The Medical Center boasts nine major medical institutions and hundreds of medical offices that employ over 30,000 individuals in the San Antonio area. UT Health professor Dr. David Miramontes explains his experience with getting diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. According to the American Diabetes Association, 1.5 million people in the US get diagnosed with Diabetes.

In 1944, community leaders began discussing the possibility of bringing a medical school to San Antonio. Over the next three years and through tireless effort, they established the San Antonio Medical Foundation as a nonprofit corporation to formally pursue this goal. Over 200 acres of land were donated, and the foundations for the Medical Center were laid.

Methodist Hospital provides appropriate immunizations to patients receiving treatment in our ERs or as inpatients; it does not offer general immunization clinics for the community. Baptist Health System received the Gold Award from the Metropolitan Health District in 2011 for achieving excellent flu immunization rates among its staff, volunteers and physicians.
Whether traveling to the Medical Center by private or public transportation, patients and visitors will find bus stops and parking spaces conveniently located near each institution. VIA offers bus service on 8 routes to the Medical Center. Reduced fares are available to senior citizens, children, students, persons with disabilities and Medicare recipients.
