At Marin MMA we tend to teach in a relaxed and less rigid atmosphere than traditional Martial Arts. Nonetheless, martial arts academy rules are set in place to maintain a positive environment that is both conducive to learning and welcoming to potential students, we require our students, parents of students in the kids' classes, and staff to adhere to the following Dojo Etiquette and Rules.

From his inspirational and life mentoring "mat chats" to his absolute conviction of the success of his students in competition settings, Mikyo Riggs applies himself to his school with a full heart.
Marin Mixed Martial Arts offers outstanding classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts, and Yoga. This is not your typical corporate gym or chain Martial arts school. Marin MMA is my second home. Professor Mikyo has taught me strength, discipline, loyalty, dedication and most important of all awesome JuJitsu. If you're looking to compete, sharpen your skills or to learn a new sport, then I highly recommend this gym. You will be learning moves from one of the best original pioneers of the game. See you on the mat!

The Best of Marin is Marin MMA. What a gift to our families and community to have the level of professionalism, dedication, and caring that Mikyo Riggs brings. Great to be back in person where you really feel like you are growing! Thanks Mikyo!

Joining Marin Mixed Martial Arts has been one of the best decisions of my life; I truly wish I had been aware of them when I was younger! The community Professor Mikyo Riggs fosters in the school and the classes he provides not only makes every day of training amazing but also has brought me closer to each and every one of my training partners. This familial aspect of Marin MMA has made every class the highlight of my day and I truly can't recommend it enough!

Whether you are new to bjj or looking to develop your game, Marin MMA is by far the best option in the area. The instruction is top notch and the community is dedicated and welcoming. I do both the striking and bjj classes and love them both. If you are considering joining, don't hesitate, just come on down!

Marin MMA has quickly become one of my favorite places in California. Not only is the instruction top notch and expertly done, but the people are absolutely fantastic. As a woman starting in Jiu Jitsu, I was immediately nervous about being part of a male-dominated sport. This has completely changed for me. Mikyo and the people at Marin MMA have become my second family. I feel like I can trust them, be myself, and learn this life-changing martial art in a setting that is safe and respectful. They push me and challenge me to be better, improving my skills at a rate I could not imagine when I first

Mikyo Riggs is an excellent instructor and has great retinue of other instructors for both the BJJ and Kickboxing classes. I have been training martial arts for nearly five years at various academies and the culture at Marin MMA is the best around. They provide a perfect blend of encouragement for beginners and an advanced level of detail for intermediate and advanced fighters. The owner, Mikyo, created a culture built on respect for those around you regardless of where they are in their martial arts journey and you can feel it as soon as you step foot on the mat. The mood is always light and the coaches are great at improving the small details. Whether you are debating trying martial arts for the first time or if

I have trained here for 8 years now. There is so much I love from the teachings and training to the people. The place has built a community to where a good number of us not only train together but also hang out. Mikyo is very knowledgeable and very detailed with his teachings. He has great care in his students, that's why he is family to me now. Although I have been training at MarinMMA for 8 years, the truth is I started training with Mikyo 20 years ago before he had MarinMMA and he is the reason I started BJJ.

I joined Marin MMA just after moving into the area 4 years ago. The instructors and members were very welcoming. MMA Marin is a family oriented martial arts school with high level instruction for both adults and kids. We train hard and the instruction is disciplined but the classes always have a positive vibe. I've made some good friends here since moving into the community. It's a home away from home.

Marin MMA is awesome! It makes staying in shape fun again. I came here for the kick boxing but liked the jiujitsu so much that I ended up putting all my available time into that instead. There is definitely something for everyone whether you are just looking for an intense workout or you want to fight MMA. Mikyo is very knowledgeable and obviously has a life time of experience at a high level of jiujitsu and mma. It would be difficult to find a more experienced teacher. When I first considered joining I was a little worried it might be one of those macho tough-guy type of environments but it wasn

I have been a member of Marin MMA for four years and it is one of the best martial arts studios I have ever been to. The people there are so kind and welcoming; the instructors and staff are like a second family to me. Mikyo Riggs is wise beyond his years and I am truly honored to be his student. I look forward to coming back from college and training on the mat whenever life gives me the opportunity. The lessons that I have learned and the people whom I have met--I know--I will never forget. If you ever get the chance to come down to Marin MMA, and check it out for yourself, you won't regret

Similar experience to Byron's review below... Love that they offered him a free month when he doesn't like the business lol.
Anyway, speaking from personal experience, billing practices are shady af. I joined before my schedule became too busy for their class times, but my brief experiences in-store were positive. I was drawn in by the free session and the instructor was fantastic.
Aaaaand that's the kicker. Everyone is great in studio, but as soon as you want to leave you have to deal with Member Solutions, not Marin MMA. They should make that MUCH clearer when you sign the automatically

Marin MMA combines everything that I love (and wish people knew more) about MMA - an emphasis on building foundational skills, a strong sense of respect and cameraderie, and instructors who are obviously knowledgable but also very humble and patient.
I've been to MMA gyms where the testosterone and RipFuel is off the charts; and/or where I've felt unsafe training as a woman among men. Mikyo and the other instructors at Marin MMA are great models for leadership - and that happy, patient, dedicated attitude trickles down to the students. It's a beautiful thing when you can roll

Been thinking long and hard about getting back into martial arts. But I don't really have time for the evening classes and whatnot so I reached out to Antone one of the instructors for private weekly lessons. It's only been a couple weeks but I can tell you I am very pleased with the process thus far.
I'm not looking for anything pretty or anything fancy at this point I'm looking for down and dirty real life self defense to protect myself and my family. And that is exactly what I'm getting. Antone, is cool, confident and a very good instructor. So far what I see of

At 8-yrs old, my son wanted to study "sword ceremony" - where to start?!
My college martial arts teacher looked over the Bay Area offerings and suggested MMMA. What distinguishes MMMA over other studios is the clear emphasis on respect, community values, and honoring the tradition of the (martial) art. It's one thing to learn drills. It's another to learn one's own power, and the power of another. Now 11 years old, my son, previously interested in exercising his intellectual capacity, created a goal to compete Jiu Jitsu. Starting his third year, he's now practicing

My 6-1/2 year old has been training at Marin MMA for 2-1/2 years in the Little Lions class and we can't say enough great things about the Marin MMA class for little kids.
Mikyo, Bon, Julian, and all the other teachers are fantastic working with kids. They care, they know every child by name, they break up the students into belt-color groups during class, giving great focus to each child. At belt ceremonies Mikyo has special words of praise for each individual child; he knows his students and draws attention to the positives in each of them. We've heard about other martial arts studios

I first came across jiu jitsu watching the ufc. After that first show I started looking for a school to start training at. I looked at schools close to home but I didn't like any of them. I decided to look in other parts of the bay. I came across this school and it was every thing I was looking for. My first day they gave me a free one on one lesson. The main instructor here is Mikyo Riggs. He is a black belt under Ralph Gracie. When you first walk in everyone that is there shakes your hand and say welcome. They make you feel like family! The jiu jitsu is world class and the kick boxing is
