prescription had changed over the years but had been putting off getting my eyes checked since I am uninsured, but eventually I was getting headaches from the eye strain and had to start calling around. I feel like I called everywhere in a 45-minute radius, and McLoughlin had an appointment for me in the next 2 weeks, AND had a great price for me without insurance (compared to other offices that couldn't give me an appointment for months and who were either hesitant to give me a quote over the phone or were out of my price range). I felt truly cared

Today was hands down the best experience I’ve ever had at an eye doctor. I usually put off my eye appointments as long as possible, but today totally exceeded my expectations. From start to finish every staff member I interacted with was an absolute pleasure to chat with, learn from, and get their expert eye fashion advice. The practice felt so clean, safe and welcoming and I am SO excited to get my new frames that the lovely ladies of McLoughlin Family Eyecare helped me pick out!

Staff was super friendly and took great precaution to keep everything clean and safe. Dr. Donarum explained what she was doing more than any eye doctor I have seen before. I've been to a number of eye doctors for the past 20 or so years, but this was the first time I really understood what all the measurements were and why my prescription was what it was. Highly recommend.

Very great service! Everyone from start to finish made it so seamless! This is my 2nd year and they are very personable. They have great frame options as well - excited for my new frames! They have very great covid procedures: they take your temp, make sure you wash your hands and everyone is obviously wearing a mask and they practice social distancing. Glad to recommend to anyone!

My insurance changed and I gave this place a shot, I’m so glad I did! The staff is so kind and accommodating, the office is clean and the doctor was more thorough than any optometrist that I’ve ever seen. They have a great selection of frames, were able to order my contacts to be delivered to my home, billed my insurance for me and I was all set! The office is conveniently located and the parking is free! It’s great working with a family owned business

I also rarely write reviews, but having moved from the NH area and needing a new eye doc, I'm remembering how awesome McLoughlin Family Eye Care is! Dr. Lauren McLoughlin and her staff are fantastic - so friendly and helpful. I also NEVER feel pressured into buying anything and they are 100% professional. They're not just fantastic as people, they saw me immediately when I was having trouble with my eye, Lauren quickly diagnosed me and got me to a specialist for a detached retina. I think they are reasonably priced, considering the area, but they are worth it.
