It all began in 1884 with John T. Collins who opened a storefront Funeral Home at 59 Park Avenue, Rutherford. His deep desire was to be on the forefront of professional funeral service. For example, in 1904 he was the first to offer a "motorized hearse" service to the New York and surrounding area.
After 20 years, Nelson (John T.'s son) assumed responsibility in 1924. He expanded his business and built the "first full service funeral home" in Rutherford on Lincoln Avenue, across from the the town's center of community activity the triangle open area called "Lincoln Park".

Their commitment to the community and genuine compassion toward families are but a few of the characteristics that make them outstanding in their field.
When it comes time to care for a deceased loved one, you may feel overwhelmed and confused about the next steps and options. Our funeral home staff members are here and ready to help. Obituaries act as quiet reminders of the finite nature of our lives. Yet, for those who have recently experienced the death of a family member or friend, an obituary means so much more. It is a bittersweet reminder of all we've lost, but it can also help us to remember all we enjoyed while they were alive.
G. K. Chesterton wrote, Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of readiness to die. The men and women who served in the armed forces, whether during a time of war, or one of peace, are living examples of that contradiction. Each should be honored and remembered, so that our gratitude never fades.
To help you understand funeral costs we have prepared an outline of the categories that make up a funeral account. There are basically four sections that make up a funeral account: casket & merchandise selections, professional service charges, cash disbursements and taxes on applicable items.
To help consumers, legislation states that all funeral homes must provide an itemized price list of all of their related professional service charges as well as casket and merchandise charges. This list must be available at the consumers' request without cost or obligation.

The service that me and my family had with Calhoun Mania was outstanding. I was amazed at the beauty and warmth of the funeral home; it didn't feel like a funeral home. It felt like home. They take pride in what they do and it shows. They made the whole process very smooth and were patient and kind throughout the entire process. Not once did they ever try to "upsell" merchandise or any upgrades for service. Their top concern was about our comfort through our time of grieving. Anything we needed, they were there for us; ready to answer any questions or concerns we had. Debbie always checked in with

Angelo, Debra, and the staff at Calhoun-Mania are such genuine and comforting people to work with. Unfortunately, my family had two major losses in the matter of 2 months. Both experiences were made easier and a little less terrible because of Debra and Angelo. They took care of everything for us. They called the church and the cemetery. Reminded us of different things to do during this stressful time. But, also joked when we needed a laugh. They were meticulous in the details and honestly helped get us through one of the most difficult days of my life. They called us back within minutes whenever

As always, Angelo, Debbie and their staff did an outstanding job with our father’s arrangements and services. They were comforting, caring and respectful during our difficult time, and so gracious with our family and guests. They made something that is very hard as easy as possible for us, and we are grateful to them for their commitment to us and the Rutherford Community.
