Services
Established in 1977 by Dr.'s Tom and Jan Mehlhoff, South Shore Veterinary Hospital began its roots as a small town veterinary clinic that focused on exceptional diagnostic and surgical care. Dr. Tom's knowledge in clinical pathology and Dr. Jan's surgical skill guided the practice through its first thirteen years.
Please call or click to schedule an appointment. Patients are seen from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. On Saturday we are open from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Preventative care is key to keeping your pet healthy. A solid preventative care plan includes annual to semi-annual physical exams, depending on your pet's age and medical needs.
Dr. Dave Enright joined South Shore Veterinary Hospital and the Forest Lake community in 1991. Shortly after arrival, he and his wife, Dr. Ann Enright became co-owners of the practice with Drs. Tom and Jan Mehlhoff. South Shore has given Dr. Dave the opportunity to pursue his many interests in veterinary medicine from surgery to ultrasonography to working with the wildlife (wolves, bears, cougars.) at the Wildlife Science Center.
State of the art treatment area with overhead exam lighting, plumbed medical gas and ample space for fear free treatments. A quiet place for our doctors to consult with clients, research complex cases and complete medical records. When it's time to recharge, this multi-purpose space is for break time, staff meetings and continuing education.
We are proud to have Fear Free certified professionals on our team and are dedicated to caring for your pet's emotional well-being as well as his or her physical well-being. We'd like you to know how we meet that goal. Is your pet showing signs of bad stress and anxiety before arriving at the veterinary office?

Super friendly staff, patient, explained the care for my cat before and after spay. Called once spay was done to tell me it went well, so I didn't have to wait and wonder and worry. I appreciate that a lot. Lobby is clean and well lit - so are rooms. A cheerful place and people. I trust them, it's important to have people you can trust with your pet. Reasonable fees in my opinion.

My dog tore her ACL and I needed a surgical consultation. I contacted 3 other vets and they all had a consultation fees between $285 and $365. Dr. Dave did not, was extremely thorough and patient and explained all of my options. I had a great experience during a difficult time. The staff also were all very warm, welcoming, and friendly. Thank you all.

We had a great experience making our initial appointment by phone. At our appointment we were greeted right away. We did not have to wait too long to be brought to the back to start our appointment. The tech was friendly and attentive to what we were telling her. The doctor was friendly, kind and attentive as well. She gave us great information and treated our boy wonderfully. A great first experience and we will be glad to go back.

I was able to get a same-day urgent visit for my kitty. I felt better getting him checked out right away as there was concern he had a blockage. Peace of mind is so valuable. Everyone was very kind and helpful with getting kitty back on his feet (paws).

Lincoln has absolutely LOVED going there since first getting him! He got fixed today and they were so patient with telling me instructions even tho he was losing his mind.. the vet came out to the car so he could go in and calm down while we spoke.. they have always made me feel so extremely comfortable! My dogs are my absolute world so it’s VERY important to me to have people I trust! I’ve been to a couple of vets in the past that were very cold and while I was sitting in the waiting room sat and discussed very poorly about pet owners and I was not OK with that..I feel like it’s very unprofessional

We took one of our dogs here for a few years, and then decided to try a vet closer to where we lived. It didn't take us long to go back to this place. Their staff is always professional, caring and kind. I'm glad we have this place available to us, because I do trust them with our dogs' health.

I love all of the Vet's and vet techs here. There is nothing bad to say about how they go above and beyond. When my Mini Dash hound was hurt prior and had staples in from the ER vet, and she had on her cone and she still was able to get the staples out. My mom and son had to run her to the vet on a Saturday and they took her in right away, even though they were close to closing for the day! <3

South Shore is awesome! Great Dr's and Techs and affordable! I was recently there with one of my Saint Bernards because he was having seizures. Dr. Joe was awesome! Great follow up to help ease my anxiety over what was going on with my dog. Love this clinic!

We LOVE South Shore and Dr. Joe!! So does Olive and Daisy too! We have utilized their expertise for routine checkups, emergent surgery, and unfortunately even end of life euthanasia. They have always been so friendly from the front desk staff all the way through until checkout.

Very thankful for South Shore Vet. My sick and elderly cat needed to be euthanized today and they were able to get us in same day. The staff was so accommodating and kind. The vet was so gentle and explained the process to my children in a really compassionate way. For such a terrible thing we needed to do, they really did make the experience just a little more bearable. Thank you so much for your compassion and kindness. And thank you for being so understanding as two children said goodbye to their first pet.
