Please note that individual leases are NOT offered by Varsity Berkeley! Each resident signs their own lease for their specific bedroom. So, if a roommate moves out, the other residents are not responsible for that person's rent. Why is my rent not prorated? A rental installment is a payment made as part of a series of payments.

Varsity Berkeley is a great place for students to live! It is not far from campus and close to the BART. The complex also has a variety of amenities such as the lounge or rooftop and there are always fun events like breakfasts or barbeques for the residents every month. The staff is very kind and welcoming and will help you with anything you need!

The management of this property needs serious reorganization. Their portal payment system is a nightmare. They receive payment directly from the bank and yet they do not recognize it and charge extra fees for additional payments. I will be reporting them to the better business bureau.

I have been living here for 2 years and saw this property switched hands twice. When I first move-in, the property was managed by a nice lady named Donna and the place was like heaven.
However, Donna is no longer around and things made a turn for the worst. The new management, peakcampus, send in a team with very good attitude but very weak capabilities. They had been very slow at responding to request: recently they installed a new entrance security system that no longer read our key fobs, causing me to be locked out, help didn't arrive even after an hour I called. My room was also broken into

The management here is completely useless. No one is ever at the front office during business hours and no one picks up the phone. The answering service does not even allow you to leave a voicemail.
On top of this rent is outrageous. I had a 3 bed/2 bad unit for which our rent was $4600 per month. Each month we were charged $300+ in utilities which included $100 for trash. We pay PG&E monthly for gas, electricity, and water, however the $300 surcharge consisted of a trash charge, water charge, sewage charge, gas charge, pest control charge, and a utility fee. It is impossible to ask the management

This building is a complete dump. The paint is dreary and dated. The management is not professional and does not respond to request. It is also really poor value. In addition, your packages will be stolen. This has happened to me three times and the building does not take any rectifying action. I would recommend that you stay away from living in this dump.
Multiple emails have been sent and there was never a response for the package stealing issue. The management of the business changes all the time so do not expect a response.

It's currently 12:40AM as I am writing this. I can't sleep because there are several large parties in the building, as there have been for the past few weeks since the semester started. If you're looking for the next COVID super spreader event, just visit Varsity Berkeley during a random week night since management doesn't seem to be doing anything about them!

I have been living here for almost year and a half and it has been an awesome experience. The building is always clean and extremely well maintained. Donna from the leasing office is extremely helpful and resourceful. Location of the building is also amazing, next to a lot of restaurants, bars, and gyms. Highly recommend you to live here!

During my stay at Varsity, through the unexpected complications in my living situation, Donna helped in all of her ability to make sure that my housemates and I were able to overcome them. Her patience is unprecedented, and the amount of care she put into the issues we faced made my stay at Varsity worthwhile. Even after I moved out to my new apartment, Donna helped me find a mattress in an emergency situation for a sublet, which is obviously not part of her responsibilities as it has nothing to do with managing Varsity apartments. She has been a huge help from living in Varsity and even in situations

The building is nice and well maintained. Donna in the front office is really helpful as well. I lived here for 2 years during grad school. Very convenient location as you are close to downtown with a 10 minute walk to Trader Joe's and 10-15 minute walk to campus. Definitely enjoyed my stay. I would say 4.5 stars!

The leasing consultant was excellent in showing the available options and was very enthusiastic in talking about the amenities and options. She answered all the questions and concerns I had. It was a pleasure touring the property with her and I was very much impressed by her and the facilities provided at Varsity, especially flexible leasing duration and option of furnished rooms. It makes life easy for international students!! Having very updated kitchen with stainless steel appliances and dishwasher as well as in-unit laundry plus 2 bathrooms makes life so convenient!

Insanely overpriced apartments and the price point would be understandable if they had delivered what was promised. Security at these apartments are horrible with even police citing these apartments to be a prime location for break ins. Management seems to not care about its residents as complaints are routinely ignored. It's far from campus. There's a huge rat problem. There are better options. Don't live here even if you're desperate.

This place is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced and not worth the cost at all- yes it looks all fancy when you first come but appearances are deceiving. I lived here over the summer and the equipment looks nice but is actually really janky and breaks/ comes off extremely easily. Also there are rats and other rodents running around in the backyard which happens to be outside the window RIGHT NEXT TO THE BED. Even worse, there's absolutely no security at all when it comes to packages. They're all just left in a heap in the main room in which basically anyone can access and I've come home so

Been a resident since about June 2016. The building is great, apartments have lots of amenities, and rooftop view is breathtaking. The building managers of changed a few times a couple time since I moved in, but one person has been here the whole time and that's Josh.
Josh has especially made the building a pleasure to live in because as you know problems come about all the time but Josh is alwayyys so on top about fixing and addressing them in a very timely manner. Also just always going above and beyond and always warm and friendly.
Bottom line, move here! You'll be in good hands

If you're looking for an apartment in Berkeley, this is by far probably the best place for comfort and luxury. There are furnished beds, desks, chairs, one couch, and a television (probably others too haha). Anyways I live in Varsity Berkeley and I don't mind the distance from walking here to the Berkeley Campus. The kitchen is nice and laundry is provided for free, so you don't have to use any more quarters hehe! The bathrooms are nice and the showers are welcoming. If you ever need to schedule repairment, the main floor and rent managers are pretty nice about the fixes. :) so far
