Spectre Jiu Jitsu was founded Boise, Idaho in 2019 by Jake Durbin and Thomas Erickson, and Derek Newton. Derek started training in 2006 and earned a black belt in 2016. Thomas was awarded a black belt in 2018 after ten years of training, and Jake is currently a brown belt. We are affiliated with Gustavo Rodrigues Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Professor Gustavo Rodrigues is a 3rd degree black belt in jiu jitsu. He began his study at Integrao Jiu Jitsu in Santo, Brazil in 1995 with Master Elcio Fegueiredo. It was there he developed a passion for teaching, acting as an early mentor for many promising young students, including Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida.

Crisp and Clear instruction. Great culture. They teach leg attacks and equally focus on Gi and No-Gi. No contracts. Month to Month. I'm a member of another gym and pay $40/m to focus on No-Gi through a "dual citizenship" membership. Brilliant!

Great Academy! I was visiting for the weekend and dropped in to the Saturday and Sunday classes and felt like I was training at my home gym. Everyone was extremely welcoming and the group had a great culture/vibe. High level technique and instruction from Prof. Jake and Prof. Derek. Both instructors took time during and after class to go over details and answer any questions. For anyone, at any level, looking for a gym I'd highly recommend this place. I most definitely will be back soon to train!

Very positive & laid back environment. Instruction from 3 black belts keeps things fresh and offers different styles to learn from (Attend classes from each of them. They’re all great).
Spectre also has a very accommodating class schedule with Gi & NoGi options which can be hard to find at other gyms.
I highly recommend Spectre and always look forward to training!

This gym is represented by three extremely humble and knowledgeable instructors! What makes them different from the rest is that they aren’t afraid to show their students the techniques and concepts that continue to work for them while grappling! I personally feel that the drills I have been doing at his gym for the past two months have helped me advance more than the last six months I spent at any other gym! Advanced training and a community attitude is what you will receive at Spectre Jiu Jitsu!

This is exactly what Boise needs, a gym that encourages everyone, including members from other gyms to come and cross-train. I've had the honor of rolling with these guys at another school, and I am so happy they decided to branch out on their own. If you want to learn the best jiu jitsu, and be able to learn from students from other gyms this is the place.

Perfect place for any person interested in learning Brazilian Jui Jitsu. All the instructors are passionate about this art/sport and it shows in their teaching style. They are patient and willing to break down every hang up without making you feel dumb. It is hard to describe the environment other than excellent. Come down and join us for a trial class, I promise if you love the art/sport, you will love Spectre Jui Jitsu.
