I had to do a brake and light inspection. Not only did they hit me on things that they initially said were not "hit items", but when I came back for reinspection I was told their "inspection guy" was gone for a month. -_-
I have not felt taken care of at all. They got my $150 though. >:(

I was in need of a light and break inspection for my salvage car. I took it here and they charged me 150 for the inspection however, they said it failed due to having aftermarket LED lights. We proceeded to purchasing regular lights and took it back, they were gonna charge us an additional 300 for them changing the lights and also for them to print the certificate and also for them to inspect again. I would totally recommend going elsewhere, it was my mistake for not reading the reviews prior to taking my car. Disrespectful people not even polite.

I went here on a recommendation for a DMV Light and Break. First of all $150 for guys to look at parts is a scam. You need these certs to get car registered and this guy knows that. I had a Master mechanic help me get lights in and adjusted with all bran new lights and parts, grill and up. So I then took it to these guys to get Ca Certs. They told me my lights were to high even after having measured them myself with a MASTER mechanic. He said it will cost $75 to adjust them if I wanted the certs. He told me I can go fix them myself and bring the car back and they will charge me $75 for reinspect

I don't know why I didn't check Yelp, His fake charge up on Brake and lamp inspection quote was ridiculous the owner wrote down repairs my car did not need! He denied my certificate and charged $100 for his fake inspection! He didn't even have a master key to remove the bolts on my tires; shady business he's quick to charge up cost. Went else where and was quickly approved with very minimum repair not even close to what this place said I needed for certificate. unfortunately lost $100 to this shady business

I took my 2014 Acura to the dealership when some of the alerts were popping up. They said that the alerts were caused by a tire monitor that needed to be replaced, and that it would cost over $400. When inspecting, they also said I needed new front brakes which they quoted close to $600. I couldn't help but feel like I was getting ripped off, so I decided to get a 2nd quote. That's when I talked with Allen at California Motor Works, and I am so lucky I did. In addition to saving me money, he also was a pleasure to work with & had the work done quicker than expected. I highly recommend California

Needed a brake and light inspection to transfer title in state. They made it easy by showing me what needed to be done to pass. I fixed and came back 2 weeks later they approved. Professional and easy to work with.

Went in for a DMV certified break and light inspection, got charged $150 and failed for stupid stuff (ex. My headlights were not bright enough). I should've check the ratings in Yelp first. This place not recommend. Go anywhere else but here.

If you want a brake and light inspection, avoid these guys like the plague. They are money grubbers. They will spend their time nit picking your car so they can rack up as much cash as they can. They will tell you they are doing what they are required by law. The car is old and safe. This inspection is to ensure you have a safe car. This car had the hood replaced and every light was working as you would expect and every other car on the road had. No body damage to the vehicle. It was ready to pass. But they claim they will not pass until all the nit picky irrelevant items are done to their

THESE GUYS ARE LOSERS! I went in to get my brake and light inspection ($150) and they failed it the first time for brakes that needed to be replaced as well the most bizarre things you could think of like my headlight being a bit to high (oh yeah with no evidence other than their "technician" pointing at the wall and saying "see"! I then proceed to drop $400 to fix the issues they said were wrong and went back for a re-inspection. This reinspection cost me another $75 and they failed it due to a missed spring and my headlight being pointed too far to the left... WOW, IT&apos

My daughter took the car in for a brake and light inspection. Cost was $99.00. She was told that there were 4 things that needed to be addressed. They said they could do it for about $600.00 and if it needed extra parts it would be more. Also when the re inspection was done it was going to be $75.00. She brought the car home we ordered parts, light bulbs and installed them. Also installed a new fog light. Went back for them to give certificate and they would not as the fog light was no Original Equipment. They still charged $75.00 for the incomplete re inspection.
They are total rip offs. Please

Alan and his crew are honest, hardworking, and reliable people. They have been my go-to car place since moving to San Diego four years ago. I have had several issues with my 2003 Toyota Camry, and not only have they helped me with those repairs, they have helped me decide when something can be fixed on my own (such as replacing a light bulb and getting the part from Auto Zone), or if something can wait, etc. Alan has also been beyond gracious in allowing me to pay the bill in a couple separate payments when I needed to pay some upon pick-up, and the rest once I got paid, after we had developed

Went in for a smog check and it was the simplest process ever. I was expecting to have to wait a bit since it was around 1 on a Saturday but it took only about 20 min. Great service and good price. I'll definitely be back next time I need it done.

I've been relying on this business for car repairs, smog and overall maintenance since 2005. They have been consistently honest, fast and competitively priced. My car recently did not pass the smog check. Instead of charging an arm and a leg to fix the problem, they reconnected the repairs which I did myself. Brought the car back for testing and it passed. These mechanics will continue to get my business years to come.

I love this shop. I'll be taking it in for a third time this coming friday, and each time I've left really happy with my service AND price. Cars these days are expensive and even more complicated, so bravo to the techs and service adviser. I really love Allen and Kent that work their too.

I'm in a service advisory class and am getting to know the programs for garages and what gets done behind the desk and how to tell what places are playing you and which have integrity. I can tell you that at least in my experience, this shop has integrity and has done everything to the point that

I have never left an auto garage more happy.

I took my vehicle to another auto shop because my brakes weren't working properly. The shop diagnosed the issue and wanted to charge me almost $500 for the repair.

So i decided to take my car to here for a second opinion. I brought my car in and was taken care of right away. They showed me exactly where the problem was and guess what?? It wasn't the initial diagnosis. They took care of my repairs in less than an hour and the cost was less than $150.

It's not often you find a garage that is good and quality work and looks out for

Money hungry unprofessional A-holes. Even if you get work done there for years and you bring in your car for a diagnostic and decide to get work done there, they give you a BS story as to why they can't take off the cost of the diagnostic charge. I think they are going under and bending people over to try and stand afloat! Save yourself the anger and money, try a better place. Shame on you California Motor Works!

Not the best service, but convenient location.

Came in for a smog after I fixed a bunch of things on a car I just bought.

First let me just tell you, that this business is VERY SMALL.
Their parking lot is on a giant hill and is SUPER TINY.
There's cars parked everywhere so you just have to squeeze in through.
They also share the plaza with two other businesses.
If there's no parking, then park on the street.

There seems like there is no wait times for smog here which is good.
But always call in to double check.

Expect about 30mins-1 hour wait for your car to be smogged.

I brought my car here for a mandatory smog check. There's a coupon on the website but they told me it didn't apply since my DMV registration listed STAR certified station required. The guy tried to justify it by saying they have to run more tests (they don't) and when I asked him which tests, he didn't know. In the end I just paid the difference because I had already driven out there and it wasn't really enough of a difference to debate over.

The actual smog check was fairly quick and I was out of there in 25 minutes.

A couple things I discovered after I left:
