Jim has a B.S. in Business Administration and has been in the construction industry for over 40 years. He began by building houses then shifted to the electrical field. He worked as an electrician for 23 years and earned his Master Electrician certification. In 2012, Jim became a certified home inspector.
We here at JMS Inspection Services are a full-service inspection company and we are privileged to serve you. As part of this service, when you schedule an inspection with us we contact the agents on your behalf and set up the inspection at a convenient time for you. All you will have to do is show up at the end of the inspection to go over our findings and do some paperwork.
We moved into our home in Ankeny last fall. It is a 2 story home, built in the 90s. Jim performed a very thorough inspection and checked for potential concerns with the age of the home. He reviewed his findings with us immediately after the inspection, and followed up promptly with a very detailed report.
Our Home Inspections are designed to be thorough - very thorough. As such, there is more that we inspect during a home inspection than can really be included here on our website. We look at thousands of items and countless different conditions. As we look into the details of your home, there are more scenarios and potential issues than most would expect - which is why we work so hard to be the best at what we do.
When buying a home, testing for radon is a critical step. According to the EPA, radon kills more people every year than drunk drivers and house fires - combined! The EPA states that the entire state of Iowa is considered at high risk for radon gas in homes. About 8 out of 10 homes in the Des Moines area have high levels of radon, so it is important for everyone to test their home.

Jim did the inspection on my home as I was selling it. While his inspection seemed thorough, there were some issues I noted upon my return home after it's completion.
I found that he had broken the kitchen faucet (and then written it up on the report as requiring repair). In addition there were several support beams in the attic that had been broken that it appears he attempted to use as a ladder to view some small holes that had been there since the structure was built - he did not mention at all that he had broken/damaged the support beams in his attempt to review these.
