Hayward Mortuary was started by Charles "Truck" and Edith Machado in 1935. Together they served the Hayward community not only with their funeral home but with the first ambulance company in Hayward. They raised four sons: Pat, Bob, Rich and John Machado. Pat and John followed in their parents footsteps working in the family business.

John grew up in and around the family mortuary business in Hayward and is a licensed funeral director, embalmer, and crematory manager with over 49 years of experience in the funeral industry.John was manager of Hayward Mortuary, Machado's Hillside Chapel and Bay Area Crematory. He has also dedicated over 40 years as a volunteer for the city of Hayward.
