Thirteen years ago, I met Angela. I had spondylolethesis L4-L5, L5-S1, disc bulge and nerve impingement. I was treated conservatively, aka back rest, no surgery for eight weeks. My orthopedic surgeon suggested Pilates to strengthen my back. Luckily I had a Pilates studio two blocks away from where I lived. Angela met me, listened to my back problems and designed a program to help strengthen my core muscles ( think stomach to back), to rebuild my back. Several years later, Angela started her own PilatesWorks, with her former partner, Lucero, who last year, moved to Portland. Angela is a great

An update...
It is important to know that Angela and Lucero studied under the true Masters under Joseph Pilates. Don't be fooled by any old place with "Pilates" in its name. Make sure that the teachers are properly trained and understand what to do and WHY. Angela and Lucero of Pilates Works do. And THAT is what makes the place so special.
Another plus: the studio is intimate and quiet.

There is a reason this studio receives so many 5 out of 5 star ratings. I have been taking Pilates from Angela for the past 9 years (!) and am one of her many long term clients. I have also taken make up classes with Lucero and she is fantastic too!

So why do I recommend this studio...I used to have pain at the base of my neck which would "lock" if I did something like look under my bed, sleep funny, or scrunch my neck. It was very painful and I could barely move my head. Since seeing Angela, that pain disappeared and never came back - my body just feels stronger and more aligned

This is a long overdue review for the PILATES WORKS studio. I have been coming here for 3 years now and I have to say that they changed my life and career completely! I have tried other pilates studios that I found through Yelp prior to coming here. In spite of nice enough teachers and the feeling of work-out, I wasn't totally satisfied and started doubting if pilates workouts were suited for me. I tried about 3 different teachers. One day, one of my colleague suggested me to try the Pilates Works studio and he said that he had been improving so much faster just by working with them. I am

I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Lucero at Pilates Works the past three years. I leave my sessions feeling fabulous -- fit, toned, and refreshed. Lucero and Angela teach authentic Pilates, and they are fantastic teachers who are passionate about their work and incredibly knowledgeable about the body. I had no Pilates experience when I started and, now that I am more advanced, Lucero challenges me with a different workout every week tailored specifically to my body. Lucero and Angela are not the type of teachers that just sit back and let their students go threw the motions

The trainers/ co-owners Angela and Lucero of Pilates works are fantastic! Both were trained in the authentic teaching of Joseph Pilates. They tailor each workout to fit the client, making sure to strengthen problem areas, and rehab injuries. I have heard so many people say they were hurt doing pilates- that is probably because they are working with someone that has not been trained properly or someone that is not an observant professional.
I have many old injuries from my gymnastics days, and have been able to rehabilitate my spine as well as neck and shoulders. I can't recommend them

This is not your run-of-the-mill studio where you get run through a routine. Lucero customizes different excercises for my needs and pays very close attention to my alignment. She is amazing at explaining how you should feel when you're doing the excercise correctly, and offers plenty of adjustments. I have minor scoliosis and can't say enough about how she has helped me improve posture, and reduce shoulder and back pain. While the sessions are almost like physically therapy for me, there're noticeable results in toning up upper arms, abs, buns and thighs as well.
