Cascade Cliffs began planting vinifera vines in 1986. The 20 acre vineyard is situated on basalt rock and alluvial soils 260 feet above the Columbia River. Light reflection off the river to the south supplies an abundance of light to the vines. The Columbia Hills sit to the north over the vineyard ranging from 2600-3200 feet.
The heat captured by these cliffs radiate back onto the vineyard. Consistent winds that blow in from the west provide the vineyard's canopy with essential air flow, keeping the environment dry, helping to protect from mildew and rot. All these natural elements contribute to an ideal environment for viticulture.
