For more than 20 years Dr. Scott Welsh has performed orthopedic surgery with a focus on the treatment of knee and shoulder injuries. Dr. Scott Welsh has been in the Austin, Texas community since 2007 and treats individuals of all ages and activity levels from the elite athlete to the weekend warrior.
Dr. Welsh has a reputation for providing that personal touch that so often is lost in medicine today, for educating patients about all options, and for the expertise to get his patients back to peak performance. He is also well known for being a very conservative surgeon and in most cases will try to avoid surgery when possible.

A SLAP tear is a superior labral tear anterior to posterior. The labrum is the rim of cartilage in the shoulder joint. The long head of the biceps attaches at the top of the labrum. When a patient gets a SLAP tear, the biceps tendon can continue to pull on this torn cartilage creating pain. Usually we do not attempt to repair a SLAP tear in patients older than 35 years of age.

I can't say enough to express my appreciation and gratitude for Dr. Welsh. I had a painful medial meniscus tear and Dr. Welsh did an excellent job cleaning it up surgically...beyond my expectations. He also found a smaller lateral meniscus tear while in there and cleaned it up also. He is very competent at what he does and also is genuinely concerned about his patients and really explains things well. He went over the MRI very thoroughly, not only once, but a second time the day of the surgery. He's an angel as far as I am concerned.

I appreciate the fact that Dr Welsh really took his time on my initial visit as well as every visit since then. He was so careful to explain my condition as well as my treatment options. It took over an hour and I definitely left with a sense that I would be well taken care of. He is a great listener and great at building trust with patients.
He was my second opinion Dr, and I am very grateful to my chiropractor for recommending him.
The staff is amazing as well. It is obvious everyone enjoys their job and truly cares for people. I have never had to wait for an my appt more than 5 minutes.

Dr. Welsh and his staff are awesome! Dr. Welsh takes his time at all of my appointments. I never feel rushed. He has completed three surgeries for me and on the last surgery I had an allergic reaction to adhesives. We didn’t know ahead of time of my allergic reaction to adhesives. But his nurse, on a holiday weekend, helped me get through this traumatic time! I’ve never been to a doctors office with friendlier staff! BEST EVER!

Dr. Welsh and his staff have been absolutely phenomenal throughout my experience with them. I tore my bicep while on vacation and wasn’t able to get back until midnight on a Wednesday. Suzee not only set up a time on Thursday to squeeze me in, but was even willing to get me in that Wednesday if I was able to get back. After being seen Thursday and finding out I needed surgery Suzee and Dr. Welsh pulled some strings and got me in to surgery the very next day as well as made sure everything was ironed out with my insurance. The surgery went very well. No complications. I was sent home with a very

Dr. Welsh and the entire team at Central Texas Orthopedics have been spectacular. I've seen Dr. Welsh for numerous injuries and I'm always impressed by his bedside manner and his willingness to sit and spend time with his patients educating them on their options and the specifics of the injury and surrounding anatomy. He takes a conservative yet effective approach using surgery as the last resort. Additionally, the front office staff, xray techs, etc have all been excellent. I would highly recommend this practice.

My husband and I enjoyed meeting Dr. Welsh and his lovely staff. From the moment we arrived, we felt we were in the best of hands. Everything about the visit was great. The front desk staff was kind and welcoming, on site x-rays were convenient, and Dr. Welsh was extremely kind, gentle and knowledgeable. He took his time to examine and review films with us so that we could better understand my injuries and what were the possible treatment options to begin recovery. We were more than pleased with his entire team and would recommended Dr. Welsh to anyone looking for an orthopedic surgeon.

I am a retired OR RN from a world class hospital in another state. I went there today after a visit to an ER yesterday with severe shoulder pain. The ER took no x-rays and sent me home with pain meds and told me to go to an ortho doc. They were nice enough but the care was quite incomplete. I chose to come to DOC hoping I could get a definitive diagnosis, appropriate testing, treatment and instructions. DOC delivered all of the above professionally, patiently, timely and gave me superb instructions and a follow up appointment in a few days. I couldn't ask for more. I am so pleased I read

Thank Goodness that we got a 2nd opinion from Dr. Scott Welsh of Central Texas Orthopedics. He said that my mom's shoulder is healing fine and if it was his mom or any member of his family, he would NOT recommend surgery. WE LOVE AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. SCOTT WELSH!
2 years later, my mom's shoulder is fine and she didn't have to recover from the major surgery recommended by the 1st doctor (butcher).

I dearly love this doctor - he's an excellent physician, surgeon and such a caring man. He took care of me when I fractured my (63 y/o) ankle and I'll never forget his empathy and concern throughout, especially when I wound up needing arthroscopy. I was so worried the day of surgery but he quickly alleviated my fears with his warm bedside manner and his, what I knew would be, capable hands. I'd go back to him in a heartbeat and have already recommended him to others. All you need to do is read reviews here to know that outcomes under Dr. Welsh's care are excellent and that he

When I injured my knee and was told by my family Dr. that I would probably need surgery, I went to see Dr. Scott Welsh. Dr. Welsh was very straight forward and honest with me. Together, we reviewed my MRI and weighed all my options. He did say there were alternatives to surgery, but with my injury it would be a painful walk down therapy road, and I would probably be back at the end of it. I trusted him, and I am glad that I did. My surgery went very smooth and he was with me through every step of my recovery. Dr. Welsh is very smart and his bedside manner is excellent.

Dr. Welsh and his staff are top-notch healthcare professionals who realize that personalized patient care is extremely important. I tore my ACL and did not know of any Orthopedic Surgeons. A hospital staff member provided me with Dr. Welsh's information. Dr. Welsh repaired my ACL and has fixed 3 other joint issues I've experienced in the last 4 years. I am always allowed to spend as much time as I need with Dr. Welsh. He answers my questions in a way that I can understand. He takes a "whole body" approach to solving problems and does not immediately resort to surgery even though

Dr. Welsh is awesome!!! My son play tennis and trains four hours a day. Because of this, he is usually dealing with an injury! We brought him to Dr. Welsh after going to five other orthopedic surgeons in Austin. The great thing about Dr. Welsh and his office staff is that when I call for my son, it is usually over something important where he needs to be seen fairly quickly. I have always gotten in within a few days. Also, I like how he is conservative with his treatment plans, only pushing surgery when all else has failed. Also, having some sort of un-diagnosed form of ADHD, it KILLS me

Went to Dr Welsh for a second opinion on my knee injury. He confirmed the first doctor's finding. Being an athletic person I really appreciated his sports background and his knowledge of progressive techniques. He spent a lot of time explaining the injury and treatment plan to me. Unlike the first doctor he made sure I really had my questions answered and focused on my concerns. Cool guy, great personality and couldn't been happier with the outcome. Two little holes you can't even see anymore and no stress from start to finish. I highly recommend this dude if you are looking
