We specialize in sports medicine and have state of the art treatment for small children and adolescents with athletic injuries. North Jersey Pediatric Orthopedics provides pediatric and adolescent patients with top quality care for injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. For the past 25 years we have been treating injuries that result from competitive sports to playing in the backyard to congenital disorders.
The health of children and teenagers is our priority. We always take the time necessary to get to know our patients so we can provide them with the best possible treatment. Dr. Avella is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who is based out of Ridgewood, NJ. He has been practicing orthopedic surgery for over 30 years and was recently named Section Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics for the Joseph Sanzari Children's Hospital at Hackensack Hospital.

Services
A child's musculoskeletal system undergoes many changes during the maturation process. Pediatric treatment often differs from what General Orthopedists would suggest for adults. Pediatric orthopedists have a greater knowledge of growing bones and the complex issues that occur early in a child's development.
Foot maladies are among the most common issues that affect children and teenagers because of the complexity of the foot's structure. Since many ankle/foot maladies prevent a child from participating fully in their daily routine, we aim to get kids back on their feet as soon as possible so they can walk and run with ease.
Fractures are very common in children. Because of a child's growing bones and growth plates, it is important that their fractures are treated correctly. Children's bones have an amazing capacity for healing. Even when bone is not injured it is constantly in a state of turnover, continually absorbing and replacing the cells that make up our bones; because of this natural turnover, the process of healing bone also comes quite naturally.
Dr. Avella is not only an excellent orthopedist but a caring and kind person who feels the pain of the child who walks into his office. In the summer of 2011 our daughter fell off the monkey bars and sustained a serious elbow fracture. To make matters worse, it was already late in the evening, but Dr. Avella waited for us past closing time.
He had a birth defect called Myleomengicele Spina Bifida with Hydrocephalus. Days after Ryan's birth we saw doctors, nurses, psychologists and genetic counselors, and a at one point a social worker suggested that we institutionalize him because he would most likely be in a vegetative state for most of his life.

Had an appointment called and left a message to cancel then got a bill of 40.00 bucks even as a first time patient. I called saying they never got anything which was a lie. Told the rude receptionist that shouldn't have to pay bill she said nasty then don't pay it. FRONT DESK IS RUDE AND WILL NOT PAY THIS BILL

Most medical offices when they make an appointment ask for patients insurance info so they can verify coverage before the day of appointment. This place collected the info but never verified and even told my wife that we were covered. Only until after we received a bill for over $300 did they say we're not covered. When I contacted the office they said we had to verify in network status before we came in and that they're not responsible eventhough their office staff told us we were covered.
We been going to different drs office for years and all of them would let us know if there was an issue
