Market Street Cafe & Market is a collaboration of passions of the two masterminds, Chef Sutton & Shelby VanGunten. Chef Sutton has been in the food industry for 20 years including experience working with a French Master Chef, five years at Whole Foods Market, five years owning and operating Gonzo Juice in Austin and more.
Pastry Chef Shelby is a phenomenal pastry craftsman predominantly self taught after growing up learning from mom and her aunts. Shelby makes fresh sourdough every week from her family's 30 year old starter. Together they round out a delicious menu. Seriously what an amazing breakfast.... what started as a random stop before our new years hike turned into a favorite dive!Hands down the top 5 best breakfast we've ever had, the pot roast omlette was out of this world delicious! The sausage patty was made locally and you could definitely tell with all the delicious flavors it had, the hash potatoes were also extremely notable!!! Only 15 min. From us and we never knew.... will definitely be back for sure for both the outstanding service and food! Hats off to yall!!!

Oh My Goodness Wow! I just devoured the most amazing dish. Cornbread chili waffles. Wow! This is not ordinary but yet it's made out of cornbread and chili. What's more Texan than cornbread and chili? Pile a load of perfectly seasoned zesty chili on top of a slightly crunchy on the outside but not over cooked Grandma's cooked in an iron skillet style cornbread and something amazing results. You seriously have to try this! But not on Friday, I don't want there to be a line on Friday when I can eat in Lockhart.

My husband and I just ate lunch here. We had brussel sprouts as our starter...which was delicious!! They had so much flavor! I ordered the pan seared salmon with rice pilaf and broccoli. It was the BEST I have ever had!!! Everything was so good and flavorful, I can't brag enough about how good it was. The service was perfect and a clean, cozy environment as well. Honestly, this place is the best I've ever had in Lockhart.

I drove to lockhart to bail a friend out of jail, and needed to grab some lunch. I stopped in to this little cafe, and everything about it was perfect.

the executive and sous chef menus were so creative with veggie, gluten free, seasonal, local, like it was almost a meme. but it was perfect.
I ordered some sort of Farmer sandie, minus cheese, made vegan, switch poppyseed bread for the made in house sourdough.
it was served open faced, which is not a sandwich, because it's impossible to eat, so it's like knife and fork, or brave

We rode in from Austin for a car show and my man hadn't eaten...with the heat he was struggling to say the least! They were so kind and rushed the order which was DELICIOUS! Got him amazing fresh lemonade which they refilled as much as we needed them brought the food to our car in pieces so he didn't have to get out and didn't have to wait for it all at once. They are wonderful on every level! Thank you

Oh my goodness gracious! This place was phenomenal! Stumbled upon it in passing through to the coast. I had the best coffee & breakfast in this cute café, it made me question what I've been doing my whole life lol. Upon leaving I glanced at their lunch menu and yes, I shall come back to try other options! Bravo! You're now my favorite place to enjoy a delicious breakfast!

I spent a week in Lockhart and came for the BBQ. I had no idea that Lockhart is a culinary oasis and has so much to offer for a foodie beyond amazing 'cue. Market Street Cafe is a prime example of that. It was so good that I stopped by twice.
From the outside, it looks like your everyday cafe. I wasn't expecting to experience food at the highest level but I did. On my first visit, I had the crawfish mac and cheese which is served with a side of garlic bread. The creole sauce was addictive. With a little kick but not overpowering. The bread was fresh. All in all, 5/5 and a big enough

Wow! I've had the pleasure of enjoying me a meal or 2, or 3 here ;).......and have yet to be let down. The food is amazing. This is place is definitely a gem. With the risk of criticism...I must say I love great food at any cost...drive, price, etc. I frequent Truluck's on Colorado St in Austin, Gennaro's at Canyon Lake, Morton's, Eddie V's, True Food Kitchen, etc. and these places are great most of the time....but let me just say Market Street is amazing! Amazing all around! They have amazing service and amazing food! Right now due to the pandemic there is no dine-in, but they have tables and chairs set-up outside that you can seat and eat on.
Shelly's Homemade Sourdough Bread is absolutely heavenly! It's so soft and moist, it's my new favorite Sourdough bread!
We've also tried their pastries and they did not dissapoint.
This last visit we actually tried their entrées and they were so full of flavor!!!
They told us that everything is made from scratch and you can definitely tell that everything is made with care and love! I got the Texas Chilli

We arrived about a half hour before closing but they graciously served us anyway. There was a minor snafu with the order but no biggie. The food was delicious and we were glad to find a place in a meat-forward Lockhart catering to our plant-based style (even though it wasn't vegan).
The Beyond Burger was about like anywhere else but the brioche bun took it up a notch. The Farmer's Sandwich sounds unassuming but was surprisingly good with an excellent blend of flavors. You can't go wrong with either the sweet potato fries or the home fries. Even the coffee (Ruta Maya!) was fantastic

Enjoyed so much about my experience here. The food was very fresh and delicious. I ordered the Chicken Felon sandwich and was very impressed. The waitress was just wonderful and very friendly. They had a great selection of music and restaurant was very clean. Look forward to going back soon!
