You can't control the outside world, the past, or other people, but you can learn to control how you respond to them and, most importantly, how you respond to yourself. I'm Kristen Rivers, a therapist and certified clinical hypnotherapist specializing in the areas of anxiety/chronic worrying, young adult struggles, couples in conflict, men's issues, and adjusting to parenthood.

I want to help you attain a deeper understanding of yourself and your loved ones and to offer you some concrete coping skills to help make those changes you really want to make. If you're reading this, you were likely drawn to this site because you are experiencing emotional discomfort. Emotions are a huge part of you, a part of EVERY HUMAN WHO HAS EVER LIVED, they are an essential part of our fully-evolved brains.

In the 90s I studied Philosophy and Theater at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and later got my Master's in Marriage and Family Counseling from CSUN where I co-led master's level practicum classes. Before private practice, I trained for several years at Glendale Community College where I successfully advocated for the inclusion of couples and family therapy for students.
Whether you are suddenly waking up in the middle of the night with heart-lurching panic or have been dealing with constant nagging rumination for years, the suffering that anxiety brings can be overwhelming. It can make you feel out of control, hinder decision-making, and ultimately rob you of the abilities to feel joy and connect with others.
Couples often have essentially the same fights over and over with little resolution or change. You and your partner may be fighting about chores, money, parenting, or any number of other things, but the real underlying issues are the same and the dynamic that has been set in motion has taken on a life of its own.
I explain why it can be so challenging to make the changes you truly want to make in your life. You really don't want to chronically worry, overeat, repeat unhealthy relationships patterns, obsessively check your social media, and yet. Repeating these behaviors makes you feel out of control. You become your own "tiger mom" and kick yourself when you're down, then you feel even worse.
I am not on any insurance panels, but I do provide clients with superbills. Clients can then submit the superbill to their insurance company for possible reimbursement. If you want to know how much your insurance company will reimburse for sessions, call and ask them "What is your reimbursement rate for out-of-network mental health providers?"

Kristen Rivers has been my therapist for 5 years, and within this time that I have been working with her, my life has been forever changed for the better.
I was a mess five years ago, but Kristen was able to help navigate and guide me to find what I can do to create a successful business, better relationships with my loved ones, and strong boundaries with the chaos makers in my life. Because of Kristen, I went back to (grad) school and will be following through in a brand new career, this year! Do yourself a favor and call her. Especially now, as we have all been through some collective trauma
