Samuel Land Company was founded in 1951 by Samuel McKinney. The company was originally involved in the development of single family homes and various apartment communities throughout greater Pittsburgh. SLC Realty, Inc. was founded in 1996 to lease and manage both Samuel Land Company's assets, and those of others on a third party basis.
A student can face real problems. Students are usually on a limited budget so they can't afford a luxurious apartment in the heart of the city. People may refuse to rent to students. Some landlords question the activities of younger students. However, there is a very effective way to begin your search for student housing in Pittsburgh.

SLC Realty was a great place to rent from while I was at Pitt. Scott went out of his way to help with any issues we had. Maintenance request were always taken care of within 24 hours. They kept their properties in great condition and rent was affordable. All bedrooms were fully furnished which took a lot of stress of moving into and out of the house. I would definitely recommend them to anyone moving to the Oakland area.

I rented from SLC Realty for the first year I moved off campus. My parents and I were exceptionally pleased. Scott, our real estate agent through SLC, was always helpful and would go out of his way to make sure that my roommates and I were happy and comfortable in our apartment. Everytime I called the company, I was greeted pleasantly and connected to Scott right away. Even the maintenance people were helpful and nice. Whenever we had a problem (which were few and far between because the apartment was so nice), Barry would come over immediately and fix it with no problem. We had a lot of outdoor

Excellent experience. I had rented several apartments in the Shadyside/ Oakland area in the late 80's and 1990's in my younger college days, so I have had multiple experiences renting in the are.
Now as a parent of a college age student, I was prepared for a less than desirable experience. I could not have been more wrong. SLC was responsive to every phone call from my daughter. The Maintenance Man was Fabulous. Scott in the office was professional, friendly and more than willing to accommodate.
If you are a parent and setting your young adult up for an apartment, I highly recommend SLC.!!
