John Boesky, MFT
My name is John Boesky, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Dharma Life Coach, and Sports Performance Consultant. Since 2004, I've been honored and privileged to offer my seasoned support, guidance, and counsel to motivated men, women, couples, families, athletes, established professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, and business owners as they have courageously endeavored to realize more and more of their full potential in order to live their best lives!

In my work work my clients, I always strive to offer them my engaged presence, genuine empathy, warm compassion, illuminating insights, empowering knowledge, and honed facilitation skills to support their healing processes and/or guide them on their quest for personal growth and transformation.
Services
I work with individuals, couples, families, and athletes. In addition to being an MFT, Master NLP Practitioner, Certified Hypnotherapist, and Dharma life Coach, I'm also a Sports Psychology Consultant, and I've worked with countless high school, collegiate, and professional athletes to help them perform up to their greatest potential.
I'm particularly skilled at teaching effective communication skills, revitalizing relationships, teaching empathetic listening skills, helping clients resolve Family of Origin issues, resolving trauma, helping clients adopt empowering belief systems, teaching strategies to manage anger andor replace anger with compassion and forgiveness, strengthening a client's self-esteem, helping clients overcome anxiety and depression, and co-creating strategies with individuals, couples, families, and athletes to grow, evolve, achieve their goals, and enjoy the invigorating process of personal growth transformation.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I help couples communicate with, listen to, and deeply understand their partners. I have extensive experience helping couples with therapy and counseling to resolve conflicts. Through my years as a therapist I have learned that struggles in a relationship aren't uncommon.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I've facilitated Men's process groups, Women's process groups, CO-ED process groups, Sports Psychology groups, and Therapist/Life Coach Training groups. I've found time and time again that there's a magical self-transcendence that takes place in them. Individuals are no longer islands unto themselves privately working one-on-one with a therapist.
What does it mean to be a man in the world today? A lot of men don't have an answer for this question. Many of us have been taught by our fathers to be strong, stoic, and unemotional. We've learned how to be pragmatic, how to get things done. Then we're told by women to be more sensitive, more affectionate, more in touch with our feelings.

I have emailed him and called him for over two weeks now with no response other than "I'll get back to you shortly".
Poor business practice
A simple, "I am completely booked" would have been fine but I have received nothing.

When I first saw John I was coming from a place of curiousity. I wanted to know more about myself and how to overcome my messed up childhood. Little did I know that my sessions with John would help me become the best version of myself. I had tried other therapists in the past. Some good some not so good but John is on an entirely different level. From the very beginning he treated with kindness and attentavinesss as you would a close friend. His approach is non-judgement and extremly insightful. After every session I would leave feeling a sense of peace and centeredness. After working with John

John is such a warm soul. I found him very easy to connect with. Not everyone can be a perfect match and certainly would not expect miracles in one session. I saw John many times and I have never felt more heard. I didn't write a review earlier but as I refer a friend to him I looked up his reviews. I am very disappointed to see the negativity in some of his reviews. You know the people who can never be pleased? Anyways, I consider John to be an amazing counselor and always refer people to him.

A woman is walking in a meadow and finds herself in a minefield. Can't get out. She tries desperately for days, yelling for help, for any passers-by along the road to stop and lend assistance. Finally, a doctor stops and cranes his neck to catch her voice. The woman says, "Doc! Doc! Look, I'm in a minefield and I have no idea how to get out!" The doctor writes a prescription, says, "Here you go, this will help," throws it into the wind and keeps walking. Later, a priest walks by and hears her tenuous cries for assistance. Writing a prayer on a slip of paper, he tosses it at her and says, "Here

I highly recommend seeing John if you are stuck, in distress, or grieving a loss. As an EMDR practitioner, I look for authenticity and integrity in my own treatment. John helped me more forward after a life-altering loss. His insights and perspective were obviously informed by years of practice, and he was genuine and compassionate in his approach. After seeing John for only a few sessions, I felt lighter, less sad, and ready for new beginnings. Thank you, John!

Working with John changed my life.
If you grew up thinking therapy was for "weak" people, you and I probably heard similar things.
When I first started meeting with a therapist, I was embarrassed. I didn't tell anyone because I thought my friends would think less of me. I thought strong people didn't need therapy.
I soon learned that the opposite is true. Working with a therapist can sometimes bring up things that you never realized about yourself. Being willing to learn about yourself takes courage, especially when what you're learning is that you are hurting another person, or people. It takes

I was 27 years old and I knew that i wasn't ok. A good friend of mine recommended I went to a therapist and after looking and sitting with a couple I found John. John and I worked weekly for almost 5 years and his brilliance, patience, and insight helped me get through a very tough period in my life.
John is patient and full of knowledge and best of I never ever felt judged. I needed someone to speak with outside of my circle who could give me honest feedback and he did just that.
I am so grateful to John and therapy that as a keynote speaker and leader development expert, i recommend therapy

I have worked with John the past year about overcoming some self limiting beliefs. He has helped me IMMENSELY. He is a great listener, intuitive, gives great feedback and is understanding. HIs experiential exercises have helped make very positive changes in my life. I RARELY write a review about anyone or anything, BUT John will help you with whatever your goals are or positive changes you would like to make in your life. I cannot recommend or thank him enough.

I decided to work with John after going through an intense break up and feeling rather lost with myself. In my experience working with him, I have found myself becoming much more self-aware and feeling a lot more empowered both in personal and professional life. Overtime through his parts, meditation and embodiment work combined with using the effective communications skills he has taught me, I have been able to navigate through my most challenging relationships. Working with him has drastically improved many aspects of my life and I couldn’t be more satisfied.

I have been a colleague of Mr. Boesky for decades. During that time, I have known him to be a caring and dedicated mental health professional, who hones and expands his skills by professional education and mastery of several treatment modalities. I recommend him without reservation, and he remains my primary referral when an individual within my personal or professional life is seeking treatment in the San Diego area.

John is a stellar and effective sports psychologist. As a Division 1 athlete, I’m results oriented. I’ve had a lot of fears, mental blocks, and limitations to work through, and while I’m not where I want to be yet, I’ve made so much progress.

In the time I have seen Dr Boesky he has helped me discover a dimension of myself I know I have always had but was afraid to utilize - My true self. Although it is a constant struggle to fall into old patterns I find myself doing it less often. I always leave Dr Boesky's office finding myself at ease and letting go of a lot of the stresses that plague me. Dr Boesky has showed me that my authentic self is really beautiful and has given me tools in my lifelong quest for self acceptance. I highly recommend Dr Boesky to help anyone in the market for a Therapest to assist you in "knowing

John encourages his clients to write about their experiences on Yelp and knocks down their fees if they do so. Completely dishonest. This imposter of a "life coach" contacted Yelp to have my review removed. I feel it is my absolute duty to inform potentially swindled clients of the scam this individual is running with his "practice". I think this John guy needs a life coach himself! Completely unhelpful and only out to steal a paycheck. I was less than amazed. John provided little guidance on our first meeting, but instead suggested I try absurdly cliche rituals and practices

John boesky is great at his job, the one star review is pointing blame towards John Boesky for no good reason.
May as well blame a new born infant in England for you not having exact change for the bus.

John is a warm and sincere therapist, and has a kind soul. My sessions with him over the past year have helped me grow, and his skilled questioning techniques allow me to discover the learning for myself rather than have it dictated for me. I appreciate the intellectual discourse we share, as well as the extra care he takes to make sure that I am doing well.

When I first contacted John I was at a very low point and close to losing the family that I love due to anger management issues and depression. When my wife and I first met with John we quickly learned that John has a gift for listening, understanding and guiding. He was able to help both me and my wife understand where the anger was coming from and how to deal with it. He was never judgmental but instead was kind, caring and offered helpful suggestions.

I cannot thank John enough for helping to guide me on this journey of self-discovery and improvement and in the process strengthen my marriage

John Boesky has been an instrumental component of my successful journey through a very dark time in my life. Without going through the personal details, I can attest to John's compassionate and intuitive approach to mental wellness. My journey has been a long one, and all along the way I knew John was in my corner. Having that knowledge, quite honestly, is the reason I am here today to write this review. John makes a genuine connection and creates a safe environment, which allows him to peel back the layers; this leads to a rediscovering of one's authentic self. He has a vast arsenal

Wow, suprised to see good reviews for this guy. I saw him once last week with my daugher. She was a gymnast with a mental block. He forgot to take my payment info. I called him back with it, and gave the FSA card number and he either got the number wrong or didn't bill it as healtcare, so instead of just asking, he threatened me with collections if i didn't call him back...mind you, after leaving one message in the morning which i got at 1pm. Really?? Further, he did NOTHING for my daughter with a mental block except recommend drugs for her to take before practice. Oh wait, she flies

I cannot express enough gratitude for the compassion, support and faith John has had in me and helped provide me with over the last 7 months since I began meeting with him. John has literally helped me turn my life a completed 180 (starting from the inside out) and I will be forever indebted to him. John's enthusiasm, listening skills, and knowledge far surpasses any of the experiences I have had while being in 'therapy', and I value every moment I have with him. There are many 'attributes' that I love about John...I could literally go on and on...but what I love the most

Wow I was in for a treat since being with Boesky my personal life has never been better and I've went 4-0 in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Boesky uses a variety of different tools to help you in any way you need and truly cares about his clients. I am truly grateful to have Boesky on my team and would recommend him to anyone.
