Our adult ne waza class emphasizes our ground techniques and self-defense in grappling situations. Students train solo techniques, partner drills, situational drills and free rolling with partners to develop their ne waza skill set. Students also learn and train techniques to deal with punches and other strikes from the ground versus another opponent on the ground, a standing opponent and even multiple attackers.
There's a reason the idea of a "path" is so prominent in martial arts, philosophy, and really any great pursuit. The path followed through life can be explained with virtually all of the same words used to describe a journey along a physical path. Not only that but the ideas brought forth by the "things" encountered along the way seem to show us different aspects of the same lesson.
This is a great opportunity to train with one of Shoshin Ryu's founding members and teacher to Sensei Bair and Sensei Peterson. Sensei Coniaris is a great instructor that has a unique talent of bringing out the very best in his students. Kids you won't want to miss this class. Students of all ranks and ages will have the opportunity to train basics, drills and techniques with Sensei Coniaris.
Different people train martial arts for different reasons. Some enjoy the health and exercise, some enjoy the sense of tradition, some want to learn to defend themselves, others the camaraderie of the people they meet and get to know over the years. Whatever the reason, Shoshin Ryu meets the expectations and the needs of the student, without mandating a reason for pursuing the training.

Chris is amazing with the kids. He balances patience and making the kids to respect him and the art. Somehow he has command of all the kids during class which is not easy with the age ranges. The price is well worth it!

I found the Dojo in Meridian by chance. After observing one of the kids classes, I knew this was the dojo for me and for my kids. I loved it because it not only focuses on the physical and technical side of training in martial arts, but it also teaches that it is your journey. Your life is YOUR journey. Sensi Peterson and Sensi Bair address the issues that are affecting our kids, and us as adults today. They give their students the tools to stand up and to think for themselves. To accept responsibility for their actions, and learn from each experience. One of the very first things your will hear

Sure, the instruction from Senseis Bair and Peterson is top notch; thorough and patient, but I also get a wonderful group that spans ranks/belts, where everyone supports and helps each other. I could not ask for better instruction, a tighter, more thoughtful community, or the enjoyment I am getting from my time here.

From my perspective: The Dojo offers teachings in Shoshin Ryu and there is a great deal of emphasis on character as well as martial arts. The sensei are great and they make sure each student receives an equal opportunity to learn. They are strict and fun, that's a hard combination to find. When I was younger, my sensei was all business and if I wasn't, I had to do japanese pushups for an hour. Times have changed. My kiddo is enrolled and the classes are flexible and fun! 5 stars!

My daughter started with The DOJO last November attending classes once a week. She absolutely LOVES it. I found her excitement for the class contagious and decided to try classes for myself. I started weekly classes and have since decided to attend two classes a week instead of just one. The atmosphere is amazing, and the instructors are very patience and understanding of the different abilities of each student. My family highly recommends The DOJO for anyone looking for a great martial arts experience.

I started Shoshin at "The Dojo" in April, 2012. I've been practicing Judo among other martial arts for over four years now, and I can say that practice at "The Dojo" is completely legitimate. The class is taught by two very talented and knowledgeable guys who have the ability to thoroughly improve your technique. Practice focuses not just on strikes, but on many other areas such as grappling (wrist locks, arm bars, pins) and throws. Besides self defense, practicing at "The Dojo" has boosted my self-confidence and self control. It is a very friendly environment with fantastic tatami mats to practice

My 15 year old son and I have been students at The Dojo since it opened in November 2011. I had never studied martial arts before, and I walked in with absolutely no idea what to expect. I honestly can not say enough kind things about this establishment. The classes are friendly and fun. The owner/instructors cultivate an atmosphhere that is a near perfect confluence of the casual and the traditional. Plus, they seem to have unlimited patience for beginners like me!
I STRONGLY encourage anyone that is interested in learning practical martial arts, sprinkled with tib-bits of Eastern wisdom and
