This is a special place, the kind you remember, but can never find. By the Way Bakery is an old-fashioned bakery where everything is made by hand, from scratch, in small batches. And, by the way, all of our baked goods are gluten-free and dairy-free. They're also certified kosher. Most important, everything we make is as delicious as - if not better than - most conventional baked goods.

I walked in and grabbed one of the small apple donuts. I ate it in the park and was very happy with the selection. It had a strong flavor of apple & cinnamon. I could not tell that it was gluten-free. While not a personal concern, it does provide a number of options to those who do need to watch out for that.

A godsend for us gluten-free folks. I wouldn't know they don't use dairy if they didn't tell us. The gluten-free almond biscotti are my favorite. And I adored the (slightly pricey, but worth it as a treat) linzer torte I had on my last visit. My chocolate loving wife couldn't resist devouring her schnibble all in one go it was so good. The kiddos enjoyed their pumpkin bundt cake and only shared a tiny delectable crumb with me!

We just had a wedding and had By the Way Bakery amazing wedding cake and treats.
Helene did a great job helping my daughter with her wedding cake design, and worked with our wedding planner to coordinate pickup for the wedding and next day brunch.
The cake was PERFECT; and the cake and treats DELICIOUS. Gluten-free and non-gluten free guests enjoyed everything!

Absolutely amazing gluten free and dairy free bakery products. They don't advertise as Kosher but all their products are certified kosher. They achieve the near-impossible task of selling bakery products that are great tasting also to those that don't need gluten free. Very highly recommend to anyone with celiacs in the family or hosting people with celiac.

Absolutely delicious gluten free bakery! I always stop here for goodies for my dad, who must stick to a gluten free diet. I have tried many treats, but today I picked up a birthday cake. It was sooo good, perfectly moist and not overly sweet. These bakery treats are not just “good for gluten free.” They are spectacular!

If you only get food at one place in NYC, this is it (not a sit down cafe, btw). Found this place online and figured we'd check it out while in town, and grab breakfast for the duration of our stay as well because our hotel didn't have gluten free options. The only regrets we had were not getting more items and not having a By The Way bakery to go home to. Strongly recommend the almond cookies, the tart cherry muffins, lemon poppy seed muffins, brownies, and lemon tarts. Carrot cake (pictured) was moist and fluffy and we had plenty to share.
