We're thrilled to announce that we've taken our successful hybrid historic hotel/hostel model to the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. This sister property is located at the site of the 80-year-old Bingen School in Bingen, Washington, and welcomes adventurous travelers exploring the surrounding Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
At The Society Hotel, we believe in making every traveler feel authentically connected to our community so they are ready to enjoy our beautiful city from day one. We offer three ways to experience our unique hotel: bunk rooms for the affordable community experience; private rooms with shared bathrooms for comfort without excess; and suites for a bit of affordable luxury.
As the only hostel-style lodging in downtown Portland, we're honored to continue welcoming travelers from all over the world to our bunk room. Come meet and explore downtown Portland with fellow adventurers, digital nomads and new friends. Our 3-level shared sleeping arrangements feature much more space than you'd expect!
Enjoy your own private sanctuary with a dash of community in a private room with shared bathroom facility. For our guests seeking the full hotel experience while still capturing that sense of community found in old-world lodging houses, our standard rooms make ideal accommodations.

Standard rooms feature full and queen bed options for a restful stay, includes a sink and vanity, and a shared bath one might expect to find in a European boarding house.Spread out with a bit more space for yourself and your own private bathroom in one of our private suites. Traveling with your best friend?
The beating heart of The Society Hotel is its lobby, where you will find the Society Cafe, a lounge, cafe, and bar, featuring fresh pastries, coffee and beer from some of Portland's finest. All food menu items are made fresh by our cafe staff. Explore the best that the northwest region has to offer with our rotating selection of coffee roasters, wines and beers on tap.

This review is for the cafe. The food is fantastic and the staff even more so. The ambiance and vibe is just right! Lush fabrics and a cozy fireplace. Lunch here is a treat. I want to especially mention Chris the new manager in the cafe. He was super helpful with an issue I had with a gift card. This man knows customer service and The Society Hotel is lucky to have him. Thanks for a great experience. I highly recommend this establishment!

Honestly loved my stay here. The staff was friendly, it was really clean, and very nice over all. I took off one star just because I had no idea the area would be like it was. I never felt unsafe but I didn't feel comfortable walking around at night by myself. There's plenty to do in walking distance during the day, though.

My friend and I stayed for a night, and it was perfect. Cute and cozy rooms, incredibly clean bathrooms and quite possibly the friendliest staff in Portland (special shout-out to Edward). The rooftop deck is the perfect place to drink some coffee and take pictures. If you can't appreciate the little things don't go, understand that this is a place for people who care about a fun and unique experience. This isn't a Marriott or motel 6, and that is what makes it amazing.

Stopped in for some beautiful and delicious food on our way from Lyle to Hood River. It was exactly what I was craving: a fresh, veggie-forward brunch. We had both of the toasts (one with gf bread) and a yummy breakfast salad, matcha tea and their special honey cinnamon latte. We sat outside on picnic tables to enjoy it all. Look forward to returning as hotel guests!

This was my first experience in a hostel. I was somewhat nervous but when I arrived I was able to relax. The customer was ok...I expected a little more upbeat but I guess you can't have everything. I was able to check my back in before check-in (this was great because I didn't have to lug it around as I explored the city). I was told to come back around 2 and my bunk may be available...it was. I was given a tour and explained all the house rules. The bathroom were clean an could only be used with a hotel key. The key also gave you access to the rooftop...which was really nice. You

My spouse and I got a room here for their birthday. I was a little bit skeptical about it, considering it's really just a room w/ a bed. But I can't tell you how much I enjoyed our quiet, comfortable night in this room. The king size bed was great. There's a fan. There's black out blinds. It's just a great place for quality time and zoning out with a person you love.

Also, the rooftop is a cool place to hang out. And the shower had great water pressure.

Super cute hotel with a bar and cafe downstairs and a gorgeous rooftop deck. The rooms are really tiny with private bathrooms in the hall that are kept very clean. there's a shower and a hairdryer! Our room has a single queen bed and a sink and that's about it. It's really tiny but it's sooo cute. The shared bathrooms in the hall create real hostel vibes. My boyfriend and I came downstairs for the bar happy hour (4-6pm) for $1 off drinks before going out to dinner. Really good area with lots to do and places to eat. There's only street parking and paid lots. Since we aren

Great place to relax after exploring in the Gorge. The pools are very clean and refreshing, and so are the rooms. I will be back. The cafe has delicious food and coffee, and is not outrageously priced.

The Cafe/Bar is very quaint here. Small dishes of pastries are available and they have beer on tap as well as some wines. They do have a rather large table that can accommodate a big party of 20. Nice little week day getaway to get to the soaking pools.

The only thing preventing me from giving The Society 5 stars is the large homeless population literally camped on the front sidewalks, which is not the fault of the hotel, but it does detract from it's charm.

Beautifully redone suites, decor, and rooms. Very simple, clean, and relaxing. Stayed in a suite with a private bathroom, but the communal bathrooms are equally as nice and spacious.

Staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and professional. Great coffee in the morning and cocktails at night, both enjoyed on the rooftop social area.

A classy café option on the Washington side of the Mid-Columbia. Cappuccino was 4/5, but the food and ambiance tipped it to 5/5, especially given the local competition.

Rustic-Scandinavian style hotel, recently renovated from a school that still retains elements of its school charm (hallway of lockers). Outdoor private cabins with hammocks; indoor private rooms and 2 large dorm rooms with a shared common area. Also a cafe/lounge on-site!

Love this place. I come here every year and I the staff are friends in my head lol. I also ran into some great random people there too, at the hang out deck on the roof top. It's always clean and the staff is always so friendly and accommodating. I usually see at least one staff member around the clock and that makes me feel secure. The simple food they make is delicious and the morning drinks are on point. It's close to everywhere I have to go and the train is close by, which I usually take back to the airport if you didn't want to spend the money on an Uber/Lyft. I think it&apos

This is such a special place! I was also really impressed by the food and drinks that the café made through out the weekend. We enjoyed lattes, fresh breakfast dishes, sandwiches and delicious cocktails. All the staff were helpful, friendly and the atmosphere was peaceful.
Unlike your typical hotel chain, this hotel is uniquely designed with lots of comfort and beauty. We stayed in a cabin with a king bed and our kitchen was stocked with everything needed to make our own food and tea. The spa has gorgeous architecture, a giant sauna, saltwater tub, cold plunge and hot tub.
We felt deeply nourished

"Secret:" go here any time of the day but especially early evening/night and buy a warm drink when cold or an iced drink when warm and go to the very top, the rooftop, to see the views! This hotel is super nice with really great staff. They even had blankets out for use because it was chilly when I came there. Good coffee drinks, a really cute downstairs with fire place but the coolest part is the top of the building. Next time I come to Portland I'd like to stay here!
As for the hotel: I haven't stayed here yet but the prices seem low to moderate. $120 for a private room during

We stopped by this cute spot to check out the rooftop -- it was well worth it! The rooftop is fairly small, so wouldn't recommend coming with super large groups. However, did love it and would love to be back with a friend or two. I got one of the rotating ciders on tap, the swift marionberry cider! It was the perfect amount of sweet and tart and was well worth the price!

This place was amazing for the great price. We got a private room with our own bath, so can't vouch for the bunks or rooms without ensuite, but we really enjoyed our stay. The bar/coffee lounge in the lobby has a great assortment of beer, wine, cider, mixed cocktails, etc. and the cozy rooftop space was a real pleasure as well. Everyone on staff was really helpful and supportive as well. There is a good parking lot just a couple of blocks away but no on-site parking. Really central to so much of downtown Portland, right across the street from Darcelle's(if you want to see the Guiness
