As the cost of healthcare has continued to rise, we recognize that practicing medicine in a cost conscious manner can dramatically benefit our patients. In the relationship between a patient and surgeon, there is an often unspoken "contract" that implies a level of trust and confidence. For many years, the medical community worked under the assumption that blood transfusions were beneficial to patients.
Knee arthritis, where there has been irreversible damage to the cartilage within the knee joint itself. Occasionally, knee pain will present as what is known as "referred" pain - this means that although the mind senses that the knee is hurting, the actual cause of the knee pain is not the knee itself.
Hip and knee replacement surgery involve replacing the worn-out bone and cartilage lining your hip or knee joint with new implants that are composed of materials such as ceramic, metal and plastic. The materials used for hip and knee replacements are quite similar. Over the last two decades, the number of total hip replacements being performed each year has steadily increased in the United States.
Increasing awareness of metal allergies has raised concerns within the orthopaedic field for our patients receiving joint replacement implants. While statistically it is unlikely that a patient will have an "allergy" to one or more of these materials, it is more common than once thought. Hypersensitivities to nickel may be present in up to 15% of the population.

Dr. Kaper is incredible. He is personable, warm, and caring. He is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. Many doctors I know have told me they would ask him to do their knee surgery. My 48-year bone on bone pain was gone 1 hour after the surgery (when I woke up). Slowly, my recovery took place, but now after one year, I am hiking 2 hours four times a week, with longer hikes interspersed. I was not able to hike more than 4 miles for many, many years before that because of extreme pain. I feel like I now have a new lease on life. It is exciting! I am so very grateful!

My Journey began in 2018 I had a knee replacement done in Tucson,Surgery went well did my PT all seemed OK but my knee kept hurting. Fast forward a year( they won’t do anything the first year ) still pain I did genicular injections I did sympathetic nerve block injections still pain in my knee and now also my whole body was hurting and I was miserable. Finally we did special blood work sent to Chicago and it was the nickel in the implant that I was allergic to that was making me sick. My surgeon and also another surgeon we went to for a second opinion did not believe in nickel allergy so I researched

I called to schedule an appointment and had to leave a message which was returned a week later. I explained my history and advised I had my medical records. I was sent out for an updated x-ray. During my appointment the physician was pleasant and listened to my history. I told him I wanted to have my knee replaced by the end of my plan year (May) which was only a month away because I had met me deductible already. He told me my plan would most likely not approve the surgery without physical therapy. I was

The office staff and MA were organized, efficient and friendly. I was seen very soon after I got there and didn’t have to wait. The PA was knowledgeable and nice. Dr. Kaper was very competent and quickly figured out that I had tendonitis in my knee and wrote a script for PT. I was super relieved to hear that my knee replacement was fine. My thanks to the whole bunch!!

Most awful doctor experience I ever had. Called to make an appointment for severe knee pain. Told he wouldn't see me until I had an x-ray. Took a week to get an x-ray. The another week to get an appointment. Told the x-ray didn't show anything and I should make an appointment for an MRI. Took a week to get an MRI. Called doctors office to tell them my MRI was done a week ago but no one answered the phone, so I left numerous messages. I never heard anything. Office wouldn't pick up their phone or return phone calls. Finally got a call 2 weeks later and they said I would have to wait a month to see

With all respect for the other Orthopaedic surgeons in the Valley, Dr. Kaper is the best! I walked into the North Valley Surgery Center at 8:30am and walked out with a brand new hip at 2:20pm. A week later, I’m off the walker and being careful, but able to walk as needed. It’s an absolutely amazing recovery process!
I want to thank Dr. Kaper, Andrea and Ali for taking such good care of me during my surgery!!! I highly recommend talking to Dr. Kaper if you need a hip replacement!!!

Dr. Kaper replaced my knee this past February. The results were remarkable...I was on my way to an outstanding recovery. Then exactly 4 weeks later I ruptured my quadriceps tendon during a physical therapy appointment, this was recognized immediately and I was back to surgery within days to repair this. Once again the repair was very successful and I couldn't ask for a better recovery. I'm just about where I should be.
I'm so happy with Dr.Kaper and his staff, I would recommend his expertise to anyone that's contemplating a knee or hip replacement. Thanks Dr. Kaper.
