For decades, the limited capability of highly specialized cartilage to heal properly after injury has plagued the recovery of athletes of all ages and abilities. Diminished performance and even arthritis have often been the result.

Increasingly, advances in biologic therapy are allowing the use of natural substances, as from an athlete's own plasma and cells or donor cartilage grafts, modified and then re-introduced to injured areas, to promote healing in ways never before possible. This can now be accomplished by both surgical and non-surgical means.
Dr. Kelly Cunningham, Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, deals with acute, chronic and wear-and-tear injuries to the musculoskeletal system. He is committed to bringing you the finest orthopedic sports medicine care in an efficient, cost-effective manner, allowing you to get you back to your active life as quickly as possible.
OrthoBiologics is the emerging science of applying the Biology of enhanced native healing of joint cartilage & tissue to the field of Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Acute and chronic injuries of cartilage, allowing joint repair and joint healing, in both non-surgical/non-invasive and surgical settings.
The number and therapeutic quality of our cells diminishes with age. Storing your Cellular Therapy "Stem Cell" today preserves them for future therapies that combat age-related disease, and perhaps aging itself. Your young cellular therapy "stem cells" have the potential to be used in rejuvenation therapies in development.

Dr. Cunningham recently repaired my left rotator cuff and labrum. He did a great job explaining the procedure up front, performed the procedure as he described, and then followed up with great post-op / PT care and attention. While I hope to avoid a similar procedure in the future, I know I can count on him if needed.

Dr. Cunningham and staff are very knowledgeable, professional, pleasant, and efficient. He had X-rays taken and immediately diagnosed my knee issue. He explained my three treatment options; and their "Pros" & "Cons", including the expected efficacy and "Life"; of each option. I elected to start with the least invasive "PRP Injection" treatment, which was administered during that same visit. Bottom Line: I trust him.

I’ve only had one appointment so far (surgery scheduled) But I can honestly say that I really like Dr. Cunningham and his staff. He was my third orthopedic surgeon opinion after he was referred to me by a friend and also a surgical assistant. I can tell I’m in good hands.

I am a 25 year old male that came into Dr. Cunningham’s office with a SLAP tear and partial rotator cuff tear in my right (dominant) shoulder.
He repaired my SLAP tear surgically and included a PRP injection to help heal my rotator cuff. I am coming up on my 15th week post-op, just finished physical therapy. I used the physical therapist that Dr. Cunningham has in-house and she is terrific.
I began playing golf again about 11 weeks post-op with a modified swing, and at 13-14 weeks I am back and swinging normal again with little to no discomfort. At about 13 weeks I was able to begin strengthening

Dr. Cunningham, his PA, Bill, and the entire staff at Austin Ortho+Biologics we’re extremely professional and friendly. Dr. Cunningham has a very personal and consultative approach that instills confidence. I ruptured my quadricep and he explained everything to me, skillfully made the needed surgical repair and injected stem cells into my kneecap to aid in recovery. After just 3 1/2 months, I have regained my range of motion and 80% of my strength. While there is work to be done to get back to full capability, I have been well ahead of the norm throughout recovery. I attribute much of this to

Tore ACL on the ski slopes - at age 52. Dr. Cunningham carefully explained surgical and non-surgical options, and the pros and cons of each, without any pressure. At home while deciding, I fell and further injured the same knee, tearing the meniscus, which tilted the scale to surgery. I opted for ACL reconstruction with an implant, with one PRP therapy during the procedure, and meniscus repair. The surgery was performed downstairs from his office at the Arise facility -- during the pandemic -- and the facility staff could not have been more professional and Covid-safe. Dr. Cunningham successfully

Dr Kelly Cunningham is the real deal. I have been a Chiropractor for 23 years and I've referred to many surgeons. Some good and some, well.... So I don't take this review lightly. Dr Cunningham knew exactly how to proceed and was very conservative in my opinion. He didn't did do anything more or less than I would have recommended to patients myself. I had a meniscus tear that he repaired perfectly. 3.5 weeks later I was snow skiing with my kids with absolutely no pain, inflammation or stiffness. His office staff was excellent as well. They were get responsive and professional. Dr Cunningham embodies

Dr Cunningham and his very caring and talented staff helped me recover from a car accident that tore up my rotator cuff. Dr. Cunningham is a skillful surgeon and the use of my own stem cell injections and PRP injection helped speed up the healing process.

I had a shoulder injury a few months ago in 2020 and went to see Dr. Kelly Cunningham to diagnose my pain. Dr. Cunningham and his team quickly found the tendon tear in my shoulder and recommended surgery to correct the problem. I had surgery performed by Dr. Cunningham in July of 2020 and the surgery went flawlessly.
It was amazing to me that Dr. Cunningham has his doctor's office, his physical therapist, and his surgery center all in the same building making this by far the most convenient medical treatment I've ever experienced.
After the surgery I have been coming into his office weekly for

Dr. Cunningham only wants money. Cunningham and his staff are lacking in every way.

I go in for my first appointment. He tells me I need an MRI. Okay no biggie.
I wait a week never hear anything from where he wanted me to go for an MRI. So I call them. Come to find out his nurse/helper gave my name but all other incorrect information, phone number, date of birth, everything incorrect.

I go In for my second appointment he tells me my MRI shows no tears. FYI he never shows me the MRI or written results. Tells me it is my bursa sac, pushes on it hard, " does that hurt?"
Well yes but that

Dr. Cunningham treated my knee with autologous stem cells, including a special sub-chondral injection targeted at damage underneath the cartilage. The treatment was very successful, allowing me to return to running, basketball, and group fitness classes with none of the pain and popping I was experiencing before, even though I still had a torn meniscus. Dr. Cunningham is very knowledgeable of current stem cell science and worked with me after the treatment to oversee proper recovery. Great all-around experience!

I tore my ACL last spring and Dr. Cunningham got my surgery scheduled extremely quickly (even helped me schedule it around my senior prom) and made me feel like top priority- as well as was patient with me and answered all my questions thoroughly making what felt like a devastating injury to a young girl seem like no big deal after he would do surgery and I would recover.

He was right!!!! With his motivation and care I am completely healed and can do everything I was so scared I wouldn't be able to do again. Thank you for making sure a torn ACL wouldn't keep me from things I love - riding

Dr Cunningham put my leg back together, I had LCL, ACL, meniscus , and detached muscle. His PA was pretty helpful and returned my calls after the surgery if I had any questions. I was seen by a corrective postural therapist 2 weeks ago and upon evaluating my leg and learning of the extensive damage , the first thing she said was "your surgeon did an awesome job". She works with a handful of MLB and college pitchers. He had me back on a firetruck in 6 months, I have referred 2 other coworkers to him and they were just as pleased. I will be staying with him if I have other needs and will

I've been a repeat patient of Dr Cunningham's since 1997 and would never consider using a different Dr.
My trust in him has been passed on to all three of my children.
I really like the new office. No drama like other doctors offices so he had time to exam me and explain completely my problem.
Very friendly staff.

We are so disappointed with Dr. Cunnigham's business office. My husband went in for knee pain and was injected with a dye in his knee. The communication with the office was horrible. After he was injected with the dye we were told that he would have to go to an MRI center. The distance, the MRI charge the fact that the dye was only good for an hour. None of that was discussed with us. We ended up not getting the MRI and my husband was in more pain than when he went in. We called Dr. cunnigham's office immediately and complained. But even with the fact that we got zero out of this doctor

I have been a patient of Dr Cunningham since he performed my first surgery in 2010 and he, his practice, bed side manners as well as the office staff have gone completely down hill. In fact I may have been blinded to his practice before and just never knew it as we have not had one successful procedure yet. Now his new practice is all about pushing not insurance covered "stem-cell therapy" down on you and I had this instant weird "I shouldn't be here feeling" while I was there. I hope those of you reading this as deciding to try and find a true honest orthopedic surgeon

This is a review from my wife. She was very disappointed with pretty much everything.

Dr. Cunningham repaired my torn ACL in 2003 and I was pleased with my experience. Twelve years later he operated on the same knee for a torn meniscus. The second time around, I was unsatisfied with my the entire experience. Every appointment pre and post-op, after waiting for 30+ minutes after my appointment times, Dr. Cunningham spent no more than 2 minutes with me. Didn't bother to review my file or attempt to remember me prior to seeing me, so he set different expectations and said different things at

1.5 hour wait for a terrible 2 minute consultation. Dr. Cunningham did not allow me to explain my symptoms and spent about 5 seconds looking at my injury. I had several questions but he just wrote me a prescription for physical therapy and said to take care of them there. I do not recommend this physician!

I have been a patient of Dr. Kelly Cunningham for little over 5 years having to go through 2 knee surgeries. I was recommended to Austin Sports Medicine by several of my friends and others who are directly in the medical field. The staff is always courteous upon arrival and do not usually have me wait more than 15 minutes.

Dr. Cunningham has always been very thoughtful in his explanations when it comes to making the right decision befre under going surgery. I couldn't be more pleased with him and would recommend him or the other panel of Doctors at ASM to any of my friends or family, no

Surely no one gets excited about visiting the orthopedic surgeon. But I've seen Dr. Cunningham for myself and my 3 children for more than a decade, and I have been completely satisfied with him. He did my rotator cuff surgery 3 years ago and I have not had a problem since. He stresses proper rehab, does not "over treat" and is not quick to suggest surgery. His PA Pete is just fantastic; knowledgeable with a great bedside manner.

Cunningham was referred to us by another orthopedist, and he seems like a nice person, but If you have a shoulder issue do not use this doctor. He is a little cocky and operated on my daughter's shoulder without performing adequate diagnostic tests. In retrospect I wanted to believe that her injury was "routine." Several years later it was necessary for her to go under the knife a second time. Fortunately we found a surgeon that has has more experience and training. I wish I had gotten a second opinion, and I would advise anyone else to do the same.

I was referred to Dr. Cunningham by my orthopedist in SF, because I had a freshly-broken arm when I moved to Austin. Although there wasn't a lot to "do", since the arm was healing nicely, Dr. Cunningham did the follow up and referred me to a great physical therapist to improve the strength and range of motion. The fact that he's a nice guy is icing on the cake.
