I graduated from Punahou School and completed both my undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Washington. In dental school, I was awarded the Ferrier Memorial Prize by the American College of Dentists. Following graduation, I accepted a professor position at the University of Washington School of Dentistry and taught courses on dental implants and restorative dentistry.

Dr. Takai , his partner and team are simply exceptional. It is not that they both attended one if the 5 best dental schools Globally and the dental school continually ranked #1 or 2 in the USA for decades...(the University of Washington, in Washington State) ,,,,ALTHOUGH that certainly should be a factor when choosing any dentist or physician, because not all schools are equal!

My visits are always met with upbeat vibes from the entire staff and both doctors. I'm stoked to get my dental needs met in a timely manner, the doctors have seen me for immediate situations and we have been scheduling well in advance for "tune ups". The dentistry is current and the products are excellent quality. I feel very comfortable telling friends to visit Dr. Takai's office.

I've been deathly afraid of seeing a dentist from my elementary school days, putting it off for years at a time. Now in my 50's, I'm paying the price.
By researching throughly, I saw such great reviews for Dr. Takai, that I took the chance. I've never been so grateful & happy in my decision. He & his staff have answered every silly question I pose to calm me, & they put me at ease with every visit.

Amazing! Friendly staff, super friendly staff. Always making sure just thought your Health comes first. Even when you want something different done. They try to navigate you in the right direction of dentistry. I am very grateful for their services. Also their COVID-19 protocol is top notch and I would recommend them to any family member.

There's a reason for all these 5 star reviews & that's because the team over there are awesome! Masami & Lauren are both so friendly, very thorough & meticulous in their work & the results from my routine cleaning were excellent, real noticeable difference. Plus, they were a pleasure to be around, which is not something you usually associate the dentist chair with. Also they made great recommendations for my care & didn't try to convince me to do things I didn't need. Thank you both!

I haven't been to the dentist since the pandemic started and finally felt comfortable enough to go. It was the perfect time to switch to a new one in a more convenient location. I googled/yelped and found their office last week and was able to book an appointment for mid-July. I asked if I could be put on the waitlist, and I was able to get in a couple days later. Toni made the whole process so seamless! I loved that I was able to fill out all the necessary new patient forms online. She even made sure to explain the location of the office, which is across from longs Kahala.

My childhood dentist in Kaneohe retired, so I had to find a new dentist once I developed a toothache so horrible that I stopped chewing anything solid/hot/cold on the left side of my mouth during this quarantine just to avoid the mind numbing migraines that resulted...

Everyone is always professional and pleasant. On this visit, Masami was my hygienist, explaining very thoroughly how to correctly care for my teeth and gums. Dr Lauren did the exam and let me know about some old fillings that are going to need to be replaced.Toni, at the front desk took care of all of the business aspects and helped schedule my next appointment. Again, everyone made the experience of having my teeth cleaned and the routine exam a pleasant experience.

I've had wonderful experiences with both Dr. Takai and Dr. Weiss. Been going to Dr. Weiss consistently now for over a year and she's gone above and beyond to make sure that I'm satisfied. She does her best to ensure that her clients are satisfied with the final product and if you're not she'll gladly fix any issue to satisfy you.
The dental hygienist Masami is amazing, always giving tips to keep your teeth in the best condition. Christine went out of her way to help me with my whitening program.

Confession: Prior to my last visit, I hadn't been to the dentist for almost 3 years. My previous dentist stopped accepting HDS, and they moved further away. I'm a bit of a snob about my teeth because I've never had a cavity, braces or any problems with my teeth. What an experience at Derek Takai's office. From the moment that I walked in, I was greeted right away by two perfect smiles from Cherene and Toni.
Christine who is my usual hygienist is the absolute best so far. But today another hygienist helped me out and her name was Cyn. She was also very professional. I highly recommend Derek Takai's office for dental and cleaning work.
Overall I would rate this business 10 stars if it had that option. Speed, efficiency, courteous and friendly. I felt like family there.
