Sams Italian Market
In 1961, Sam Mele opened Sam's Cold Cuts in the Olney section of Philadelphia. For 16 years the Mele family was producing ravioli, fresh pastas and Italian sausage, with recipes brought with them from Calabria, Italy. In 1977, the business was moved to Willow Grove.

They expanded; Sam's Italian Market began providing the community with a wide selection of imported Italian products, delicatessen meats, Italian sausage and pasta products made on the premises. With Sam's own foresight and his son Adam's hard work, the bakery was added in 1988. You will find a wide assortment of baked goods, including Italian breads, rolls and tomato pies all baked in-house.
Services
Sam's Bakery is the place to find the finest Italian breads, stromboli, tomato pie and rolls. We began baking our own bread in 1988, to meet our customers' high demand for fresh baked Italian breads. Our bread and rolls are baked fresh everyday by our skilled master craftsmen. Making bread is a lengthy process, from mixing the ingredients, to letting the dough rise, hand-rolling it and finally baking, the whole process takes about 6 hours.
In 2006, our bakery expanded to include pastries and cakes. Not only do we have cannoli, but now we carry a wide variety of cakes and single-serve pastry. Our mini sfogliatelle, cream puffs, cupcakes or mini cannoli will make any celebration memorable. Our Italian Rum Cake is hand made from the freshly baked sponge cake to our cream custard filling.
We have everything including: USDA Choice meats, NY strip steak, Delmonico, Fillet, Rib Roast, Crown Roast, ground beef, ground pork, ground veal, and poultry. We sell nothing less than quality choice cuts of meat! You will also find our homemade original sausages sweet or hot, with or without fennel seed!.
October is upon us! Changing leaves, cooler weather, and lots of reasons to enjoy some great food. Whether it's a tailgate, a milestone birthday, or a family dinner, fall is the ideal time to enjoy some heartier fare you may not have served in the warmer months. With the growing season wrapping up, so are Adam and Frank's trips to Lancaster to get the freshest produce for you.

The best lemon biscotti in the area! They never last in my home. Reasonable prices, delicious & homemade dinners, and my go-to when I need stuffed olives. Love this place!

The rating pertains to the hoagie. I think that they are the best I ever had. I order the mozzarella hoagie, which is vegetarian and has broccoli rabe and roasted peppers. I have ordered a similar one at Primo’s, but it doesn’t come close to the one at Sam’s. The rest of the store is amazing as well. Certainly not the least expensive place, but an extensive collection of yummy food stuffs.

By far the best hoagies in the area. Everything is fresh and the quality is top notch! Make sure you wear a sweatshirt when you go in as it is always freezing! Worth the cold though to get a sandwich here. A bit pricey and there's usually a wait but there's a reason so many people shop here. You won't be disappointed.

Moved here a few years ago from NY and missed the old school Italian markets. This is the real deal. My main focus was to find the best local or regional pizza and Italian subs. Sam’s doesn’t do pizzas (other than some basic tomato pies, to my knowledge) but they have an unbelievable deli/sandwich shop in the back of the market. Consistently over the past few years they have hands down the best Italian subs I have tried not just here in the Philly suburbs but anywhere. Try the Nonna. Besides the fresh ingredients and top grade meats and cheeses they use, the bread is fantastic and really stands

In my opinion Sam’s is one of the of “Trinity” of local markets in the area including O'Neill's Food Market in Glenside and Joe's Meat Market in Ardsley.
Collectively these three markets are family oriented, community focused, and great places to spend your valuable dollars.
The character of the community is accented with the best flavors of Italy, Ireland and Germany.
Essentially, they are part of the great tapestry of America and the essence of the soul that makes this a great area to live!
When this Irish family has a craven for sausage, meatballs and “gravy” we head on over to
