I think what makes finding a trustworthy and worthwhile garage is places like Lei's. I really wanted to like this place. I had a decent experience in 2019 and I figured I'd try to support this place since COVID must've been hard for them as a business. I even arranged for friends to pick me up or for me to Uber so I could drop off my car here, as my place is far from the shop.
I came in for an oil change + my annual inspection. The service done was fine except the mechanic ripped a portion of my tint off. This was mid grade tint that cost me $150 to get done back in December. I

I have had to use them a few times for accident (collision) and road damage (pothole) repairs. I am extremely satisfied with the quality and expediency of service. I've also dropped my car off for routine service (oil) and inspection, ran an errand downtown with the convenience of the trolley outside the shop, and returned to my serviced car. Terry and the guys are great!

Lei’s helped me out as I was passing through Philly! A couple warning lights came on as I was driving and a friend in town recommended Lei’s. They took a look right away when I drove in. They read the error codes, let me know it was ok to drive it home a couple hours, and then even advised me on what I should ask my regular mechanic to look for once I made it home! They even advised me against an expensive fix that an untrustworthy place might recommend. Super fast and friendly. Thank you!

The place is good, staff is helpful and respectful. The crew indeed is professional and knows their thing. They were able to repair my car in no time and they did pretty good work. My car is in way better situation now. However they do intend to over charge you in the end, the initial quote wont be how much you pay and they really dislike how they try to over sell you on everything here.

I can't praise Lei enough. I was a customer for a number of years when their shop was located at 42nd and Chestnut. It was with dismay that I saw it had closed and I thought of my experiences with other Auto service places. One place I took my car for inspection found $1300 worth of "work that needed to be done" before they would give me an inspection sticker. I have never had such a problem with Lei.
But there is good news. Their new location at 4527 Lancaster is far better than their old location. There is no problem with on street parking. You just drive the car into the facility

Wanted to find a local mechanic for oil change. Went for a routine oil change and found out that there was a leak in the fuel line. Took it to my dealer and the dealer wanted double what Lei's was quoting me. Lei's mechanic found the problems and fixed it much quicker than I expected and they fixed multiple fuel lines leaking and the total still cost less than the dealer's quote. Obviously, I was feel like I pay too much when I go to an auto mechanic, but I had a great experience at Lei's.

I took my car to Lei's for an inspection and they told me that I needed to replace my front struts, for which they quoted me $600, and also said that the problem with the struts was caused by an unusual rust problem that they'd have to figure out how to fix. After googling about struts and the signs of strut problems, and also looking for anything on rust issues on my model, make, and year of car that would affect struts--and finding nothing--I took it to another auto repair place that has an excellent record for honesty, and they said that the right front strut needed a dab of oil and

Lei's used to be my go-to shop for oil changes and inspections, after reading many good reviews on yelp. My most recent experience has left me pretty frustrated. I took my car in for an oil change and mentioned that I was occasionally having some trouble with overheating. I had recently had my thermostat changed at a different shop and asked them to just take a look at it. They told me I had a leak in my coolant system and told me to bring my car back in the following week. I was confused about the process of registering my car in Philly when I moved here, and he explained everything and told me exactly where to go. Ever since, I have been bringing my car to Lei's. The prices are fair, the people are knowledgeable and friendly, and they never treat me with the sexism I've faced my whole life at other auto body shops all over the country.

This shop has gone downhill in the past two years. I have been a customer since 2009 and was happy with their work, but after David left around 2014 the shop changed. Lei is still in charge, but the people working under him now routinely sell service that is not required.
Example 1. I took the car in for an oil change in Jan 2016. I expected to pay for just an oil change, but they told me I needed an emergency brake pad replacement and new rotors. I have been coming to Lei's for over a year now. Recently, I had some work done, other than usual oil change. It included changing the transmission fluid oil, some belts, rear brakes, yearly inspection, as well as some body work. All the work was great, on time, and reasonably priced.
I highly recommend this business.

Been coming here for years and just wanted to post a thank you for their fast, friendly and knowledgeable through the yrs. Mr Lei and his staff have take good care of me and my cars through the years. They often get swamped, so sometimes i call ahead and see how backed up they are, often being the first ones in in the morning is their slowest times.

These guys are honest, accommodating and affordable. They actually showed me the broken parts of my car, explained why they broke, why they need repairing, how they would repair it and how much it would cost to make the repairs AND how they would save me money of they could.
After going to a nearby chain that wanted to charge me 4 times as much money for a ridiculous amount of work and repairs (none of which Lei's ever mentioned), it was refreshing to get a more reasonable idea of what my car needed and what was recommended. They tell you what to look out for down the road ("you should replace your brake pads in the next x months," "start looking out for tire sales," etc), but they don't try to push those sales on you while your car is in the shop as other mechanics I've patronized are wont to do. They do what you ask for without upselling.
They also call before they replace anything critical that they may notice while working on your stuff, and they confirm pricing

Dave is great and just tells you how it is. He's not trying to swindle you out of any more money than you're willing to spend. I called about getting 4 new tires on my 2008 Civic and he offered me 3 reasonable tire options within the price range I was looking for. Price quotes per tire include labor, balancing, etc. Only thing not included in the price was alignment which separately is an additional $80.
